Remember, there is always someone better than you and you can't be King of the Mountain forever. Theres always that certain one that will get to you and knock you down.
Whether it be Warhammer or another mmorpg, WoW had it days, wait till the new kid in town arrives.
Space Invaders was a milestone game, then came Pac Man, so much for Space in Vaders who?
    or how about
Street Fighter was a milestone game, then came Mortal Kombat and so on..

Ill say never..........its ludicrous to even think it can haul away 5 million of WOW's 6 million customers. Want to put money on it...........Id put my house on it . Ill evne go as far to say it wont crack 1 million active subs at any given time. Now anything even close to 1 million is still highly succesful though. Like I said , this game will be hot.........but it isnt going to be life alterign in the life of mmorpgs.

Bama.. your missing my point.. So what your saying, there will NEVER be another MMORPG like World of Warcraft to draw as many customers as World of Warcraft did?

A Lifetime is a long time, but I dig your opinion, WoW wont be the last MMORPG to reach 5 million subscribers though, I will gurantee that.

As I stated, if it is'nt Warhammer, it may be something else. World of Warcraft can only last for so long till its outdated and replaced by something much superior.

For all I know, the next super hit MMORPG might be called Monkey Balls, but who knows..

Oh most definately, I agree with that point. I just believe it isnt now or soon. One day.....but I believe that one day is a little further off than most would like to see.

Hell.. if Blizzard made the next Star Wars MMORPG, they'd easily hit 5 mil.

It's all about QUALITY. No other game even comes close to WoW.

Wow is good, but Blizzard needs some lessons on how to keep there hardware stable, or they need to dig into the pocketbook a little more.

Which is very huge now! For WoW to keep its customer base, it better

start changing things real quick! There is a crap load of MMORPGs due

    out this year.

If a Company wants to keep things fresh, it should at least release a

expansion once a year. This will keep fans happy. Wow is no different

since its debut. (Maybe in some aspects, but nothing crucial).

As a matter of fact, make it 2 expansions a year. 1 would be free and

charge for the other one. (So everyones happy)

Summer Expansion Free .. Winter Expansion $29.95

Didn't Lineage 2 hit like 6-7 million subscribers too?

Anyway yeah WAR looks awesome but I don't think it will be as succesful as WoW is.The only thing that worries me about WAR ist that everyone will be part of chaos >.<.

Yeah.. but most of that is in Asia. Not knocking Lineage 2, I give them a lot of credit.. but it was only the successor to the biggest MMORPG EVER at the time. They were doing CRAZY numbers in Asia where most US players never heard of it.

When I said that, I was mainly talking US/EU.

Yep. Total subscribers at once and grand total is still Lineage 1. lineage 2 is fairly close behind and still over WoW at 4 or 5th now. WoW is massive in the english speaking world, but that isn't the largest part of the gaming world.

If you really want to see a lot of that info get yourself certified in C# or lower level language and register for the various dev news. The numbers for various engines using any given code setup are highly advertised within various news letters.

I dont think Lineage or Lineage 2 ever hit 6 to 7 million subscribers, If they did it was totall and not active. The most active subscribers either of those games ever had was 2.5 million. Wow claims to have over 6 milliuon active subscribers now!

Thats what people dont get........besides these 2 highly popular games.......no one is even close active sub wise. Pretty much every other mmorpg is stuck around 750k or less.

Lineage didn't always have a subscription, it was play per time play on your phone bill. Total accounts and players is still Lineage. Currently WoW is bigger, but it wasn't always.

And WoW isn't 6-7million subscribers it is 6-7million characters on the servers, and old characters stay unless you erase them or the account is suspended.

hilarious. Where people get this stuff i do not know?

    linkage: http://www.blizzard.com/press/060228.shtml

    Small snippet

"World of Warcraft's European customer base is currently at more than 1 million players, with the worldwide total now at more than 6 million players."

    "World of Warcraft's Customer Definition
World of Warcraft customers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or purchased a prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the installation box bundled with one free month access. Internet Game Room players that have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as customers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired pre-paid cards. Customers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.

    "

    note: players, not characters.

If they would be counting the characters, it means WoW has like 600k of players.

    Get Your Facts Straight.

    And have a nice day.

ROFL....some people just never quit. It is 6 million active subs....not characters. Some of you people hidden in a closet need to realize the truth on how BIG WOW really is. They arent reporting false numbers just for fun and the hell of it.

.....and NO, Lineage nor Lineage 2 ever hit 6 million paying or non customers at the same time. 2.5 million is the best for each :)

Which to be fair, is still might impressive. 5 times EQ2 and 1000 times current SWG. A dominant #2 behind WoW.

Most definately, highly impressive. And what I said before that most should realize.......... no other game is even remotely close to these guys.

World of warcraft is a game for hardcore PvE achivers and if you mean a successor that will take PvE achivement beyond then I think you'll have to look 5 years into the future.
  • mrbbmanmrbbman Member Posts: 282

Well I am not sure if it will be a complete successor to WoW, but Mythic pulls off RvR very nicely in DAOC. If they are able to add as much fun in PvP in this game you may see the PvPers in WoW playing this game. I was kind of hoping that the game was going to be based on Warhammer 40k. Then, not only would it be Sci-Fi, but it would seperate itself from WoW in a distinct manner. Most people leave a game because they are looking for something different, not the same type of thing. Plus, I like the storyline in 40k, especially the one behind my Necron army. :) However, this game will probably be successful if it is put together well. But, I don't see it gathering more subs than WoW just yet.

I think you're right on the money. The competeition between warhammer online and world of warcraft is probably going to look a lot like the old competition between daoc and everquest. Warhammer online/daoc attracts pvp/rvr players while world of warcraft/everquest attracts pve players and back in the day everquest had more subscripers than daoc.

The fact is DaoC has the best PvP system ever created for a MMORPG. It's too bad the combat is boring and out of date, and the animations are out of date as well.

This is going to be the successor to WoW if you are a fan of pvp over pve. Although I won't rule out the Warhammer pve yet, it does sound much more interesting than any pve to date, but i'm just wondering how much of it there will be? The good thing about the pve it is tied in with the pvp and the quests you perform affect the war. Sounds very cool.

  • mrbbmanmrbbman Member Posts: 282

Having PvE quests affect the war may draw in a few people that like to PvE. I certainly adds a reason to PvE seeing as it helps your side. In the end though, it is probably going to boil down to PvP. At least if the endgame ends up like DAOC's did. Yeah sure there was a dragon to kill and some other cool stuff, but the main reason to get your character to 50 was to hold your ground in PvP.

It is a shame that DAOC's graphics and combat are out of date. I had a lot of fun playing that game. The same goes for UO, the skill system was awesome. I guess I'm shallow but I need purdy piktures to keep me entertained. Otherwise I may have never left either of these games for their more modern counterparts.

I am hoping that Mythic's system for DAOC will be directly transplanted into this game. Of course you would have to make a few minor tweaks to compensate for the new situations. This could be done easily since they hold the patents to their own code last time I checked.

It looks like alot of people are greatly anticipating the release of this game. I would have to agree, it looks like it is worth a try.

I've been playing WOW since SWG died.  I've been reading up on Warhammer.  Devs who think it would be cool to allow players to hang the heads of their slain off their armor get my vote.  At least for a try. lol
