I guess they have consulted with Destiny 2's financial department and are using their strat... ignore till people give up. Worked for D2 seems like it will work for MHO as well.

Btw I saw that some people are saying that they got their money's worth, but that's really subjective...
If someone has let's say paid $150 with the idea that he will be playing the game for the next 24 months, but instead the game shuts down in 9 months do you still consider that he has got his money worth?

I saw that some people mentioned a movie... Well would you feel the same if you paid for a movie that's 90 min long, but after the 50 min you were told that it's over and you should leave would you also agree that you got your money's worth?

What I'm saying is that it really depends on with what motivation and expectation people went in the game.

I dunno did that guy come on a forum and say he got his money worth or rage against the machine?

cause you know. . .its all subjective.

I truly do feel bad for those who spent money and soon won't be able to enjoy the game; however, this is the price we pay for playing on someone else's equipment.

Some refunds should be made, but there has to be a cutoff, and I thought they had mentioned a specific "refund after this" day.

This is the biggest reason I no longer spend much time with online-only games, money's worth gotten or not.

I say one year is enough for an MMO bought on a console. The disc will be worthless in a few months anyway. It's a pity the game is ending. I was considering it for a while but never made the time to try it. I think it would be cheaper to stop sales and leave the game open for a few more months to let players get enough time in so they won't be wanting a refund than take the PR hit.

That said, the TOS is exploitative. What are you doing to do, take it back to the store and demand a refund? You already opened the box, Wal-mart is not going to help you.

The sad truth is that Gaz and Disney don't have to give any refunds if they choose not to. It's the nature of EULAs. Also the Buyer/Seller contract was honored legally on Gaz's part. Consumers paid money and were provided with a product even as short lived as that product was.

The players have no legal leg to stand on here and it will be totally up to the companies involved whether or not refunds will be issued. Knowing Disney there will definitely not be any refunds coming from them and Gaz may not have the resources at this point to handle all of the refunds alone.

I'm afraid that the players in this case are going to be screwed and there is nothing legally they can do about it.

Why do people even bother with stuff like this?

Seriously, anyone that wants a refund, just call you bank and order them to issue a charge back on every payment you've made to them. There is nothing they will be able to do about it other than suspend your account. The game is closing so what the hell does that matter?

    With recent purchases, sure.

But from purchases made months ago? Banks wont do that so easily.

Besides its a fair assumption that players DID enjoy the game last month and prior months (otherwise they would have asked for refunds sooner) - so as far as past entertainment value - you could argue they got their moneys worth.

I mean do you ask your bank for a refund after a bad movie?

Here's a thing people don't seem to understand, chargebacks are actually managed by the merchant selling the product, and not the financial institutions themselves.

So Gazillion has to agree to accept the chargeback, or challenge it. If they accept it, the funds are withdrawn from the Merchant's accounts, not the bank's.

If the merchant can't cover the bank may choose to do so, but it is entirely at their discretion.

If that was true no one would ever get their chargeback claim. Chargeback is an instrument of a financial institution not a merchant.

If you have a good credit card company and have been a good customer they will fight for you. I've done about three charge backs over the years and they settled the dispute very quickly. This is after getting a go around with one dispute when I tried to settle it myself. From now on if I do have a problem with a purchase I just flag the transaction for an investigation right away. It's actually pretty rare though.

I don't remember buying anything from MH since they started focusing on consoles. I played it a lot way before that so feel like I've gotten my money's worth. I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of class action for consoles owners who bought the game if they aren't generous with refunds.

    1. If a customer bought something in the last month then, yeah, I feel they should get their money back. I highly doubt this was sprung on either company and figure they had entered negotiations for at least a month.

    2. Gaz has no responsibility to refund as stated in their EULA. Problem is most people either Don't pay attention or care about fine print and then when they get hit with things like this they start to complain. If they knew there was a shutdown imminent and still sold then yeah that is scummy, but those who bought several months back should not get a refund.

    3. Charge back should not be the way to handle these things. It's going to get to a point where people do this just because they can and then banks will stop doing it, or worse charge a premium to do it. In the end it will only hurt those who try to remain honest and those who do it just because they are butt hurt will ruin it for everyone.

Wrong is wrong. Funny how Microsoft recognizes this. They released a game in June with planned out content till February. They released content that promoted longevity( OMEGA SYSTEM). I don't understand what anyone's arguing about. Had marvel heroes stayed on PC and decided to close by all means. But they scammed the console players. As far as an analogy. GAz bought the rights from marvel and had a 10 year contract. 2013 is when the game released if you went to the movies. And the movie runtime said two hours. But you watched it and it ended in 30 mins regardless how enjoyable the 30 mins was I'm pretty sure you would want your money back. If this is the practice of F2Ps why would anyone invest in them. That means we should all stop playing any game with a free to play model since it can shutdown at any moments notice.

They actually said recently that the license was renewed til 2025 so 2 years more than you said but still a stupid amount of time after 2017. Did they lie about the license being renewed? cause originally Doomsaw said the license was only until 2018 and now look the game is closing on Dec 31st 2017...

Perhaps if you actually worked for a merchant services bank you'd be better informed?

Merchants have to prove to the bank's satisfaction the chargeback is invalid, or the bank grants it.

Most don't bother to fight, especially for small amounts of money.

My guess is that Gazillion failed to meet quarterly requirements and it gave Disney an easy out even if they were more concerned about the pervert CEBro. Apparently the live Q&A was cancelled last minute as a result of this mess. A week or so later the company went silent.

I'd say PC players wanting a refund should just issue a charge back or communciate with steam. but both will have time limitations of course. Steam has like a 14 day limit and I have no idea what banks will say.

The license was renewed but it wasn't guaranteed to last. Disney was able to revoke their license, likely due to lack of income, nopayment of fees/profits or maybe even a morality clause.

Again, a chargeback is a refunding process between an card issuer institution (on behalf or buyer) and merchant's BANK (or seller; not a merchant directly)

I don't have to work for any services bank for this information not sure why you are trying to insinuate it as such.

Just because they have it in contract does not mean your rights are waived. If the product did not meets its expectations there is room for legal action.

This has definitely made me reconsider spending extra $ in an mmo - f2p or not. Spend a couple hundred on heroes this year alone, and still have currency in the Gazillion online store.

A friend of mine spend $350 in the PlayStation store on this game, only to have the game cancelled. Supposedly, chargebacks against PlayStation will get your PlayStation account suspended. Although, according to this friend, XBox is honoring refund requests... (I haven't researched any of these claims.)

Normally id say tough shit when a MMO shuts down, hey nothing lasts for ever right, except for WOW. But in this case not even making a year on console, Thats just wrong

This was the 1st ever MMO I've played, and I LOVED it! I've played this game for 2 years within my free time; spare time; down time. I didn't care about the money - playing the game was an enjoyable experience. So disappointed Disney has such a lack of vision, and misunderstanding of the MARVEL fan base. I hope MARVEL fans will stop going to see MARVEL titles in theaters, and stop purchasing the same on DVD/Blu Ray. The greedy; tunnel visioned money, money, money Disney machine. I'll wait until MARVEL titles come out on Netflix...unless Disney is pulling MARVEL from there next.
