DBG could make a lot of money if they chose to upgrade EQ with todays graphics.

No, at least not yet. Too few people own VR gear yet and the gear still need another generation to have enough player potential.

Remakes, HD versions and sequels is another matter... Plenty of them around.

Unless some game comes out that becomes a social phenom where people use that game to buy VR gear...

I could Bard kite and be 50 in a week but my wife and I are playing teamed enjoying the social side of the game. Also we dont want to skip allot of content, like Guk and the likes. I love slow progression games, making friends. If I wanted to be level 50 in a week, I would play a game like WoW, AA or Trove. Where is dumbed down for that.

The only way I've been able to go back to old games is sometimes when they have a new class and new zones.   Also, they have to have a short learning curve in which I don't have to start from scratch trying to remember exactly how to manage multiple currencies, xp leveling mechanics, nerfed and buffed skills, dead add-ons...

Reminds me of a random tell conversation (text of course) over the weekend on the freeshard where a DPS class tried to convince me to group up and heal for him.

I had to politely decline several times explaining my spec did not offer the benefits he was looking for.

He wanted a healing, buffing damage sponge which a group spec Druid would provide, while my spec made me a kiting, dotting dpser.

He tried to close with argument that my spec was slower than grouping but even so l could still level faster with him.

Doubtful, but as I explained, I wasn't interested in leveling faster as once l got to 50 l would likely just start all over again.

I'm not racing to get anywhere actually, just trying to find the right class and build that is both useful in RVR and I will enjoy playing long term (I so miss my Skald)

Just not there yet and am in no hurry.

Will be flipping the Druid to group spec and begin performing the traditional duties at lvl 40 as I enjoy healing but prefer to not be too group dependent until the final 10 levels.

I don't think so. I think if people were no longer given the excuse of graphics to not go back to older games they would quickly remember all the other things they didn't like about those games that the nostalgia erased from their memory.

That was my experience when I tried Rise of Agon at least. I played it for like 30 minutes before remembering many of the reasons I got tired of Darkfall the first time, and deciding I wanted none of it.

While neither Pantheon nor EQ1 are my cup of tea, I'm guessing Pantheon is more on track to be what EQ1 players want from a game in 2017 than an EQ1 reboot would be.

I went back and played Everquest 2 and even Dark Age of Camelot recently and it was a great experience to go back and play these games again. Unfortunately without the friends I once played with the desire to continue to log on and play rapidly diminished with no hope of rekindling that which made me stay and play them originally.
This was the same for me too. It just made me miss the friends i had back then. I don't seem to get along well with this generation of mmo players.

Personally, I prefer the new games.  I mean, Meridian and Everquest were great in their day and while I never got to like Meridian I loved EQ with a passion, but when EQ went free to play I was quite shocked at how crap it was.  I played it for quite a few years back in the day, but it just seemed so antiquated and clunky by today's standards!  it was a chore to play, frankly, which quite shocked me.  I vowed never again to go back to the old games I played...

Not the really old games. Marvel Heroes & Planetside 2 are fine .. though they are showing a bit of their age.

Destiny 2 probably will be fun (and nice to look at).

Is there anyone like me who likes games of the past and cannot understand why people keep buying the new games?

For instance I would play Meridian 59. I like the thought of Ragnarok Online and would like to try the original Lineage, and games like Asheron's Call which I missed. I thought Lineage 2 and its kind--Shaiya, 2Moons, Rappelz, ArchLord--had achieved something pretty and special in the 2000s.

I miss EQ (including my time spent on EQ Sullon Zek PvP server), Asheron's Call Darktide which was really a truly unique FFA PvP experience, and DAOC still to this day the best RvR game ever created in my opinion.

With that said, while I miss these games, I know I wouldn't be able to play them the same way like I used to.  The time investment was huge, and these 3 games I mentioned was all about who had the most amount of time to spend in the game.  The amount of time spent directly = advantages over others.  I'm not sure if I'd enjoy that style today.  They were fun when I was a teenager/early adult, but now I don't think I can commit to it.

I also don't miss the old engine and clunky combat animation/graphics.  I would totally love to see a relaunch of all 3 of these games with a modern engine, UI, graphics, and features.  But we all know that's not going to happen, Turbine let Asheron's Call franchise die, EQ bought out by a company that won't be investing money into a new EQ, and DAOC/Mythic is no longer.

Only thing we have to look forward to is Pantheon, which pretty much is modeled after EQ and its niche is the old school fanbase.  Camelot Unchained, being created by Mark Jacobs, a bit ambitious and long in development so hard to say how it'll turn out.  Asheron's Call is the only one that'll never make a comeback in any form, which is really sad.  It was always the more unique game out of the early MMO's, it gave us early action combat & active dodging, a vibrant FFA PvP system with loot, and an endless world with little zoning.

    Played: EQ1-AC1-DAOC-FFXI-L2-EQ2-WoW-LOTR-VG-WAR-GW2-ESO-BDO
Waiting For: CU & Vanilla WoW
