Remember when the original came out in like 2004? Everyone was saying how it was the next coming on this site... then it released was had the biggest backlash because it sucked!

Is this still an MMO or is it one of those SudoMMOs?

The game would get a better reception if they had released the game at a later stage in development. Better reception would mean more copies sold because the typical early access sandbox see biggest sale during the first week of early access release and not the regular release.

Early access isn't a get out of jail free card like some people believe it is. Stop blaming gamers when the real issue are developers/publishers that look for quick cash more than they wish to deliver a proper experience.

As for the people that you deem shouldn't play early access games, they already got a refund. told their friends about how bad the experience was and that's money the developers will never see because the publisher decided to rush the early access release.

this game will be a huge flop , was watching the live stream , its awful

The game is somewhat playable now on my old GTX 680. Singleplayer does tank your performance by a huge amount. I can now play it decently at 35-40fps with a mix of medium/high settings. With the DX10/SM4 command i get 50-60fps with no issues. But yea the game will look ugly but playable at least.
Citadel on the other hand, it runs amazing! high/epic settings i get 40-50fps and it looks gorgeous too.

This should've been an MMO and it needs more time in the oven. I'd still probably buy it when it's more fleshed out but, i'm still disappointed in their decision to make it a survival game.

Yeah I was waiting for a few reviews before considering jumping in, but this was my fear. I still have yet to buy and play a survival game, despite it being the new trend. Came real close to getting Conan, but it seemed to go nowhere. I think it could be done right, but they all seem like easy cash grabs that stay in "early access" forever.

Finish games before releasing them please !! Early Access should mean, game is ready to play without so many dam bugs.

While I agree they should finish games before launching but early access generally means playable, but do expect bugs and performance issues.

You are describing something more akin to closed or even open beta.

Wait, I thought "early access" was the time before release, that time people often pre-order games to get.

Open Beta is before that, and closed beta even earlier.

Citadel: Forged with Fire is just a better game. Hands down. The graphics, netcode, harvesting, crafting, and combat are all much more polished than DnL at this time. The building in CFWF leaves a little to be desired...but it is still better than DnL. I think, over time, DnL might evolve into something more than CFWF...the potential is definitely there...but as of right now, DnL is entirely unplayable. As a matter of fact, it downright sucks. Anyone who is interested in this type of game should really take a look at Citadel Forged with Fire, the free play weekend just ended and it goes into early access on the 26th.

No it doesn't. Early Access means you are most definitely about to play a buggy version, filled with unfinished business. This is just a normal (nowadays) business practice to allow income while they work on the game. So basically, you pay for an unfinished game and that's on you lol.

Blame the consumers for this mate because free money is free money

I don't mind playing Early Access games. I know they are buggy and things will be missing/broken...but it is not really all that crazy to think that a game in Early Access will at least be playable. Putting this game into Early Access and accepting money for it while knowing full well it was entirely unplayable is an insult to the consumer. Steam really needs to moderate these releases and hold developers to some sort of minimal standard. Like, "Can the players log into the game? No? Well, come back when the players can log in." Apple does this to all the apps on the app store, so the idea is not unprecedented.

When I think "early access" I think step above Alpha or end of Alpha possibly early beta. Or basically it's playable, there are bugs, not all the features are in.

So, with that in mind I think I'm pretty spot on as the few early access games I've played have been that.

What I do think is that gamers don't know what they are getting themselves into. So yeah, I blame them. They set their sights wayyyy higher than they should and based on what? You say it should be in a later stage of development. why? No really, why? Because it just sounds like opinion.

This is the way it "should" be. well that's not life. So if early access games continually manifest as playable, with bugs and not all features in why not just take it at face value and understand "that's exactly what they are"?

Case in point that's not how they sell it:

"Get instant access and start playing; get involved with this game as it develops.

Note: This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development."

I take this at face value. It's exactly what you get. A "not complete" game that might change further down the line.

Ive already logged in 30+ hours and not finding a shortage of anything to do . minor bugs , nothing game breaking
the nodes weren't reproducing after patch so you had to death clone and all returned to normal . this is ea , one of the better ones and as long as snail sticks to it , itll be a great game . its already better the exiles out of the box , and citadel was lacking in numerous areas so I'm not sure what you all want from an ea title . your either off put by snail themselves or just cant get passed comparing it to ark

In the old days you tried to do a limited release on alpha products and you kept it limited because the product wasn't ready for the big crowds. Today early access games are marketed the same way as a regular game and thrown out to everyone because publishers can get paid quickly.

Its developers/publishers decision to market it for everyone and when these games gets thrashed by a huge amount of people its because they marketed it too early to the huge crowds. That's a decision that developers/publishers took.

Additionally if you look at their store page they speak of the game having been in development for a few years and the game being a year away from completion. Its only after buying that you are told that the game is only 30% done which means that what they said on the store page was bullshit.

As for the way it should be, if you market shit and sell it for $30 and people hate your shit people should still be allowed to thrash it in a review. The real problem is the product and how it was marketed and not the people that bought and refunded it. Its the customer fault if they waivered their right for a refund.

Except that's not what's happening. They are marketing it as an unfinished game and people are evaluating it against the idea of a finished game.

Because if they actually marketed as "shit" and people didn't like the "shit" then I would say fine. But they are marketing it as "shit" and people are complaining that it's not a hamburger.

As far as the old days go, we aren't there anymore.

I guess I am the only one that liked DnL! I thoroughly overjoyed myself on Sunday on a PvPvE server - they did patch a few times this weekend, so maybe that's why my experience was smoother. I didn't encounter any major issues - lag seemed minimal (played on a server that was pretty much always 40/40). I had no crashes, no glitches, loading took about 45 seconds, so not sure where the 5-10 minutes came from! I played on all Epic settings, except shadows I put at High. I had no berries from sheep, only hide, bone, and meat. The skill system is really awesome as I love not having to choose a path based on limited skill points... just using skills to level them was awesome. Music and atmosphere were great. I love the meteorites that drop items and enemies.

I also played Citadel and thought there was a lot of potential there. That game definitely felt much more Early Access than DnL though. You can easily troll people and take their kingdoms (brought me back to the days of Reign of Kings a bit). Melee is pointless currently. The wand is OK, but sucks in PvP. The staff is the only good choice for weapon path currently. Their building system is really bad, flying is pretty sweet and there is a lot of mana management. Overall, I liked it and felt it was different enough I likely will get it after a few patches.

I personally would recommend checking out both DnL and Citadel!
