Confirmed banned for having afterburner running (literally the only outside program running at the time of play). I have discord but a) it wasnt running at the time I had D2 open and b) I dont run the overlay anyways, so afterburner is the only other potential culprit. Already filed a chargeback with Visa. Absolutely trash.
They are BULLSHIT BUNGIE LIERS. I started Destiny2 and it was sitting at the load screen for about 8 minutes before I manually went into task manager and killed it. Restarted it same issue. After I then stopped the game and battlenet launcher then relaunched the game it finally launched. I watched created character, watched intro movie. I was then in the game for about 45 seconds where the first monsters bust out at you game crashes. I relaunch again, account was saying it was banned. I played for 45 seconds. yup, BULLSHIT LIERS!
The usual pack of cheaters crying fowl. Sorry anyone that falls for these players crying has no brain. I am actually worn out of all of these players who feel compelled to cram every possibly advantage into these games from voice chat, to overlays, to dps monitors to more straight up cheats like bots map hacks etc. Install the client play the game or GTFO , zero farks given that your xxx add on doesnt work or gets you banned.

You may have run afoul of a different area of their policy where they say they will restrict or ban accounts of players whose hardware or network connections create issues within the game.

Ban all the cheaters, permanently, from all platforms...
If only that was possible They will always find a way back.
You raise a good point, if their approach actually results in significantly less cheating, perhaps the collateral damage of some small subset of players (innocent or otherwise) being banned justifies the means.

Good response by Bungie. Cheating will kill this game and everyone is watching.
Of course this assumes Bungie isn't lying or just mistaken, and all those complaining are just cheaters.
I wonder though if people could have something running on their machines that neither they or Bungie realize could be triggering a false positive.
I know everyone in prison is innocent and all that, but still I wonder if all protesters are truly guilty.
Also with Bungie unwilling to share details behind their decisions (I understand why) its hard to tell if this might be the case.
It could be that they're idiots and don't know what they're doing. If that's the case it will cost them. Teams of mathematicians can make mistakes but experience has taught me that people are lying cheaters that have nothing to lose by lying whereas Bungie has hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, lawsuits, and criminal charges to face if they're exposed for fraud on this scale.
Think back to all the exploit and gold buying admission threads we've had here over the years and how people have justified and rationalized all the times they've bought gold and how their "thing" wasn't really an exploit. Then add that to all the people who said they've done, still do it, and don't give two forks what anyone thinks of that.
I mean why would a post come here on these forums and lie to generate drama. They could be telling the truth, that they got innocently banned. That would be too bad. I just don't believe them though.
You have a great point. I agree with it completely. Doesn't change the fact that I was banned after having the game installed less than 24 hours on PC whereas my PS4 account is just fine and dandy.
Like I said in my post that you lol'ed on, I've already filed a chargeback with Visa and it's no skin off my back. Maybe Bungie can afford to have a few false positives or whatever the hell is going on, but that doesn't entitle them to keep my money. Blizzard has had a few mishaps where they have inadvertently banned players unjustly and offered mea culpa's afterwards. Usually in regards to things like linux and similar.
But again, no skin off my back, I'll just stick to Warframe. I'd bet in a week or two we see Bungie handing out apologies but in the meantime theyve lost folks like me as a customer, Certainly won't be buying any copies for my kids for xmas.
Just to add, I was lvl 3. I was really hacking the shit out of things I guess.
That's good that they are being serious about not allowing any cheating in their game but discord and overlays should be allowed every game I play on PC has no issues with those.
Edit: I play D2 on PS4 and in pvp this guy was lagging so bad and it was on purpose very hard to kill him yet he was killing everyone, I was teamed up with a friend he saw same thing as me we reported his ass.
Yep, the actual problem with D2 will begin to show itself soon enough. That problem being Peer to Peer hosting. Even with their alleged "technical innovations" there will always be an issue when someone has super shit internet but is also the match host. They will always see you first, and they will lag all over. Even if they aren't host, they will still be teleporting all over the place.
Same problem with D1, and many other fps games that decide dedicated servers aren't worth the cost.
I was one of the unlucky to be banned. Only software that ran was indeed the latest beta of MSI afterburner. Game crashed two times in the same mission. Third time booting up I got banned. The complete ignorance by Bungie disgusts me. Trying to save their ass by a few 'we know nothing' PR lines.
I'm starting to think that the GPU overclock made their anti-cheat think the game ran 'too fast', which would be very poor coding indeed.

I've honestly never had my experience in a game degraded to such an extent by cheaters that I could agree with this statement. /shrug Maybe I've just been lucky.
Well my PC account was unbanned as of an hour ago. I didn't file anything with them, and they didn't email me any notifications. Quite a few people are reporting they have been unbanned as well. Bungie updated their post to go from '4 people' to a 'small group' and last I count there were 53 of us who have been unbanned at this point.
So yea, all the pompous attitudes in this forum can choke on some crow and realize that bungie is still the same shit company they have always been.
I ordered this game the other day, and I get it today, but I use a lot of those Apps that are said not to work with it such as OverWolf,Xsplit,Fraps,Geforce Experience,Discord, fi for some reason the game is unplayable, or I get banned for using any of these I am taking it to small claims since this is a U.S based company, because I am sure my PC meets all the minimum system requirements, there is no reason that this game should not allow me to play using Discord for example or other apps, and often I find myself running 2-3 games at one time on a single PC no reason I should be restricted if my hardware can handle it.
Hopefully there are no problems, but I am not sure what to believe at this point its hard to believe that this game would have cheaters / hackers on the very day of launch I mean what is the point of that?
Been playing just fine with afterburner running in the background handling my overclock 1080ti and using Nvidia experience overlay for FPS and had no problems bringing up the options overlay in-game.
It is interesting as little as around 400 effected people (ofc alot less probably report it on forums) and every news site / youtube channel reports on it right away... almost like they had their stories ready for launch after they knew bungie said they were limiting overlays and just waited for the first incident to pop up lol.

Very few people will take to the forums to complain, most will probably complain directly to Bungie or Blizzard, most likely to Blizzard since it is run through their launcher, i doubt whether the number is just a mere 400, far more likely that we are talking about multiple thousands, that some of these bans are now being revoked would indicate to me that there is some factor that is causing false positives in the cheat detection algorythm, the question is has it been disabled or fixed at this point.

Oh and you already filed your chargeback. That's a shame.
A shame perhaps, but not exactly unexpected, gaining goodwill is difficult, but to garner animosity from players who feel they have been unfairly treated is ridiculously easy, this is why companies have to move quickly when they are perceived to be at fault and damage done is difficult to undo. I suspect this is just the beginning of this particular saga regarding Bungie/Blizzard and Destiny 2.
Something isn't adding up, the amount of complaints about receiving a ban and the number of players they said they had banned, seems way off.
So this has, "they done goofed" written all of it, but i do find it funny regardless of what company or how much of a scumbag they are, players will always believe them when it comes to cheating, even if people aren't cheating.
It's the one thing companies, not matter how much they're hated can fall on and get players on their side I've noticed.
The real question is... How is it working? Is it stopping the cheaters?
If so, maybe other FPS games can learn from this "hard-line" stance.
There is nothing to learn, bans have been happening since 1998,there is no way to stop cheating unless 100% is server side and that is NEVER happening ever or a constant file check but again that is not a full solution and will cause lag depending on size of file checks.
To the guy mentioning lag, that is a known cheat again since 1998 and you don't need any third party tools to do it.I actually tested an aimbot with tons lag to see if would work and it did not but over the years they added bots that can cater to lag somewhat.
COD had that replay cam which could help a lot in checking for hacks but would need to be longer, like 10 seconds maybe and not shown on screen but there for review later.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

The number of bans now appears to be significantly large, it seems that it is being caused by 3rd party software, and in this case everything from Discord to Nvidia's shadow play, it won't be long now before the online pundits home in on this one, as Bungies blood is in the water and it won't be long before the sharks are no longer circling, but engaged in a feeding frenzy. If what you say is true Electronic Arts would never be able to sell a game, yet millions still flock to them regularly.
Even if Bungie pisses off 100K people its acceptable losses in a game which could easily sell 5M copies.
For some reason customer good will isn't as necessary in gaming as in some other industries. (Especially when the company counts customers in the millions. )

I suspected on further review they might find their process was a bit over zealous and require some fine tuning.
Looks like they are busy restoring those mistakenly banned as well.
Of course, we know what happens to accounts of people who ask for a chargeback.
Patience, almost a lost virtue these days.
Anger however still exists in abundance.
YES YES, I am too unbanned when I tried to log in today. I mean how would you feel if €80 gets taken away from you unrightfully? And the complete lack of communication is what pissed most people off.

This is part of the problem too, no transparency as Bungie are refusing to say why they are banning people, that many have already gained refunds rather than waiting it out, mostly i suspect because if your going to successfully refund a game you need to do so very quickly, i am guessing is that the current thinking is that once its sorted out and people know its 'safe' to return, then those who refunded may well repurchase the game. Bungie needs to reassure potential players at this point, that using software such as discord - which will most likely be a requirement for most Clans in the PC version just as some guilds in BDO and FFXIV:ARR etc. also have Discord as a requirement for membership which given Destiny 2's lack of communication tools, being compatible with Discord and/or other voice comms options is an absolute requirement. That this problem is even a thing is crazy, Bungie is supposed to be an experienced developer, making such elementary mistakes is staggering.
I've never done a credit card chargeback in my life. But if I spent $60+ on a product that was immediately taken away from me with no reason. And the company told me, "Sorry, we don't do reviews of bans, all bans are final", you better believe I'd be on the phone with the CC company in a flash.
