During last month’s Blizzcon, we have been pondering the World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth expansion announcement. Several new features were revealed, however, none of the new systems came with much attendant detail. From our view, the rushed feel of the Battle for Azeroth announcement suggests that this was not exactly what Blizzard wanted to reveal during Blizzcon.

I think Diablo has something else in the series coming up, and Blizzard is waiting on that one great cinematic or perfect timing to really show what it is cooking.
I am not sure of course, i am just spit balling here.
Blizzard also seems to be more focused on the casual shooters and card games.
Better save your pennies. I predict this will be announced at Blizzcon 2018 after the Battle for Azeroth expac comes out in September leaving them with a "gap" perfect for a major announcement.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As far as Warcraft 4 goes, I know a bunch of people want this, I don't see it happening for a few more expansions as it would conflict with WoWs current story arc.
Grated there are some thin rumors floating about the internet because of some hiring they did a year or two back for an unannounced IP, but I don't think its for another Diablo project.
While Diablo 3 is lacking in some new content, it's still a healthy game with player returning every season. With their absents from Blizzcon they announced over social media that they are reexamining the state of Diablo 3 as they are not happy with its progression. This leads me to believe that they are planning on making adjustments, not a whole new game.
For one, as you eluded to, the release cadence is pretty consistent for WoW. Not just for the past 2 releases, but since forever. Their release cadence has been pretty consistent since BC. So there should have been nothing short of expectation of a new expansion announcement for WoW.
So even if they WERE ready to do a Diablo World announcement, it's unlikely they would have. Instead they would more likely have already slated it to be announced at Blizzcon 2018.
Also, despite all the circumstantial evidence, the Diablo team has said for quite some time they would not be revealing anything at Blizzcon 2017, so if Diablo World is in the works, then they already have a VERY well-defined schedule for their announcement (Blizzcon 2018?). The fact that their absence at Blizzcon was a historic event (I didn't know that), only supports the idea that they are up to something.

In addition, none of the following have happened either: no friends & family in-house beta has started, no teases that "beta is coming soon" have been hinted at, there is no window for the pre-event and no general release date has been revealed either.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
With that said, it doesn't mean it's the end of Warcraft, nor that WoW 2 isn't in the works. The void is one hell of an enemy and if you've followed interviews and the lore, it's been hinted that the light may not be much better than its depicted counterpart. Mix that along the fact that you-know-who is yet undefeated, the several elemental planes that we haven't had the chance to remove yet (wind comes to mind as not being very cool), the black dragonflight with Wrathion (which is objectively shady), the Lich-not-lich-Bolvar King along with its not-so-small army of the undead, the infinite dragonflight that has yet to explain how the hell a prime dragon can become corrupt in a different timeline, the ogres and what the hell happened to them... and frankly probably a lot of stuff that I forgot for the time being.
Yet I'm pretty hyped if it's World of Diablo. Definitely looking forward to hear more about that unannounced project when Blizzard is ready!
Still, I do love me some Diablo...

Good point. I don't really have a great idea of pre-orders for previous expansions though, has it always been pretty much immediately following Blizzcon?
Re: Black Friday, I don't think we would have seen anything. In fact, I don't think there has ever been a black friday sale for an unreleased expansion for any developer, nevermind Blizzard. They did offer 50% off Legion and Overwatch though!
As far as beta goes, I believe that the beta opt-in has been up since the beginning of Novemeber, if my memory serves me correctly. I don't really think they do beta "sign-ups" per se, they simply select from the pool of anyone who has explicitly opted in for beta testing.

I for one would welcome a good isometric ARPG with more open world interaction. It could be just the shot in the arm that the stagnant ARPG genre needs.
Creating a new MMORPG........but which systems and mechanics to players want? Something like new WoW but with a fresh game or design it with a more classic use of systems and mechanics but with the proven upgrades.
Could be one big experiment.
But then again, maybe they just decided to offer a legacy version of WoW because well, because.
