I keep seeing videos of this game and reminisce about the stellar graphics and fluid action combat...so i update the game. And then after a few hours getting my bearings in the game again. The shiny finish starts to fade away as the grind rears its ugly head.

Perhaps the fact none of my small group of gaming friends plays has a hand in my inability to play this. But the cash-shop gouging on a b2p title and other issues also were the main reason i turned away from this title. If someone that plays this consistently could waylay or confirm anything about the state of the game compared to release. I'd appreciate it.

The game is certainly for a specific audience, still very much enjoying it, but this looks a bit underwhelming.

LOL at "there is no level requirement, but the team recommends higher levels and group play"

So yeah just like Mediah and Valencua, there is a level req.

IMO they are about 6 weeks late with this expansion - glad to see part 1 is here. Hopefully they dont drag part 2 by another 3 months.

Also now that Kama is coming out, Mystic please?
The official word is "Mystic in December". Kama between now and Mystic's release. So most people speculate that Kama part two will be for October or November. The no level requirement is a bit silly, yeah. I mean... technically you could waltz in there on a level 10 character and look around... but... you won't be fighting anything. :P

Here's my BDO experience, paid 10$ for it and another 10$ for the wife. Leveled a witch to 56. Paid 70$ for outfits for my wife and I. Afk leveled horses until I could breed them. Got two t6 horses and was bored of that so I go level to 57 at sausans. This is a small area where it's the most efficient way to level/make money. Realized the pvp gear disparity for those who pay real money FOR A CHANCE to advance their gear had massively more power than anyone hitting level 57 traditionally(free) could have. Meaning that this pvp centered endgame is incredibly unbalanced and you can pay to advance your gear progression faster making it literally pay to win. I realized that all this RNG sucks, I realized that the endgame sucks, and that it's killing my PC to keep this game running 24/7 which they heavily encourage. So I quit after only about 40 days playing or so. Extremely regretted the outfit purchase. Purchased the Gw2 expansion and am happy to be playing a game where the devs respect your time and money for the most part.

I play since day one and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. The game has been continuously improved over the last year and a half, but what I think you have a problem with is structuring your gameplay by yourself. You need to take into account that this game aims to allow for a Second Life-ish-role-playing-world, while being a management sim, on top of being an MMO, and on top of that being a fully-fledged action game... The amount of mechanics implemented in BDO borders on a total clusterfuck, but if you just explore at your own pace and actually pay attention to how the whole thing comes together it will at a certain point make perfect sense. The grind is purely optional and you only need to do it if you want to compete at the highest levels of guild PvP, or stick strictly to the PvP server.
Sure - it's always better to play with friends, but at this point there are so many players that I'm certain you'll find a like-minded guild in no time ;)

^Pretty much that. If you're the type of player that expects to be competitive on the highest PvP tiers in two weeks or such, this is most definitely not the game for you. The RNG and grind are much too brutal for that.

Now if you're the type to enjoy a beautiful, detailed world - with lots of hidden places to explore, and you enjoy a wide variety of things rather than just PvP, you should definitely have a good time on BDO. It has a lot of complex systems, including the crafting (life skills).

If they just opened the game up to more people, they could get a lot more players. Instead they are just going to add more grind on the top of the already brutal grind... Here's an idea, add features that don't suck (savage rift) and reduce the grind, maybe make it more fun to acquire items than server hopping for stupid world bosses or bidding AH hell.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

I'm personally very excited. Though I don't understand complaints about grind, but I guess I'm one of the "few" who like to grind WITHOUT doing quests...which are also a grind?

Every MMO has a grind. EVE you grind for ISK. WoW you grind endless quests, dungeons, raids or co-op PvP arenas/battlegrounds. GW2 has a grind to level to endgame to see the expansion zones, and then you grind for resources for special items and abilities. Most MMOs you either grind levels or skills.

Maybe people like grinding when quests are attached, but I find that way more boring. But guess everyone is different. I personally enjoy staying in one spot and slashing and hacking away at mobs, find it really relaxing.

In any case...very excited for the patch to come out. It'll also be bound to come with free gifts, since almost everything they do gives you free goodies :P Which is actually pretty awesome and not many people say anything about all the free gifts they hand out pretty often.

RNG Is still there...grind is still there...cap is soon @60 so it will help. They are rewarding players for playing daily. I play daily for 1 year...some crap afk or sometimes active. There are some things worth the trouble, like 200%/1h grind daily, some trading/fishing, etc.

Its still the greatest mmo we can play this days. PS: PvP without karma loss channel is one of the best things ever.

I just enjoy the game on my own terms. Was grinding over the weekend (which I enjoy) and then decided to head out into the desert, so beautiful there.

I had never been to the mine that is north east of Valencia so went there, explored a bit, "fought some monsters" and headed back and set up for fishing.

Too much work to be competitive in this game but I can find a lot of enjoyment in the world. I buy my gear so don't worry about enchanting.

I'm all for quests if they are good but I don't like it when quests become a relay race. They just send you to kill 3 things and then run back. Rinse and repeat.

I would much prefer less "questing" (which to me, at this point, is a dirty word) and just a world where I decide what to do. I want it dangerous, I don't mind dying or running for my life. I actually like a bit of the survival stuff that some new games have started offering.

Yeah, I mean, quests are fine. Like, look at Witcher 3, now that has some truly epic quests. Now look at WoW and many themeparks, and its like you said, they are a relay race to kill X things go back and then kill X things again. I'd say The Secret World has really decent "quests" though, and SWTOR isn't too bad though still has the kill X thing attached. TSW is pretty decent as far as MMO stories go.

if I recall, even Ultima Online has quests, but they are pretty epic and feel like actual quests. Like you, there are no problems with those. But most quests in MMOs are kill X and repeat, which are terrible and for me, worse than grinding in one spot.

    Also....

Also totally agree. I just enjoy the game and do whatever I feel like doing. Don't feel like grinding levels or whatever? There is plenty of other things to do. Sure if someone wants to be competitive it definitely would feel like a whole nother job.

But if you play like Sovrath (and I) play, just do whatever and play the game on your own terms (like he said)...the game is actually pretty fun. There is something always to do, and if you don't want to do one thing, can do something different or explore a new area or whatever. Or get a boat and travel the oceans, or fish (which manual fishing is a thing, it doesn't have to be AFK) or lots of things to do.

The game doesn't hold your hand though like a lot of MMOs do. So a lot of things one can do are up to the player to decide to do them.

Also I do think they designed the "rewards" pretty well. While you can AFK and get free stuff after X amount of time, it gives an incentive still to be on the game doing stuff. Like when Dark Knight came out, I ended up with almost 30 days of free value pack time (could have got more actually, but my PC died so I lost a bunch of bonuses that came with the Dark Knight), which would be worth about 15 dollars for what I got. Value packs are pretty much BDO's version of a "subscription". I mean, what other MMO has rewarded players 30 days of a subscription for free lol.

People have complained about the cash shop, but they sure give a lot of free stuff for just being on the game.

Oh yeah, the Gavinya Crater and Sulfur Mines is a very nice place to explore. Pretty challenging mobs too. And I've spent most of my weekend doing ocean content to work on crafting the upgrades I need for my sailboat. I think that is where BDO is different from many other MMO's I have played, it can be fun to play non-competitively.  I have a few friends in the game and we have been trading, fishing, horse breeding and exploring for a year now.

I hate RNG and cash shops but I find the BDO shop acceptable compared to other similar games.

yeah, BDO is actually a really nice casual game if you don't focus on being the best at PvP. In fact, the other day I was reading chat...a few people said how good BDO is for people who have jobs and stuff. Which is pretty true if you aren't playing competitively, that you can do a lot and a large variety of things, still make progress but don't have to be hardcore about it.

And I think that's the thing, for those who "hate/dislike" the game because of the gameplay, they buy into the idea that "you have to do it this way".

Now granted, the way I play requires a bit more patience but most of my gear is Tet and I enchanted none of it.

The highest I enchanted a piece of gear was Tri and I decided after that I was out. The game is unplayable for me if I have to do that. So I sell everything, save my money and buy it off the market.

The slow acquisition of power, for this game, is fine for me.

exactly what I do. We play the same exact way in BDO.

I did try enchanting gear, but found out its a lot less "stressful" (it wasn't really stressful, but dunno a better word for it at moment) and more relaxing to sell everything and buy your own gear. Might not get THE best gear (still get really good gear out of the market though from players selling), but its more than fine for most gameplay.

And its not that hard to make money in BDO, especially with all the freebies.

The highest I enchanted a piece of gear was Tri and I decided after that I was out. The game is unplayable for me if I have to do that. So I sell everything, save my money and buy it off the market.

The slow acquisition of power, for this game, is fine for me.
This is how I play too. Enchanting gear is a pain in the ass and I for one am looking forward to the enchanting re-work. This game is a love/hate relationship for me. I love the gameplay and the world, and the freedom to do what I want when I want, but the RNG makes it painful sometimes. Instead of treating this game like a job, I just enjoy my time with it and put it down and play something else, or real life commitments.

Enjoy the game for what it is and you will go far in the game. I personally can't play games like WoW or EQ anymore. People think the grind in BDO is bad, who remembers hell levels in EQ?

But if you play like Sovrath (and I) play, just do whatever and play the game on your own terms (like he said)...the game is actually pretty fun.

I was into Asheron's Call at the time, not EQ. But wow was leveling in AC slow! especially once you got higher into the level cap (level cap was super high in AC)...to get a high level in AC took me over 3 years of playing rofl. But it could have been since I was younger and it was my first MMO so I didn't play it "optimally", but it still took way longer to level (at least when I played) than modern MMOs take.

e market though from players selling), but its more than fine for most gameplay.

And its not that hard to make money in BDO, especially with all the freebies.
    I know right?

I mean, I open up one of those boxes and I'm selling something for 10 million plus.

I'm not really much of a gambler so all those stones they give me I sell as well. When I started enchanting it was a royal pain to waste stones so I started just force enchanting (building up failstacks is SO tedious for me.)

After I crossed Pri I realized that I could keep "losing" stones or I can just sell them. Selling them has been the right course.

If I had my PC I would still be deep into this game. I loved playing it. Grinding is fun, and I earned pretty much anything I needed out of the cash shop with silver. Enchanting kinda sucked, but based on what Daakkon said, if there's a rework I'm pumped for that.
