    privacy??

The people you see in this movie where the pain in the ass for all of their server ruin the market and constantly harassing their fellow race.

They got their privacy, when they start their new farming company they will have to create new characters.

The GMs sent these RMT farmers (suspected after weeks of investigation) to some kind of prison where they can't escape. When the farmers log-in they'll be here, and the GMs will "greet" them right before the final ban.

    I don't agree.

First, you can't really ridicule someone who's faceless and anonymous on the internet. Second, if your fun in life sums up in ruining some other people's fun or that you can't find a real job and need to come leeching some other people's back for a buck, then you deserve to be ridiculed and even worst IMHO.

That being said, the idea of a video wasn't bad, I just think, here, that it was poorely executed and not fun to watch.

Being banned is what they got for not respecting other player's rights. THe movie is funny, buy the publicity stunt after is kinda questionable as being a smart thing to do. Unless they have absolute proof they were selling currency then it could back fire on them. I doubt it will, but it probably wasn't the best bussiness decision ever made to not block out the names of the people being banned.

They could have still put the video out there, just without names is all.

Its funny how many farmers and Ebay sellers come in here and try to sound all righteous and upset at this "breach of etiquette" and, in their imaginaiton "Violent crime"

yeah, we really feel sorry for you game destoryers and expoiters who can't have a real honest job. Really, we do...

    Look... tears...

I'm all for the banning of gold farmers and such, but I mean come on. You really think this will have ANY effect on the number of gold farmers in the game? How long do you think it takes them to start making money vs. how long it takes the GMs to catch them? I have no doubt that they've probably already made 10x more money than it cost them for the $15/mth fee to play it, before they were banned. All they gotta do is make a new account and keep going.

What's sad is these GMs who, rather than helping people, decided to waste time in a childish act trying to pretend they're some big deal. RF Online isn't that great of a game, and this is just adding more bad publicity to the game.

Then you have these sad childish GMs that are making fun of  the way these people talk. That definately flags racism to me. If I can't speak english well, I don't want to get help from a GM that's just going to make fun of the way I talk. Those are BAD GMs and if they were working for me they'd be fired, no questions asked. Simply for the fact that in my eyes, they are giving a bad name to all RFO GMs. People like that shouldn't be allowed to be GMs. GMs are supposed to HELP people, not make stupid videos and make fun of people's speech. Bad form, seriously.

I know I personally will be sending a letter to Codemasters about the video, though I don't expect anything to happen with it because frankly I get the feeling that Codemasters doesn't really know what it's doing.

OUTSTANDING!!!  A model for all ethical mmo companies to follow.

I have zero sympathy for cheaters, um let me rephrase that: I have less than zero sympathy for cheaters.  They deserve everything they got.

    Thanks, mmorpg.com for publicizing it.

Lol, your right. Those farmers easily can get another account and start up again in a matter of minutes.

Also, instead of making this movie, those GMs could have banned a few more.

I have no problem with them revealing names and I like to see Hackers and cheater squirm, afterall they are ruining something I am paying monthly for. Still, this video was crap. It seemed to me those GMs were between 14-17 maybe?

Ironic that mmorpg.com promotes these farmers/ebayers.

I can understand why the game dev's made an example out of that guy in the movie they released. They pretty much followed on the coat tails of what was happening over at "Roma-Victor" with the griefer cruxification.

However the EULA / TOS gets trumped by the country of origin where those banned players are located. So if your in China, Korea, or especially the US the banned player depicted can open up a can of worms. On a harressment charge, let alone anything to do with privacy. Even if the banned player depicted in the game developer endorsed video mocking him broke the EULA. That gives zero right for the game developer / publisher to break their contract based on discrimination. Aka those clauses about hate speech or actions that get you in legalese. It's enacting a double standard.

Did the banned deservse such treatment, probably so. But that doesn't mean you should dehumanize them like that especially if it turns out they're innocent later on. This is a slippery slope especially for the biz suits, of course not for the gamers.

    Dear Mr Lawyer

I was displeased most today about being killed by two giant robots after gold farming all day long and selling it on eBay. Could you please sue these two giant robots from the Novus Planet.

Mr Lawyer?! Sir? Hey where did he go?

They weren't innocent it was proven and the video is a small snapshot of the 150 accounts that were banned. If it was up to me the buyers will be equally humilated. That would be a good way to stop future buyers if they thought that their Avatar names will be spotlighted very publicly.

    No annoying animated GIF here!

Most MMORPG's have these banning sprees. most however just make a announcement here and on the games official site. Banning cheaters is cool however the movie bit seemed like it was to impress those of a junior high school mentality. What was the purpose, other than to try and say "look at us, arn't we cool" ?

Oh and for the farmers and botters in this thread.. Hopefully that was a sign of your future in games. Have fun...
And take your legal stupidity out of here, joker... YOUR privacy is untouched, as any 8 year old can see. YOUR privacy has nothing to do with a character in a game that you have named from imagination....

I agree I think its great the GM's did ban these fellows for what are clearly unethical actions. However the case may be, and agree with it or not, that is the law, and these GM's just broke it. You or anyone else can claim that their privacy is untouched as much as you like, but thats not how the courts see it. If you think I'm wrong find a lawyer that deals in internet libel. There are alot more of those about these days thanks to the fact that by and large the internet goes relatively unmoderated. They will tell you the very same thing that I just did.
