RF Online: Banning Movie

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

Every now and again, a game releases information about a spree of bannings. RF Online has banned over 150 people for cheating. Not only that, but they made a movie about it! Next, they're setting their sights on people who have used RMT sites.

Dear fellow players,

a wave hit Novus today, spreading blood all over the planet. A week long investigation finally came to the point where i could reveal a specially hidden gift towards my good friends.

Xie Xie, for the time we spent together - good that it was so short.

When you read this message, more than 150 people are cursing at us, expressing their feelings when retuning to their bot running pcs to find their accounts banned.

In the next few days, following the 150 RMT accounts, we will be visiting YOU, atleast if You bought things from RMT traders. If You had to re-read the last sentence twice you might want to contact us via PM before we reach you. If you reveal the delivery guy, the price you paid including the RMT site and the date you recieved the money we can most likely work something out.

Yes, its easter - so you might want to get a little extra, atleast Ulric and myself thought so.

GM Ulric and GM Terablo after returning from the Ether Pub got into a bit of an argument

GM Ulric: My mau is sooo pimp, much pimper than your ride
GM Terablo: Hell no... my bmau is da bomb!!
GM Ulric, well guess what, my bmau is geting pimped out with a new gold plated bodykit with Alloy Joints
GM Terablo: no way, where wil you get enough gold for that??
GM Ulric, i found this cool group that wil sell me all the gold i need for only $300
GM Terablo : Cool, can i meet them
GM Ulric: Sure grab your bmau and lets go

... a few minutes later ...

(right click and save link as)

I would like to thank Ulric for his ideas regarding the musical background, his lyrics and the story board.

In the making of this movie no players where hurt - atleast none with active accounts.

Yours,
GM Terablo

That is very wrong for the GMs! Those banned should have their privacy.

I see this as a wrong doing in not only the GMs fault, but the company for
    making the video.

Even though I do not play RF Online, it is still wrong.

Good Job GMs.... (BTW if you ever did that to me...Luckily, I do not bot and I do not play RF Online... Or do I? . Just kidding..).

Seriously though, that movie was innappropiate as those banned should have their privacy, so what if they were caught botting. Banning them is what must be done. Ridiculing them is just wrong.

I agree with you in that they should have their privacy.

This is kinda funny ^.^ when you see how much RMT's can ruin games.

However, there is the legal side of it. If the above are actually acting on behalf of RF Online then they are breaking thier own privacy policy.

Microsoft was sued for something like this ( around 40mil ) and Square Enix had a GM who did something simliar to a player and SE ended up contacting the user and back tracking like mad. They even had Sony Entertainment fire the GM that was responsible.

It's all nice and all ^^ but if you want to get really technical. There's harassment, invasion of privacy, risking users identity ( no the In game name, but lets say someone goes to "hack" their account from seeing their name on that video. They can be privy to personal information.. not only name, address, but maybe even credit card information )

    Careful Careful ^^

It completely depends on what their ToS states. Also, how would knowing
a character's name possibly help hack an account? If that were the
case, you could simply play the game, or even look at a screenshot, and
    get many names of players.

Not to mention, you know, the whole point is that their accounts are banned. Hacking a banned account wouldn't do you any good.

This is exactly what the MMO industry needs.

Cheaters should have no quarter provided to them in any way shape or form. By breaching the terms of service willingly, they forfeit their rights to privacy, their right to contest any charges against them, and any sort of "fair" treatment in my eyes.

Not only do I support the GM's, I wish I could help them. Personally, game companies should start hiring in-game bounty-hunters, made with the sole purpose of executing those who cheat/bot/engage in RMT trade. As for the people who say "you can't prove it". Come on, every game that's ever been made, there are always a select few people who you absolutely know are botting/cheating/hacking/RMTing, etc.

Kudos to those at the Codemasters crew. Maybe you'll send a message to the cheaters, and an example for other companies to follow.

Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...

Hi Guys, myself and GM Terablo accept full responsibility for this video, and have no qualms about it t all

All Accounts were banned after intense investigations, and their participation in the video was the mostprodctive thing they ever did for rf online

for those of  you interestd in the legality of displaying the characters in a video

The problem here is that they broke a number of privacy laws and articles of laws by exposing the banned players and then acknowledging that they were GM's in the process. While yes EULA's/ToS are enforceable in a court of law, the exception is when another law overrules the EULA/ToS such as an existing privacy law. EULA's/ToS's are a binding agreement subject to the same rugulations as a contract. If say for example I put some fine print in a contract that stated that the signatory on the contract was my indentured slave, it would never hold up in court due to the anti-slave laws that are in effect. I'd say unless Codemasters does something and does something swiftly that they could definitely have a lawsuit on their hands. This sort of behaviour is a big no no.

*applauds* Wonderful work by the GMs, and doing it in such a funny way. I did not enjoy the game, but those responsible for that game should have huge credits!

Oh and for the farmers and botters in this thread.. Hopefully that was a sign of your future in games. Have fun...

And take your legal stupidity out of here, joker... YOUR privacy is untouched, as any 8 year old can see. YOUR privacy has nothing to do with a character in a game that you have named from imagination....

However my first concern is for the legitimate players of rf online and i will do all in my power to ensure their gaming experience isnt ruined by RMT companies

Great jobs Ulric and Terablo, if only more MMOs would take the proactive approach when it comes to dealing with bots like this.

    Cheers

I actually found it kinda pathetic that these two GMs have nothing better to do than use their powered up characters to kill players, whether they're farmers or not.

I started to care, but then I realized it was RF Online. Then, like many other people I imagine, I just didn't care at all. The same way I found the game boring and mediocre.

Of course, I always find it really funny when game employees try to take pot shots and far more successful games. Like they're somehow better even though their competition makes them insignifigant by comparison.

Then of course there's the way the GMs were making fun of the way these people speak. Good job bringing racism to your game.

Movies like this only make the company look bad and ppl thinking that if this is a serious game company have serious employees. Other games ban bots users, too. But they dont make fun of it nor joking about it.  If I was playing RF online, I would quit now.

I find it pathetic for all the people on this thread criticing these GMs and the movie.  bot farms ruin these games, they force prices for items to go way up.  everquest 2 and lineage 2 all have this problem.  if GMs like these dont control botters on mmos, they will completely ruin the game for players who enjoy playing illegitmately.

seriously, these GMs aren't going after the players who are paying $15 a month to have a good time on their game.  no they are going after the money farmers that will do nothing but make a quick buck in RL, mean while ruining the game.  i doubt RF online would see a grove of people leaving their game, they might actually get more business.

time out for blurr here.  calling this racist is just not right.  there is no way to know what these people's race is.  if you are assuming that farm bots are mostly asian, you might be correct.  however, there are way more asian players who will play with out resorting to money farming.  even if these bot farmers were white they would still be kicked off.

Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online

    Couple of things:

    1) This video sure does make the game look completely crap - no way I'm going to try it now haha.
    2) What exactly is the movie suppose to prove? How do we know they were farmers, sellers etc? They're just dudes standing there.

    3) But if they're botters and farmers, who gives a phuque! They're botters or farmers? Fu*k off and die botter. Etc etc.

For these who complain about privacy or anything like that.

Think mmorpgs as private party. You are welcome there, but its not your house and you dont have right to say no if party owner (mmorpg company) decide to video tape when you are being an ass. GMs are like bouncers who remove any trouple maker-

I agree that making video of that is bit immature as GMs are supposed to be professionals, but maybe this video will work for them and drop farming/ebay. dunno...

I would like to hear more about evidences these GMs have that these players were buying stuff from ebay. Hope it wasnt just some logs of some transactions as ebayers can make transaction to random players to make it look like they bought stuff, resulting ban of innocent later. Thats one of the reasons why most mmorpg are banning primary the sellers.

I don't see any concerns of invasive privacy, it's only their characters names. This is no way identifies anything about the individuals or groups using the account.

I played RF online for the first month. The game is so-so, it has alot going for it in the core of the game. I left with a good experience. But this just assures me I was right for leaving...

My main concern was who is running the game. Codemasters did not make this game. They license it out from a Korean developer CCR. Who in their right mind would let GM's make an official(?) (looking) video like this? This reflects the company as a whole. "Go back to WOW"? ... I don't know what to say about that comment. The words "moron" and "should have been an abortion" would be somewhere in there though.

Any intelligent individual looking for a new game will not consider RFO after watching this video. Unless they also have the same mentality as the GM's themselves. I hope these two lose their positions fast. To show such immaturity with a GM tag is ridiculous.

ps: I'm half/half on selling items for real money. I respect companies that want to get rid of them, and I'm glad to see they're doing their part. Some of those farmers were horrible to real players and I'm glad they're gone.

  • XenduliXenduli Member Posts: 654

These guys rock! 100% applaud them, if you got a problem with their actions then you are not really a true mmorpg player. More needs to be done. I hope these 2 get promoted!

BTW These guys spent 2 months in their free time going through account logs so none of these "oh they were innocent players" crap.
