The backers of this title are not deeply concerned about its development,
Since when? They are and that seems what people around care about, the development, what people aren't concerned about is putting someone in a crucifix for the delays and problems the project has endured over time.

After five intense years; we the collective backers of Star Citizen write to you concerning the deeply troubling development being exhibited by the studios under your leadership. The dismal gameplay trajectory and a schedule that extends beyond 2018 into the unknown speak for themselves. As CEO of Cloud Imperium Games, you are responsible for the failures and shortcomings currently plaguing this ambitious game.
Star Citizen has promised many incredible things yet under your guidance it has primarily concerned itself with endless pixel perfection of game assets, animations, demos, and other inconsequential fluff. You pledged to build the game we are dreaming about. You pledged to offer respect and transparency. Over time it has become clear your real priorities are elsewhere; you practice highly questionable marketing and promote dishonest revisionism after your plans fail to materialize. Not once have you apologized for the sorry state of the project.
Star Citizen is the largest crowdfunded game in history and as such deserves better than your obsessive micromanagement and empty promises. Therefore, we the backers hereby request your resignation from the project.
You will work with backers to find a fully qualified replacement. Should this effort take longer than two months, the task of selection will fall to existing company leadership.
You will make us and the public aware of the current financial health of Cloud Imperium Games and disclose any existing private investments.
You will cease collecting a salary effective immediately. We encourage you to return any and all unearned funds to the project and publish a full account of your earnings since the onset of crowdfunding.
Petitions are quite difficult unless they have a great deal of support. I mean look at this one asking for them to prove their open development. 100 signatures in a year. There are dozens of other petitions that are similarly pathetic with less than 100 signatures. Also, it contradicts what ACTUAL backers on the ACTUAL forum polls on their site have indicated they want to see. Their responsibility is to their backers and their subscribers, all of whom haven't expressed a desire for a change in leadership, so good luck, I just don't see this changing anything.
Yet, Chris did promise after so long he would release everything including financials if the game wasn't released like in 2014, right? It was with original kickstarter I thought.

Nop. Blatantly false!
That was never a thing. It's another made up "fact" by the haters.
What was said is that IF the game development project stopped completely the backers would have access to everything, including financials.

Yes, and I thank you for pointing out that old petition. I was going to post to the same site, but a quick google search reveals change.org appears to sell any collected e-mails to marketers, or at least campaign spam starts showing up after signing something.
In my mind, the letter would have gotten more support yesterday. But apparently, the tone and way it was signed made it unpalatable to most active backers. I had another paragraph thanking Chris for his service and offering that he stay on as a creative consultant but my friend convinced me to remove it. The trouble is I am trying to rally the backers that have stopped paying attention to the development.
When I print it out later this week to send, I will probably change the relevant text and just sign my name.
At least I can say that I tried to correct the problem when I identified it. And Chris is most assuredly the biggest problem.

Currently the game has working trade both with shops and with cargo hauling. It has working combat (ground and space) and working missions. Now as of recently it has working planetary landing and character customization. Mining is due to release next quarter and territory claiming / female avatars by the end of the year.
So by the end of the year it will have enough of it's core systems into place that a lot of other kickstarter games would already be in open no-wipe beta.
Progress is actually looking very encouraging to me.

@Kyleran - So the game is "no closer to launching" until it launches? That seems a bit intellectually dishonest.
I would say completing core content needed to launch is a major factor of being closer to launch.
In the context of his post history, he'd be more intellectually dishonest to himself to state anything else.
Kyleran has consistently stated he isn't interested in projects prior to release state. He certainly isn't singling any particular title(s) from that position, it's his general opinion of all games.

As is so often the case with posters on these forums, you are being unnecessary literal.
Without knowing the complete, final list of target features planned for "launch", regardless how many get completed and the time remaining planned to complete them, you don't when it might happen.
You could be closer to the end, or the end may never come.
Again, the only relevant measures for a game 5 + years in development is how much work remains to reach the MVP / launch, and when do they expect to complete it.
As mentioned, this is not a standard I am only applying to SC, CU is another great example of devs endlessly delivering new content, but can't begin to SWAG a release date.
This doesn't bother most, they are content playing around for "fun," but that just isn't why I play games like this.
Imagine playing EVE for "fun." No, I can't imagine it either.

Thats an average of $90 per person.... I imagine other companies are looking at this and seeing how much has been raised with no risk to the company.....Several of us have said all along why even consider launch? Just keep going the way they are going.
