My type of game? *few questions*

FlaebFlaeb Member Posts: 91

hey i was checking this game out and it seem pretty fun, just wondering if this will be my type of game.

-Is this game more "fun" or "work" *aka, farm farm farm farm all the time zzzz*"FF11 example"
-when do u actually get out of the vehicle, can u do it anytime or like a certain town or something
-will this game keep a hardcore gamer like myself  interested and playing for a while? I liked games like Planetside*but got bored after a year*, unreal tournament *not a mmo but i can see how this game relates sorta*,and WoW.
-Hows the PvP? really fast paced *i can tell it is*, does it actually require good skill? does pvp happen a lot? can u pvp anywhere *like a certain zone* or just the arena?
-How does the loot system work? Kill something and u loot or it drops on the ground and u run over it and pick it up and is the item system actually good ? *like there r lots of items like a real mmorpg*
-Last question and sorta important to me. Hows the end game content PvP AND PvE

I appreciate u guys taking the time reading and answer as much as u can,sry for all the questions but u don't need to answer em all

    1) Its fun. The story arc is pretty cool and quest are fun although sometimes it can be pretty repeatable. For me, I put in a mixture of grind, farming and quest completion to level up. I hate grinding but in AA, its actually quite fun.
    2) You get out only in towns. There, you can trade, craft, sign up for arena fights, go to you accomodation, LFG
    3) Yes, I think. And even more so when ND starts putting out more content and PvP
    4) There is the arena for PvP. The other PvP area is Ground Zero at the higher levels. Can't tell you much about it 'cos I have not reached it.
    5) There is a huge load of loads ranging from craftable items to weapons to chasis, paint cans for your cars etc...

It's been a while since I played FF11, so I'm not really sure what you mean by farming.  Are you constantly killing?  Well, it *is*, at its heart, a car combat game and there is a lot of combat.  It's fun combat though... there is no "press auto attack and walk away" stuff here.  The missions are fun and well-written, some of the best written I've seen actually, and the crafting has a lot of depth to it.

-when do u actually get out of the vehicle, can u do it anytime or like a certain town or something
You get out in the towns, not on the highway (you'd be killed toot sweet if you got out of your armored car on the highway!)  While in towns, you can do trade, crafting, missions, vehicle upgrades, and socialize.
-will this game keep a hardcore gamer like myself  interested and playing for a while? I liked games like Planetside*but got bored after a year*, unreal tournament *not a mmo but i can see how this game relates sorta*,and WoW.
I consider myself hardcore.  I've played almost every MMOG on the market, and I love this game.  Fun as hell.  And if Planetside kept you interested for a year, I'd say that was a success for Planetside, not a failure.
-Hows the PvP? really fast paced *i can tell it is*, does it actually require good skill? does pvp happen a lot? can u pvp anywhere *like a certain zone* or just the arena?

Yes, it requires a lot of skill.  It's some of the most fun pvp I've played.  You have to constantly worry about positioning, the environment, and special attacks, all while you and your opponent are moving around at a high rate of speed.  It's fun.  Pvp is completely consensual.  You can pvp in the arena or in the pvp zones.... not in the pve zones.
-How does the loot system work? Kill something and u loot or it drops on the ground and u run over it and pick it up and is the item system actually good ? *like there r lots of items like a real mmorpg*
Tons of items, lots of different stats.  There's a lot of depth in the game that I think surprises people who are just expecting Twisted Metal.  It's more like Autoduel.  You run over items to pick them up.

-Last question and sorta important to me. Hows the end game content PvP AND PvE

I don't know this one yet.  From what I hear, it's mostly pvp right now.  Then again, it's a very new MMOG and this type of thing is usually supplemented later as more content is added.  It's a great game now and, as with every MMOG except SWG, will only get better with time.

All MMO's are a bit repetitive. Personally I love this game, because the combat dynamics are allot different. You don't stand in from of a mob, and push attack, then maybe a couple moves.

Your always moving (or should be), and you can run over things. The world has some physics, so you can bust through a wall, smoosh the people inside and drive off.

It's loads of fun. Yes, you can really destroy buildings, fences, pipes, poles, whatever. It all blows up.  You know you always wanted to drive a tank through mini-mall and watch it go up in smoke.

The question is, do you think running over people with a car is fun? If so you'll like this game.

-when do u actually get out of the vehicle, can u do it anytime or like a certain town or something

Yes, when you go to town, it's on foot. However once you see what you do people on foot when in a car, you'll be happy most of the game is played in the car.

Nobody knows yet. You don't know the high end until you get to it. WoW had no high end when I got to it.

-Hows the PvP? really fast paced *i can tell it is*, does it actually require good skill? does pvp happen a lot? can u pvp anywhere *like a certain zone* or just the arena?

It's like DAoC and WoW BG's. There is a large zone from 60-80 call ground zero. It's open PvP with things to capture. Also where large raid bosses are.

The area is like a BG, you go there you can do all sorts of things, death match, teams, 1v1, CTF...ect.

-How does the loot system work? Kill something and u loot or it drops on the ground and u run over it and pick it up and is the item system actually good ? *like there r lots of items like a real mmorpg*

Yes when you blow up stuff. (buildings, cars, people) stuff drops. Some of it is loot, some of it is trade skills items.

Trade skills are pretty important. It gives you access to stuff quicker than a drop and cheaper than buying it.

You can also buy loot from vendors.

-Last question and sorta important to me. Hows the end game content PvP AND PvE

No one really knows..... it's to new. Yes there will be high end raids, how many people or how hard got me.

I assume it will be like DAoC high end PvP, You have a large zone with towers and places to take over. witch means lots of reasons to fight.

If you get in now, your getting in the ground floor of a new game. If you don't like it a year... /shurg maybe by then WoW will have exp pack. Or maybe just 1.11.  Your not out much by giving it a try.

constant PvP is fun for a while, but i think storylines, quests, and more importantly people are what make a game lasting..  How are the guilds setup?  And what's the economy like.  NCSoft's Lineage 2's economy is hair-raisingly difficult.

The game has great story arches, long wordy, detailed.... and nothing I'm interested in. But those that are just love it.

I think you set up a guild, by talking to the guild NPC, picking a name, and then inviting your friends. I haven't done it myself but it can't be very hard others have figured it out.

The economy is a player driven economy. You kill stuff, you sell it, you make money. You spend your money. You don't have to repair anything... so I'm not sure what the source is to remove items from the market.

Loot binds to you, WoW style. So that helps keep inflation down.

There is no bizzare/AH/ebay currently. But they promise it soon. Probably the most lacking thing in the game. So warm up your WTS key, and get your flash backs to east commons tunnle ready!

As someone said to me last night, not reading the missions is like watching a movie on mute.  The mission stories are crazy good.  I'm serious - I've played almost all of the MMOGs on the market, and these missions are much more interesting than most.  (Mutant, in particular.  Human missions are a little dry.)  If you want good writting, this is for you.

Or, you can just skip reading the missions, do your mission objective, and race through the game to the max level.  That's not my idea of fun, but some people like that.  Entirely up to you.

A couple things about the high end zone: Ground Zero

It is still consentual PvP. In order to reach the area, or more correctly the version, that is PvP you need to interact with an interface. There is end game PvE content, which as a non-PvP person made me really happy.

There is no specific "Raid" as was stated above. If you go to the PvP version of Ground Zero you are basically in a raid of all members of your race vying for Obelisks (small targets to hold) and Outposts (big areas harder to hold for greater rewards). From what I understand (GZ was open in Beta but I didn't play it) you take these from NPCs and then hold them against other players. There are rewards to be had by holding them.

In the PvE version and going on at the same time on the PvP side (I think, not sure if the boss mobs are also happening in PvP side) there are Boss Mobs that while not raid necessary I understand are very tough and require a good group. AA groups can be up to 8 people. Up until that point there is little content that requires a convoy (AA group) which some people are griping about but personally I love playing solo or with my husband. Coming from WoW (and EQ before that) which requires grouping at least to even see some areas I am pleased my play style is not being ignored in this one.  :)
