Everyone is very aware of the game already, most just don't feel it's a good game. Auto Assault has gotten a ton of publicity, it's not like they aren't making sales because the tried to keep it quiet.

I wouldn't hold your breath on a review actually turning the tide that heavily.
Glad you enjoy the game though.

Your right, despite AA being a fun game (and a 12 step program) there is room for improvement in crafteing, high end content, pvp, ect...
However the system is easy to use and more fun then any of the 'hack and slash' models like WOW or Guild Wars.
It's certainly not for everyone, but it's very solid and well put together. It should be far more popular than it is.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Tried it, it just didn't excite me so I tried it very little and I think that is the case for many. I am sure it will grow slowly and perhaps become a similar success story to EVE.

I think, however, it's going to be hard for AA to succeed by the same route that EVE took, because it cost a lot more than EVE to develop, and NC Soft is a company with more than one game in its roster. I don't think AA could survive for as long as EVE did with low player numbers, so somehow they're going to have to get more people in the game.
It's a puzzle as to why more people aren't interested in AA. It's not my own cup of tea, but I like EVE-type games and so my tastes are already not mainstream and can't be really representative of the vast majority of gamers. I agree that it has gotten a lot of publicity, I don't think that's the issue. People are aware of the game, certainly. It could be, as has been suggested, that the game has been "mismarketed", but I'm not sure about that ... the game IS actually a combination of an action game and an RPG, and that's kind of how it's been marketed. Is it really the case that if an MMO is not in the fantasy sword and sorcery genre, it is automatically a "niche" game?
It certainly isn't lack of advertising... they even have big displays at Gamestop. The bad thing is that the display looks cooler than the game. I haven't played it, so all the opinions i have of the game are based on the media they have put out there, and it just doesn't compel me to play the game.
It seems to me that the game lacks the kind of features that would make it worth a monthly fee to me.... in fact, i doubt i would pay the 50 bucks for this game even if it didn't have a monthly fee. I had high hopes for the game when it was announced, but there just isn't enough to it. Based on the media they have released the game seems really one dimensional and extremely content poor. All the screenshots show the same 4 or 5 cars on the same desolate landscape. if that isn't the case, then they need to get the media out there to correct that perception.
A previous poster mentioned EVE, and my initial turn off to both games is the same. I want an MMO where i get to fly a spaceship or drive a car.. not a game where I get to BE a car or a spaceship... but at least with EVE, there seems to be some depth to it. If there is anything more to AA than driving in circles blowing stuff up, they need to let us know.
-----Zero Punctuation Eve Online Review-----
My largest problem as well was the art to me didn't depict the game at all. I loved what I saw in the art for the game, however when I got into the game the look and feel of it was rather "corny". It's a good game however I think they over-hyped themselves on what it is and that turned alot of people off too it.
I was also turned off by the fact that it seemed to be heavily instanced like Guild Wars yet wanting the monthly of a regular MMO. I could be wrong on that but it was the impression I got from the Guild Wars style instance picker and that didn't make me real happy.
Had it been free like Guild Wars, I probably would have eventually bought it. However even if it was free I wouldn't have been right there to get it at release.

Well to each his own. I was in beta, and found it lacking too. But after some time away from the game, i came back when it went live. Now i cant put it down. It has its flaws, but it most cases it feels my needs for a MMO. I just like how different t is from everything else out there. I can come home from work, and put a couple hours in, and not once have i worried about what level i was. In fact each time i lvl, im caught unaware and im surprised. They made this game to be a game where you lvl while you play, not play to lvl. Which is my cup of tea!
I think people will come as time moves on. As it is, each night i log on, i find more and more people playing. So i think this is a game that will steadly rise as opposed to being a (queued in line and wait game). Hence thats why this game didnt have the issue of wow. But i just hope this game takes off. I really have found the game im going to stick with for the long haul.
See, I feel the exact opposite about it. Too me the game felt like every other MMO just with a different skin on. Pulling my car up to the quest guy standing in the middle of a camp to get a quest from him that was the usual ole type box for me to read felt very used and done already for a new game like this one.
The car felt like it was hammered into the game and made to fit so they could give it an auto themed name. It just all felt wrong too me and done before, just different mobs and a different theme.

Indeed. This has been my impression as well.
I think whether one likes it comes down to whether one really likes (1) the novelty of driving around in cars, (2) the more twitch-based action-based gameplay and (3) the destructible environments and crashing into them and blowing them up. I think the people who are liking this game are reporting liking it because they like a combination of (1), (2) and (3).
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
One thing AA people are going to have to accept is AA is never going to be a generally accepted game by the MMO market. It's too different.
Why does pop music sound alike? Why do all sit-coms and block busters have the same plot elements? Because it sells well, and companies want to make money.
As such, PvE Centric, Fantisy based games are the cookie cutter.
This doesn't mean AA can't survive, but it's always going to be a small player in the market. But that's cool, AA will have much better community as a result.
I think the above poster on newbie instancing may be right. For whatever reason people want to log in and see 200 other n00bs wondering around lost. I guess it makes them feel better or something. Since they don't means game is boring and sucks.

Back to running down people, road rage ftw.

When did you last try it? I was in the beta around August of '05 and I hated the game - deleted it off my harddrive almost immediately. Since that time, they made a ton of changes for the better. I decided to try it again after hearing about people liking it more now and fell in love with it this time.
Also, as for the graphics, most of the beta accounts were to pump up server numbers. To accomdate these people, they limited the download size of the game by reducing a LOT of the graphics options. Up until release, I complained on the boards about the shitty graphics. I still got the game despite that and was amazed by the beauty of the full version of the game. It's really quite stunning now. I think they made a mistake in limiting the graphics like that since I feel it may have turned more people away.
As for instances - almost nothing is instanced except boss battles. There are exceptions, with pocket zones for you and your convoy to play on, but the bulk of the game is NOT instanced.

No problem.
And no offense to anyone here, but I feel like some people are spreading misinformation about the game. I don't mean they're doing it maliciously, just that they are basing their comments off of beta from six months to a year ago. It's a night and day difference since then, however. I can attest to that first-hand. Right now, I've got an 18th level human and a 10th level mutant. I've been in a grand total of ONE private instance: the stating tutorial zone. In beta, I was in a second instanced zone when I took on a boss. Saying this game is too instanced is just wrong - it's NOTHING like GW. It's nowhere near as instanced as CoH/CoV or DDO.
And again, I don't mean that as a slight against anyone. Just that if it's been a while since you've tried the game, your experiences may or may not reflect the current state of the game.
I skipped the tutorial and went right to the real world where I saw an almost clone duplicate showing the instance picker in the top left corner. It only had like 2 instances since it was beta and mid day though I had presumed. That is what gave me the impression of instancing in the game.

They had a free open beta about two weeks ago.
I'm sure they'll do free 14 day trials soon - practically every MMOG does.
2 days before they announced it was going gold.

Correction, I played the beta from about a month before launch til the beta closed and I said SEEMS like. I never stated that it WAS heavily instanced. And I noted that I could be wrong on that statement, so there was no misinformation. If you were referring to me in that comment you however were assuming incorrectly on when I played the beta.

I apologize for the mistaken assumption.
It was the following comment in particular that caused me concern that people could get the wrong impression of the game: "I was also turned off by the fact that it seemed to be heavily instanced like Guild Wars yet wanting the monthly of a regular MMO. I could be wrong on that but it was the impression I got from the Guild Wars style instance picker and that didn't make me real happy."
It's nothing like Guild Wars... I just wanted to make that clear for anyone considering the game. I don't consider Guild Wars to be a persistant world, a true MMOG. This game is.
All I can say is, try the retail version. I've been playing for 3 days now and to me everything feels just so right about this game. It's fun and addictive and the graphics and gameplay have really sucked me into the world of AA. It's just a balls out good time. Haven't noticed any instancing at all yet, although I'm pretty busy having fun. Getting massive air (press B at the top of a jump ) blowing up cities and running over mutated pedestrians (Killing Spree!) it's the most fun I've had in an MMO since......I've never had this much pure fun in an MMO. Period.
Auto Assault is all about fun and on that it delivers in spades.
