I'm curious how many people are out there that just aren't interested in what they're making these days. Have you had any enjoyment at all or are you just filled with let down after let down? Currently I'm playing an mmorts and enjoying myself. I tried crowfall and i'm not interested in it because its just a battleground stretched onto a game world. "Capture the thing" gameplay isn't what i call good world pvp. And as for the PvE games, I'm done with quest hub grinding and level grinding.
Every upcoming game I see looks like they're doing some new innovated world design thing but I suspect gimmicks. They also have graphics that are too good. That's a turn off for me as it means they spend their money on cheap thrills. So I really feel like the genre is spamming casual stuff and it'll actually be a while until something sensational comes out. Oh well there's always other genres.

BDO is a very pretty grindfest with lots of AFK gameplay in a strange eastern-perceived pseudo-medieval setting.
It's nothing like what Vanguard was.
..Cake..
Since then, I've beta tested or tried out some of the big ones, like Wildstar, ESO and FFXIV. After the disappointment of SW:TOR, I set myself 4 criteria for a new MMO and nothing has met that criteria. My criteria:
Most current gen MMOs fail on all counts. Thats fine, I've accepted that I'm not the target market any more. But, MMOs have provided me with my best gaming memories, they are the pinnacle of gaming when done right, so I keep my eyes open in the hopes of finding a new good one.
Luckily, Camelot Unchained fits all 4 of my criteria, well, might be a bit lacking on the IP front but not by much. I know I still have to wait a while but I've waited this long, another year or two should be fine!
Bascally the issue I have is the recent gen of mmorpgs took out the required social aspect of the game, they also switched from being about the journey to rushing to level cap for the loot treadmill. Back when I played ff11 was before the Abbysea expansions which pretty much trivilized the entire game.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!
Agree.
If you look up the definition of "old school gamer" there's probably a cross reference to my name. (See also Methuselah)

LOL, you obviously never played Vanguard, by played I mean not tried it. Anyone who thinks BDO and Vanguard were similar is talking shit.
BDO=PVP
Vanguard = PVE.
I mean I could go on but I don't want to embarrassed you more.
I played Vanguard from beta to last day.
I think it quickly closed, which is one reason I never gave the game another try once they fixed it up some.

Times change I suppose, 10 years ago I was at least curious to try every new game first-hand, now I am satisfied with watching a few videos and reviews, that's usually enough to tell myself "nope, not for me"
On the "too good" graphics though. Technology moves on, games are bound to look better. At the risk of sounding like someone who's trying to sell you an encyclopaedia, the team of CU are constantly trying to worsen their graphics: every model they introduce goes through a careful polygon-count reduction process to make sure they are the bare minimum in order to have the best performances. If you already checked CU out and think that looks too good, I suppose that's comforting for us backers, since the graphics are at the very bottom of the priority list and they still manage to scare players off as been too good to be true
BDO Pvp is basicly used to claim limited good Pve spots so they can continue there farm for eternity due to no level cap which is why i quit that game. It was farm farm farm with the occasional PvP to keep a farm spot which was tedious and boring.
Almost everyone on the site is waiting for some kickstarter messiah to become a reality... that in an of itself doesn't bode well. It's like EA announcing a game today that will be released in 2040 and you all giving your left kidney for it now. Boggles the mind why you get hyped for something you HONESTLY know isn't going to be released any time soon.
Other than that, Classic WoW is easily the most exciting upcoming MMO news I’ve had in a long time.
I'm no generation expert but everything post wow that's still alive today i would consider 1 or 2 generations.
I hated the rush to level cap but i did it because I felt the game didn't really start until you were at level cap. Back then you couldn't even get a dungeon party together for anything but a lvl 60 dungeon. So I'm done with those type of mmos.
I'm not too interested in CU because I don't trust kickstarter yet. The only reason i got crowfall was because i was nearly desperate and had some christmas cash floating around. But those whole time i was thinking "what are you doing buying a CF game?".
Other than that,i have usually expected little and seen exactly what i expected.From Rift to GW2 to BDO,i found myself quitting within the same day or a day later.Even those other over hyped games i found to be simply over rated,like the Skyrim's and Zelda's,Dragon Age.
I look at games from the entire scope of the game,not simple gimmicks ,i see past a gorgeous character creator or past some best of END game nonsense,i look for a an overall well designed game.
As of right now,i am not excited about anything in the mmorpg genre,i do not see a HQ game coming.I am not even sure if i will ever see one ever again because times have changed,there seems to be a whole different era of gamer or what i call FAKE gaming,example Vrchat.
I knew the world was changing when i see people walking around with selfie sticks,i drop my head and just sigh,what has happened to the human race.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

The only one I stuck with for more than a week was BDO.
There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own.

Crafting and Diplomacy in Vanguard were revolutionary. So many great ideas from old MMOs have fallen by the wayside. This has to be one of the most interesting and one that could be so much more.
Give us BDO's graphics and possibly economy (must admit did not see as much of that as I should have), with ESO's play structure, throw in something new like Vanguards diplomacy and put the themepark meat in an outer bread sandbox roll. You can but dream.
