I love video games, and mmorps but I'm pretty sure this game is going to flop just like CoE and SoTA. Don't get me wrong it's a solid idea to purchase a bunch of assets and make a game out of the coolest looking stuff. The problem is, that sort of chaos doesn't usually translate into good games.
Do you have any proof they purchased a bunch of assets? No one has yet to prove that they did. They have said they bought some trees and other minor assets but everything else is original. Can we please stick to facts and not baseless claims.

I understand where you come from, but some skills like the floating + animation of combat, spell casting ect, i doubt the bought that as well, you have some cool flowers moving around as well, looks pretty original, i guess when we can see more of their original ideas coming into life we judge more accurately.
Anyway for now i don't see any proof for your claims, just watch a bit of their combat videos on live streams, the environment and all looks high quality and animation are not bad at all for pre alpha and no way those were ready before....
Maybe they bought some houses models and edited them ect... But that's simply smart, i don't see it as a bad thing.

Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics.

It does seem to have a better shot than most, yet I'll be very surprised if it fully launches* before 2020.

Nah, didn't pledge, i don't have money for such things i only put my money on released games, but i do support the game with my opinion, that's all i got, was just wondering how everyone else are feeling about it with the constant live streams, reviews ect... At first this game seemed like a total scam... Maybe it's just so good i think it's legit as well, luckily I'm a poor f*ag so i can't really get scammed.
On contrast you have the starcitezen videos that are mostly 30 minutes talk about a minor feature that is not even implemented yet, and then some serval minutes going over a new ship concept going on sale.... So i just find it a pleasant change.
    Talk is cheap.
I'm a cheap guy, I'd rather buy a nice dinner for my girl instead of pledging for a game, even if i believe in it, in the end it's just a game.
I pledged for a lifetime subscription, but I still agree with your priorities. Family first.

Spent the day going over all the streams, interviews and articles. I'm really excited. They have interdependency woven in the entire game. From PvE, PvP and crafting. This is a big thing so many modern MMOs have messed up. I'm even more happy I pledged. Another hard wait lol.

My first MMO was LIneage and I was in a bloodpledge (their name for guild) that was called "The Republic of Texas (rotx)". We had a guild icon like your avatar. It reminded me of that game and my old guild when I saw your post.
There is a little bit of Lineage in Ashes. That must have you excited.

I just came back from a vacation in Texas, in some parts that flag flies a little bit higher than the US one does.  (or is the only one displayed)

Here in Florida where I live most of us agree we don't even know what our flag looks like.

It does. It has been something missing from modern pvp centric mmos. I think it's very important for resources and pve to be in pvp mmos where the pvp is about those resources. It's not just gank everyone because that worked against you, but sometimes there is conflict. Sometimes working together and sharing pays off better. If the game can pull that sort of thing off I will be excited.

I just hope that appeals to western gamers. Lineage failed pretty hard here even though it's still wildly successful globally. I think a lot of that had to do with the insane grind, bots, rmt, and NCSofts horrible customer service.

I liked the way L1 was set up, the doubling of experience needed for every level meant most folks were hard pressed to reach 50, much less surpass it.  (made it level 49 on one character)

L2 went off the chain with endless updates and grind, never could get even close to cap think level 55 was about the best I could do.

I hit 50 on a character in Lineage (my mage I think) and died at the same time, leveled, deleveled, and lost stats on the delevel. That was it. I was done. I had several more weeks to work off the xp loss and I just lost all interest.

I went back for the month or so when they shut it down and took the auto level to 65 and a bunch of nice gear and went around and had a great time playing and farming old and new areas.

I looked into private servers but they had screwy setups to get people to cap and into pvp. They lost sight of everything that made the game fun.
I played L1 for about 6 months, losing stats on delevel was a mini game by itself. People would die on purpose to level back up again to get the max possible, but not at 50 of course.

What most annoyed me (and as a fellow mage you'll understand) I rolled my character looking forward to the day I got my bugbears.  This was before the nerf where they tied the number of summoned BB's to your character stats.

So before the change I could easily get 3 or even 4 BB pets from a cast, after the change due to my charisma stat I could only cast two.

Now, if they would have offered a respec I would have surrendered some of the other stats to put enough into Charisma for 3 pets, but they didn't, I was expected to reroll.

As my mage was like level 48 at the time, and had purchased or found a bunch of great spells including a rare invisibility spell book no way was I rerolling, so I left for DAOC.

I've been testing  since about 2003. No game I've ever tested or been a part of (before KS) has ever ended up like the original concept. Some end up good and some bad, but mostly somewhere in the middle. It may end up good. We'll have to see how things shape up over the long haul.
If/when this game launches, I'll check it out.

Thats a fair way to look at it. I think thats how most people feel and I hope to see you at launch. I will say this though. Look at the $25 pledge and the rewards you get and the stretch goal rewards everyone is getting. Plus you get one month free with the $25 pledge. IMO, its worth the risk and if you bump it to $50 you also get beta access. At this point its hard not to chuck a little money at the wall.

As far as i know, you can pledge for as little as 10$, that's hardly a game changer (no pun) for your social life
i spend on my social life, monthly around 20$ each month... thats on a busy month.... so yeah 10$ is a big deal for me..
So what is that, one meal at a restaurant per month? Given the currency exchange.

I'm a cheap guy, I'd rather buy a nice dinner for my girl instead of pledging for a game, even if i believe in it, in the end it's just a game.
The point being, if you truly were a believer you would not hesitate to pledge.  It's not a question of liking the mechanics or the way the game looks.  A true believer would put money down to support the project and KNOW it will get made.   So I would counter that I don't think you are a believer, but rather a hoper. Someone that likes the early game description and HOPES the game releases in 3-5 years.
Also a true-believer , would get the girl to buy him dinner .........:)

It's amazing how people find justifications for spending on games... :D

After years of complaining about the "evil" of pre-orders and raging about the cost of "collector's editions", gamers simply jumped the shark. Now they're spending $400 on lifetime subs for games that don't even exist yet !

    What's next, I wonder ?

The fact that we're even discussing faith or hope in regards to making a financial decision to support an entertainment project is telling.

You aren't spending it on the lifetime sub. You are donating on the hopes of getting a game that you like. No one should pledge to kickstarter if they aren't prepared to get nothing for their money. Not sure why people don't get this. If you are having to "justify your spending" then you probably shouldn't do it. I make plenty of money so I made the donation in the hopes they create the game that I want.

Also jumped the shark doesn't mean what you think it means.
