The Ship of Heroes team has published a new developer blog to let the fan community know that the game engine has been updated to include the Low Level of Detail feature. This will allow the dev team to focus more on content creation rather than having to hand-create low detail models. The new engine provides a tool to generate LOD variations for static images.

I'm excited about this game, I even donated on their website.

Here is a pair of videos if you want to see their progress and listen to the CEO of Heroic Games Corp talk about their plans.

    Part One

    Part Two

I've heard that Valiance and City of Titans are making progress, too, but Ship certainly makes (or gets?) the most updates on MMORPG.com. Too bad they couldn't have all worked together maybe, but it might be good to have different options and see which one works out, maybe more than one -- different strokes for different folks and all that.

Oh sweet, can't wait to play one of these revival like games for City of Heroes/Villians! I didn't get a chance back then to try the original. But still don't like NCSoft for pulling it down when it was clearly not on the verge of failing. :/

Ship of Heroes looks pretty interesting.  And they have a plan to actually get it built.

The CEO certainly sounds like he has a very clear vision and knows what they can and cant do for launch. Thats good to know.

SoH get the most updates on MMORPG.com because they list the most updates.  The one thing they wanted for this project was transparency.  They want people to see the progress they are making, so they know this will get off the ground.

As much as I liked CoH, it was far from perfect.  Having more than one successor is probably a good thing, as each game will cater to a different taste.  Still, if two or three of these projects got together, what could they do?  Realistically, only CoT and SoH could combine quickly and efficiently, because they are both using UE4.  And each team has strengths the other is a bit lacking in.  But these two games are going to end up being quite different in execution, so that would probably be a hurdle that could not be overcome.
