Recess will be no more...

Rikimaru_XRikimaru_X Member UncommonPosts: 11,718
I heard from the grape vine that recess in most states will be no more for children. I think thats he worst thing I've ever herd. I was already heartbroken when our county banned (i think) dodgeball. I mean it seems like they want kids to be zombies rather than free their brains from the stress of work so they can keep on track. I wonder who the hell thought this up?

Nah. It would be up to the individual states and I don't see more than 1 or 2 doing it if this rumor is even somewhat true.

Oh I don't mean the whole country, but yeah, just some states. I still don't feel it's right though. Yeah it's true, but I really need to find more proof that things like this are in discussion. Cartoon Network mentioned somthing about it. Comedy Central too I think.

Well let me put this internet to some use.

Even if dodgeball were banned - whatever the case may be - how many cops are going to arrest a child's parents or teachers for the child playing the game or fine them even? I really don't think the cops would even care; it'd be like one of those twilight-zone laws like not putting strawberries on whipped cream or flicking boogers into the wind. I'd laugh if someone actually enforced it. Then I'd cry afterward.

    why is recess being banned?

Recess is being banned because the teachers suck and so they need more time to bore the children to death. What they don't realize is recess is actually a good thing and freshens up the mind and so they will come back with more focus.

Child obesity rates are rising... so lets get rid of recess.

It has nothing to do with obesity. Obesity is a choice. Sorry for you fat folks out there, but I endow any of you to be active human beings, watch your diet, and suddenly become morbidly overweight.

As for dodgeball and recess being banned, what do I care? Children go to school to be taught, not to be entertained.

I'd have been pissed if I went to school one day in first grade and my teacher told us, "I'm sorry kids, recess is over. For good. Never going to happen again." I mean, even if they tell them a month in advance, it'd still piss me off. Little kids are violent as hell, too. Not a group I'd really want to piss off. Well, not when there are like 500 of them. I know that makes me sound like a puss, but I threw a desk at my teacher in first grade because she wouldn't let me go out for recess for two days in a row, even though she had said both days that I'd be able to. Now, if every kid threw their desk... Bah! That'd hurt. I know, I'm an idiot for doing that. I was in first grade, I still believed in all the bullshit I'd been told. I didn't really know right from wrong at the time, what with everything.

Anyway, that would break the kids far too soon. I wouldn't want them all to be useless people when they grow up, but if they do that, they would be. I mean, I could barely cope with the stress even with recesses. I mean, I may occasionally look at life as "Push until you break, and then you die.", but I don't think people should take these kids' futures away from them.

Oh well, 'least they're not making them watch "kids' shows"...

I do not see this happening at any point in the near future.  Do you know how many teachers would protest against this.  Many teachers look forward to those breaks as much as the students.  Both teachers and students need to be able re-focus their attentions during the day.

As someone mentioned already, with child obesity being the new topic of conversations in many heath circles, they would need to replace the physical activity granted (or lost as the case may be) by recess in some other form.  That would mean that teacher would need to schedule time for PE which would cut into the other ciriculum they have to try and fit into their lesson plans.

All this adds up to is one HUGE mess if any state tries to do this.

Lets keep already energetic and hyper kids and keep them inside all day....

       Wow, you're a bastard.

First off, obesity isn't a choice for kids. You eat what your parents get for you. If they take you to McDonalds and stuff, you're going to be fat. And excercise doesn't work for kids. If you've got no friends, you've got nothing to do. Parents rarely, if ever, take their kids to the gym. Even if they do, what kid's already broken down to the point where running on a treadmill would hold their interest? That's assuming the kid's town even has a gym. Mine has some sort of a fitness center, but I hate the people who own it, and it only opened a couple years back. The next town over(where I go to school)has a better one, but that's over 25 miles away and kids don't have a way to get themselves back and forth.

Secondly, if those kids get messed up now, they'll be the ones ruthlessly murdering your generation. Yeah, it's messed up, but does that really matter? No. I know there's no way I can concentrate through an entire day of school, and I'm 16. When I was little it was even worse. Little kids don't have the attention span to put up with all the bullshit they're expected to.

In reality, recess is much more than free time. Recess is an opportunity for students to not only engage in physical activity, but also to learn about and build their character, develop cooperation skills and practice social interaction. Therefore, the teachers and you need to realize that recess is an equally important part of the instructional day.

Nice job coming off as an ass. Maybe you were a social outcast in school but most people actually do learn by playing even if its "unconventional". lrn2research.

Well said Alex. Your absolutely right. I remember in primary school, me and buddies (I wonder what they are up to now) played as the Power Rangers. Taught us a lot. Taught us many of the things you mentioned and more.

I was a Power Rangers fan too lol. I liked the green ranger, but then the white ranger came in and he totally owned. Then they messed up their masks and it looked stupid and so I stopped watching. It was a sad day for America.

Ha ha ha. Yeah Power Rangers was great. I was always stuck being the black ranger . When I became about 15 I noticed how hot the pink ranger was. I only like a hand full of Power Ragners in SPACE, espicall when the Teenage Munant Ninja Turtles was telported from NYC and had to fight the Rangers.

Actully Power Rangers is gaining back it's fame though. Dino Thunder and Ninja Force (Ninja somthing I know) was exelent. In ninja force there was 3 good rangers and 2 bad ones (and I mean bad ass ones). The good ones always got pwnt by the bad ones. Ha ha ha!

There is a new one called SPD but have'nt had the time to watch it.

Well that's my PR run for the day.

Its just when the students get about a 15 minute break during the morning.

Are they shortening the hours that they are at school while getting rid of recess?  I could undestand it if they do that.  A lot of schools try to save money and taking out a whole hour a day or so with no lights on and the AC/Heater not clicking on would probably save a district tons.

But if they're not shortening the day then I wonder what they are adding in recess times place.

I am getting ready to do my student teaching in the Fall.  I have done a lot of obersvation and mentoring and it seems teachers are rushed to get in all the things they have to do each day.  I think a lot of it has to do with discipline problems that are coming into the school from home.  Especially when a teacher spends 90% of their time doing classroom management instead of being able to do what they were trained to do.  If it seems hard to believe that parents aren't disciplining their kids these days or letting them get away with anything then just go do some mentoring or volunteering in your local school district sometime.  It's a real eye-opener.

But I don't see it happening anyway.  Kids have to play.  Really, play time is learn time for kids.

Dont worry, school will only destroy 25% of your time on the Earth, you got 75% left to yourself.

I weep for the younger generation.

My nephew use to watch that, and when I saw Barney on TV when he was younger,  I would spring into action, run and dive in front of the TV as fast as I could, to change the channel.  Then I would distract my nephew with anything possible so he would forget Barney as quickly as possible.
