Yeah but is Worlds Adrift the something different they want?

You would have to ask they.

I just know its yet another game that has tried to be something different from the wow clone.

Add it to the list with games like Darkfall, Mortal Online, Albion Online, Shroud Of The Avatar, Life Is Feudal, Project Gorgon and Pathfinder.

But then the similarities are more in that those games launched sort of "less than".

I'm not saying that any of those would have been runaway hits and I "think" Albion actually launched in reasonably decent shape but the other games just aren't there as far as polish and quality.

We would have to point to an indy game that had the same polish as a themepark game in order to at least guage whether or not they fail because of content/design or whether they fail (even with smaller audiences) because they are under cooked.

Even Albion, if memory serves, is a forced perspective mmorpg. That right off the bat is going to turn people off.

edit: I should add that it looks like a very beautiful game at least.

i think it costs $35 to buy into it. I'll just wait awhile, but i've decided to keep it on my radar, it does look like a cool game.

If you think it's a cool game, then make your case for why you think people ought to play it.  Don't just ask why no one else has bothered to do so.
He's starting a conversation about the game, what difference does it fucking make?
Because most of the people he's asking who haven't played the game know nothing about it and don't care to find out anything about it.

It's like saying "why haven't more people been to vero beach?"  with follow ups of "is it just too cool? does it have too much water?  do they like to stick to  land too much?"

I dunno... sounds like vero beach might have water?

If Worlds Adrift was a great game that people didn't know about, then this would be an opportunity to tell people about it, instead we just find out that it's not particularly great, and a niche title, hence why more people aren't playing it.

Cryomatrix, the early access launch on steam is Thursday, and it's coming with a price drop, I'm pretty sure. I think (not 100% sure) $25 gets you in the door, with some bonus cosmetics available with a higher tier purchase.

There's the answer to the thread title.  Or at least that's my answer.  A game that is going the early access route and isn't even there yet is rarely worth discussing.

    They don't have the resources...

So they go full wishbone and hope that by giving each player something pointy, it'll magically turn them into gold egg laying geese that create dynamic and interesting player interactions that will keep the community going for years.

I remember some medium to big streamers streamed it on twitch a while ago I think when it progressed to beta.  It looks like a fun game for a short time especially while playing with friends and exploring, but it seemed to lack longevity.

Based on what I watched on some of the streamers, they probably changed a lot of this by now but at the time it only took like 1-2 weeks to reach end game and it was easy for anyone to boost you by giving all the designs or ship parts for higher tiers.  Pvp existed but combat was limited to a pistol (though the grappling hook movement is cool, like attack on titan) and ship cannons which only varied in fire rate and damage.  It seemed pretty difficult to destroy a ship and there was little risk for dying since resources are pretty abundant and a new decked out ship could be built within an hour.  So there was little risk or reward.  After breaking through all the "wall" types between zones and collecting the best tier designs, the end game was to mess around, grind more to create some cool ship designs or explore all the player created islands (the creator is free btw) the devs rotate out every major patch.  All of those got old pretty fast when there wasn't enough variety or content to keep players moving towards some goal.

@ Kyleran, skadad & anyone else who's interested...

When i first started playing WA I would have fully agreed with you, but nearly two weeks in and i know very differently,  First off name a MMORPG that doesn't have "griefing elitist trash community" and i'll say that's your favorite game and that it also has a griefing elitist trash community as well,  no different than any other mmo game, as for controls and bad behavior, well the first time a new player comes into the game and spends time gathering resources and building there first ship to go exploring the different zones only to have some higher tier ship show up and start shooting there hard earned new ship into the abyss, of course they scream blue murder into the wind after them and call them griefers and a few other choice words, it's at this time they turn in to the rage quitter or they learn that the game is not about owning one ship for as long as you can but about learning how to make better ships to last long enough that you can keep exploring to earn more knowledge points to unlock skills that let's you make an even better ship that will sooner than later let you take on the higher tier ships, for a full description of what and how to play this game properly look up the guide on steam written by the player Shade the Wanderer.

But in short excluding games that you think of as having a griefing elitist trash community, will pretty much exclude you playing any mmorpg that has any form of pvp in it and that has come out in the last 10 years.

Those that have a bad behavior in this game are usually the newbies who don't know how to play properly yet, this game does have a really good and friendly helpful community, but you do have to learn to be a part of it, in some regards it is a real roleplaying community and if you don't get how to play the part, well you either get bored and leave or rage quit and leave.

On a last note, personally i think this is the game everyone wished Sea of thieves was.

    redcap036 aka JagerWulf66

You have totally lost me here, you keep saying how this is no different from any other MMO game. You are wrong, every MMO does not have a "griefing elitist trash community"; you are wrong in thinking that every MMO with "any form of PvP" in the last ten years has a community like that.

I don't know how much more wrong you could be, in MMOs where only certain zones are PvP, or you have to be PvP tagged, in every RvR I have known that is not the case. Yes you get some, but they don't form the community of griefing lovers you are talking about because there is not enough of them. Those games are not designed sufficiently to their liking, they go elsewhere like Worlds Adrift.

I would like to hear from our more vocal posters in this thread about the joys of such game play. Presumably there is enough "FEAR" here for you, if this does it for you, by all means tell us. But I would then have to say you do have a MMO home, and seem to come across as if there is no MMO around for you.
Yer by your comments here I get the impression that you spend more time here in the forums than actually playing games,  as for the "griefing elitist trash community" if you can't see this or find them in any mmo style game, then you're either in one and don't want to believe your group is one, "griefing elitist trash community" exist in all walks of society from the clicky groups in high school to the water cooler group at work and they are definitely in mmorpg's, i have found them in games like WoW, necron 2, LOTRO, EVE, Perfect world, WoT, Warthunder, just to name a few, Claiming Worlds  Adrift is some sort of terrorist haven for griefers, while all other MMO's are a lawful and well mannered community of some sort of christian goodnest is just crap, it makes you look like you have some personal beef against the game, or you may have taken an offence at what i said about, "griefing elitist trash community" and thought that your fav gaming community group was included in that reference, either way Worlds Adrift has a normal community just like yours does, we have our jerks that like to screw around with other players in the game and we have our good players that help and want the community to strive and get stronger, again I suggest that you seek out the Shade the Wanderer's guide to world's adrift called, "Shade’s Tips for Being Pirated" if you really want to know what and how this game works.

As for more vocal posters, you could also try heading over to Twitch in a day or so when the game comes out of wipe and goes into early access and chat with the streamers who will be playing the game, they will more than happily answer any questions about the game and that, "style of game play for you."

For me I simply didn't care for some of the mechanics like the swinging around on ropes.  I think they fell into the trap of putting too much time into 'unique' features, leaving staples not there or unfinished.  If I want a pvp mmo I expect more of the actual pvp to be fleshed out better, and not get cut at the expense of stuff like swinging on ropes or the extensive ship building which they put a huge amount of time into.

Indeed, I do not see any long term goals like territory control, clan wars, trade wars, something above the - build a ship - explore.
Give it two days and look again, lot's of new stuff being added when it goes early access, including territory control..

As a player of the game, I'm not certain why there's not much talk about the game here. Maybe it's too sandbox? Maybe they don't have a sidebar image with tig-ole-bitties to get you interested? Maybe most gamers here enjoy the WoW experience more than open world sandbox PvP?

I'd love to know what the deal is. It's the best MMO available in my opinion, kind of like Sky-Rust on a single large server. It has those meaningful combat elements on an MMO scale. But it doesn't have NPCs to tell you where to go and what to do.

Anyway; what is keeping you from checking it out?

    That's an easy one.
The game is meh, there is better on the market and the full loot pvp thing is not a great seller either.

First off no cares about your own personal policies of what you only will play blah blah etc.. and if that's the case wouldn't wait for another six to seven months first then try the game and then come back here and complain about it and not be here now making dumb accusations about it.

I don't know if there are planning any more wipes.

I am on here more than normal as I am "between MMOs" :)

I have no beef against Worlds Adrift, indeed I think I started a thread months back asking posters what they thought of it as it really looked interesting. But the PVP just sounded not for me. I hope other love it, this is not about bashing the game.

Where I want to pull you up is you recon Lotro has the sort of grieifing WA has. Lotro is not open world PvP, you have to create a special avatar just to play on the side of Sauron. This is about game design, how can they be the same?

Well looking at the hostility presented by many of the people defending or promoting the game you have at least one of your answers as to why no one's playing it.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.
