My daughter is very interested in this game. She loves the Chibi style and graphics. Looks like I am going to have to play this game with her.
I think thats probably the demographic they are aiming at, its not a game for adults, but one that adults will likely end up playing with their children, there is obviously a market for that kind of a game

Correction. It's not a game for insecure adults. The rest of us have no problem with "kiddie stuff" if the gameplay is fun.
insecure adults? i hadn't realised that Maple Story 2 had any sexualisation? Though i have to wonder how you equate parents playing games with their children in games that are meant for such as being indicative of some kind of insecurity?

Not sure if you're just acting ignorant to Torval's point or you really are. Tell me something... Is Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker a game for adults or kids? Super Mario World Odyssey for adults or kids? Boys or girls? Straight or Gay? If you answered any of those questions with one of the 2 options, you were wrong.
MapleStory 2 isn't a game for kids. It is a game. Period. Furthermore, you realize how stupid you are for solely basing a game off its graphics style right? That was a rhetorical question because I know that you do not based off your responses in this thread.
People like you who put arbitrary labels on things like cartoony graphics automatically being for kids just astound me sometimes. Same type of reasoning that people use when they say stupid shit like "pink is for girls, blue is for boys or anime is for kids".

I can't really comment on the Zelda games or the Super Mario World one as i haven't played them or even researched them at all, but i think it would be very hard to not see Maple Story 2 as being a game thats aimed primarily at the younger generation, as for the identity politics arguments, that you even resorted to using those kinds of specious strawman political BS, well the less said the better, too much of that BS IRL, most certainly does not belong in games. I don't know why you have a problem with Maple Story 2 being a game designed for young players, or why you are so beligerant about it, is Dofus also a game you have problems with?

How was it a strawman or a political BS? So any mention at all of gay means you automatically label it as political BS? You seem to have a real big problem with writing things off/labeling things before you know anything about them.
Instead of briefly looking into the 2 games i mentioned to see if my point had any merit you just wrote it off as being political and a strawman. You're a wonderful person to converse with.
I think it is not a child's game. Children could play it too but the chat is not really moderated so not advisable for young kids.
Just looking at the art style and then deciding the game is a kids game is a bit shallow because many adults play this. In fact I think it has a pretty solid adult population, the first game I mean that is what I am referring to of course when making my point.

I really have no interested in engaging in identity politics, its just fake, you brought the gay thing into this argument, no idea why as its a totally irrelevant subject and nothing to do with the game in question. Why you feel so threatened by a game, particularly one thats for children etc. perhaps you might want to think about that.

Because thats exactly what you did. If you can do that without engaging in identity politics, then even better, i will even take you seriously.

Is this a language barrier issue because I didn't say it had to do with sexuality? You said it's not a game for adults but it is one for children implying that this is a child's game (it's not) and that adults would somehow be uncomfortable or disinterested in such a childish game.
It's no more childish than any other video game and only someone insecure wouldn't play it for such reasons. You rolled in here dropping judgement bombs all over the place in a very dismissive manner. I think you're wrong. That's the long version of my comment.
It's not a language barrier issue, he's just not very bright. Doesn't understand the meaning of what you said.

I think its more of a comprehension barrier, saying a game is aimed more at the younger players, and that its a game that adults are likely to play with their children, somehow makes that a game that is only for children, yes the game is obviously aimed at a younger player, you only really have to look at it to see what demographic the developers have made the game for. That doesn't mean that older players aren't likely to play the game, just that they will inevitably be in the minority. There is nothing wrong with games being made for younger players, that their parents often get involved too makes it an enjoyable experience for both, there is a market for that type of game, Dofus was one example, and that also had a fairly large playerbase in its time.

I play alot of games nearly every MMO to date , at least all the ones that interest me .. Maplestory did not .. And looking over Maplestory 2 .. It most definitley looks to be targeting a younger audience .. There is nothing wrong with that .. why are folks getting upset by that .. the Rainbows ,Unicorns . Wiily Wonka , Barney like theme they are putting out there dictates that .. That being said .. i did sign up for the CB as my 7 year old is hoping to play it , and i will sit with him and help him .. It looks like something he will enjoy .. So hoping its a good game , fun watchjing your kid , get into the genre ..He also enjoys Wizard and Pirate 101 which also obviously Target a younger audience , none of this means that an adult cant enjoy some of the game .. Or enjoy it with there kid .. which in all honesty is the best game going

You can tell a lot about a game from the graphics, in the case of Maple Story 2, the characters look none threatening, they are 'cute' they look like they will appeal to younger players in a fun way, its that kind of thing that will help sell the game to those players, to give an example, there was a test carried out on some kids recently involving a yoghurt that i won't name, the children were asked to choose which yoghurt tasted best, the yoghurt cartons were different, one had a particular cartoon figure on, and the other did not, predominantly the children indicated they liked the cartoon one best, despite the fact that both yoghurt cartons contained the exact same yoghurt. Graphics are an important part of the 'sell' particularly when it comes to games, so using a particular style or aesthetic to target a certain type of player demographic is just intelligent marketing .

Because the only thing, literally the only thing you're basing that off of is the graphics of the game. That's just fucking ludicrous to me.
Well , honestly , thats enough to turn me off... I also wont buy a Barney shirt and stretch my way into it .. And again the only thing im basing that off of is the look .. Why you have a problem with that .. I dont have a problem with you wanting to wear that shirt .. Its your choice .. I choose not to
We're talking about making a decision solely based off graphic style, not about content. You don't buy Barney shit because you know the content of Barney and you 100% can say that was made for kids.
Graphically wise, there's no difference between hentai and anime(maybe some technical differences but i hope you understand my point). See my point? Looking at graphics alone is one of the most retarded things a gamer can do imo.
You're entitled to your opinion that a graphic style doesn't suit you, if that's all you said we wouldn't be having this back and forth. It's one thing to say you don't like a graphic style, its entirely another to say a graphic style is meant for kids or "aimed at kids" or "marketed towards kids". You can only make that conclusion based on the content of the game, and so far the content of MS2 is not much different from most other themepark MMOs. There's dungeons, raids, gear to farm, pvp, etc.
So if you think MS2 aimed for kids, then you must think the same of WoW and ESO, etcetc. Unless you think graphics alone decide whats meant for kids and whats meant for adults. Do you?
Is this a language barrier issue because I didn't say it had to do with sexuality? You said it's not a game for adults but it is one for children implying that this is a child's game (it's not) and that adults would somehow be uncomfortable or disinterested in such a childish game.
It's no more childish than any other video game and only someone insecure wouldn't play it for such reasons. You rolled in here dropping judgement bombs all over the place in a very dismissive manner. I think you're wrong. That's the long version of my comment.

So the look puts me off right away , why do you have a problem with that ..See my point ..
Lol and yes kids have dungeons and raids gear to farm yehhh in there games .. See Wizard 101 .. This kind of content does not affect an ESRB rating ..
What does and what indicates what demograph a developer is targeting is ...
Umm Maplestory 2 will have an "E " Everyone ESRB just as Maplestory does .. Because .. wait for it .. They want to be Able to target a younger audience and there Content is devoloped with that demographic in mind ..
Umm Wow has a "T" Teen rating because of... Language,Blood , Gore , Alcohol, Scantily Clad Characters, Provacative Dance etc .. all examples of Content that you wont see in MS2 ..
and ESO has a "M" Mature Rating .. Because of all the reasons above and MORE its Content is not suitable for young audiences .. ..

Lol, he broke out the ESRB ratings oh boy. Welp, guess that means adults shouldn't be playing WoW, once you're a teen its over.
Well you realize it means T teen+ does that need explaining ..
Now
back to MS2 they are getting an E everyone , because that is there
target demographic which will have a direct effect on Advertising,
Marketing, Toys , Clothing, Books ,TV Advert channels and Time slots .. etc anything they Brand now with MS2
, And why it effects the CONTENT they are developing ..
never let the facts get in the way of your perceived truth

Do you even listen to yourself? "You realize it means T teen+" But yet E means its for kids?
If i have to directly spell it out for you i will, i thought my sarcastic comment before was enough but apparently it wasn't. E just means suitable for all ages. It does not mean its for kids. E stands for everyone. Not kids.

lol wow ... just wow .. It means its suitable for small children .. and up yes .. but it also means none of the other ratings are suitable for small children .. amazing that this needs explaining ..
But you seem triggered by this .. i think they have hit there target audience ..

None of the ESRB ratings have ceilings. Only floors. You're arbitrarily assigning a ceiling to something that has no ceiling.
Just adding some more into what you said, from 10 or 12 years old, I already bumped in some kids that know all kinds of stuff that they shouldn't, kids that curse, speak with some racism tone (and I'm almost sure some of them don't even know what they are talking about) and all kind of useless things that they learn, either be from internet or their daily lives.
These things above will for sure be apparent in this game's chat, and actually, no matter what game it is, be it a game with "adult graphics" or "childish graphics".

As others pointed out, labeling games by graphics, no matter how they are directed to a certain demographic group, is of no use on internet, if it was a SP game I would partially agree.

I don't know why you have a problem with Maple Story 2 being a game designed for young players, or why you are so beligerant about it, is Dofus also a game you have problems with?
Instead of briefly looking into the 2 games i mentioned to see if my point had any merit you just wrote it off as being political and a strawman. You're a wonderful person to converse with.

Graphics are an important part of the 'sell' particularly when it comes to games, so using a particular style or aesthetic to target a certain type of player demographic is just intelligent marketing .
