SWG isn't that bad

SWG is very different now - been playing it since release in europe - but it is not bad, not bad at all as it is today. the new tutorial is great, playing speed is high (avatar moves very quickly; vehicles, available right from the start move very fast); you can build own houses; there's an endless number of missions; the bazaar system is total fun; there's fast character progress to higher levels; crafting and/or fighting is lot of fun; the world is HUGE and the possibilities are endless. If you're a STAR WARS fan you will love the game forever. I think veterans that spent endless (i.e. thousands...) hours in creating their jedi-char (or those who unlocked other very difficult to get items or skills...) and  hardcore RPG players (who play 8-12 hrs a day ?) are the ones to be upset, (seems they didn't want to allow "average"players e.g. to try out a jedi-char? - there are not ONLY JEDIS on the servers now:)

There's news to the game every few days and the latest publish 28 brings more exciting features. I really DON'T understand all these complaints! Take a look at new MMORPGs like the brand new face of mankind and compare the games! (or other MMORPGs with SF-setting). Or just quit and go play WOW. It doesn't help SWG to tell all people not to play it.

Don't believe the negative hype - SWG is very well worth a look!

    My Rating would be a 9.0 !

Hmm could very well be a joke, seems he (or she) just joined this site today. My guess would be a SOE employee.

how can all you ex-players with now non-active accounts judge about the present situation in SWG? Or you still online every day? still not found a better game to play? still listening to disappointed players trying to destroy SWG?

Actually, SOE is doing a darn fine job of destroying SWG, they certainly don't need our help...but if they need another match....

My rating would be different. Namely, 0%.

See, i ran your text through fake paper detector. While intended for scientific papers, it does decent job on written material. It came through as confirmed INAUTHENTIC. I also tried on some other posts here on these same forums, and they at least get a 35% or higher score.

Which simply means, your post is pre-calculated, buzzword compliant, hype influenced piece of synthetically composed material.

It doesn't mean anything, but it is not your opinion. It is PR generated fluff, just like all the 10/10 reviews on various sites.

maybe SOE should have discontinued the game (like AC2) and instead of the NGE they would bring a brand new SWG2 in "january 2007" that would look like the game as it is today. everything ingame would have been lost and everyone would have to start from scratch. "sorry, we didn't have enough subscribers...". even pc-games-magazines said SWG "had to be changed". maybe players who didn't play the game "before" can have fun with the new game nevertheless.

First thing you've said that actually makes sense.

Most of us agree that this NGE crap may have some virtues to it.  And it would certainly have an it's own playerbase.  God knows that I wouldn't have bought it...  But others might have if it was advertised as such since day one!  But as it is, the game was changed "mid-flight".  I loved this game, but it was taken away from me to be given to another demographic.

PC gamer rated SWG after NGE with 17% or something like that. I lost the link.

Killing the game, and announcing a PS3 version coming out in january 2007 would be ethical.

Alas, everyone still subscribing is just beta testing for consoles, being led around by false promises, using the same strategies that have worked for SOE since days of EQ.

AC2 had their CU btw. It went against the original design (which was closer to pre-cu). It was not only not enough to save the game, but only alienated the existing players, who, despite saying game could use improvement, didn't exactly accept the changes.

  • hotwindhotwind Member Posts: 6

okok didnt know about AC2 except it was stopped (which i hope swg will not be); german pc magazines rated SWG NGE better than pre-cu. well i hope SOE does its best to change the game in a way most players like. The mmorpg world needs a star wars game :) and i really loved swg then but still love to play it now.

    1) Can I play my rifle/ranger Wookiee?

    2) Can my Mon Cal make Buff packs and have players wait in line for me and pay a stupid sick amount of money to get buffed?  Can that same Mon Cal play music to sooth a warriors weary (Black Rot)  mind?

    3) Is my crafter Mon Cal useful to me with all the uberloot that drops these days?

    4) Can my Jedi be overpowered again like a jedi should be?  HE'S A FREAKIN JEDI!!!!!  And if no jedi then can he go back to being a Fencer/Pistoller or Commando/Tka or anything else I CHOOSE HIM TO BE?  Can his alt be a MBH/MCM?

4 accounts and different styles of gameplay that I loved that are not available in the NGE.  This game was about all about the freedom to choose - that it is what made it special and unique that is what we all loved and miss.

If they're gonna force a half-assed version of WoW (in a STARWARS wrapper) down my throat then I will just go play WoW.

Hmm, well here is the present "situation" with SWG with some past history....

SOE releases a bug-filled game with huge potential in July 2003. They make many promises which go unfufilled. Veterans start to quit so SOE's pr machine goes into swift mode and sends out emails hyping the all new jedi system to come (village) and the combat revamp (notice i didnt say upgrade). Many like me decide to come back and give the game a shot because frankly the potential is there for a great game.

A year goes by and still no combat revamp so more veterans leave the game. Finally 2 years after the game launched we get the combat upgrade and many thousands quit in disgust. Why...well because it wasnt what we were promised. The developers decided to go after the World of Warcraft crowd by dumbing the game down and it failed miserably.

The game continues to spiral downward so SOE decides to sink even lower. They start to develop the NGE in secret. Ethically and morally this is about as sleazy as you can get. Why...well because SOE is using current player subscription money to make a totally new game that SOE even admits wont appeal to them. In essence they are stealing money from us to attempt to make even more money off potential new players.

During the 6 months post cu (while the NGE is being developed) we are told fixes are coming. Players ask about the beloved Force Ranking System and are told its being worked on and just waiting on approval from LA before it gets implemented. Several profession revamps are talked about including some mention of droid engineers getting another look at. Little did we know that devs like Blistex think droid engineers shouldnt even be in the game but rather droids as a player race instead.

As a last ditch effort to grab a few more dollars from us, they sell us the Mustafar expansion. Two days after it launches we get told about the NGE.

So what we vets are doing here is warning others to stay away from SOE. The company to include its parent corportation Sony is in a downward spiral and its best to avoid firms like this who plant spyware on our PC's via BMG's cd's. SOE stole our money and they'll steal yours too.

SOE is nothing more than the Enron of the gaming world.

I will try the game again when SOE apoligizes, and reimburses me my $30 a month (2 accounts) for 2 years. I will come back when the game isn't a beta, and is finished. I will come back when Julio Torres doesn't treat his customers like excrement from an insect. He was asked 2 times in the HOC chat about the old interface both times his answers were disdainful, snotty, and completely inflamatory. He and the rest of SOE still don't listen to the fan base like they should. They try implement things that are nothing close to what the players ask for, and when they get pissed they say well you guys wanted that. There is no communication, between devs and players at all. It's as bad if not maybe a little worse than last year.
I will come back when everyone is not a cookie cutter version of everyone else in that class. I will come back when traders and entertainers are worth something. Oh wait didn't i see that they were going to make them secondary classes? So much for the people that liked this game for crafting they're stepping on them too. I will come back when they add SEA's again, and no this augmented clothing and armor crap. Just what I want mismatched crap so I look like a reject out of the 70's. I will come back when they make combat last longer than 6 seconds. I will come back when the finally add a target lock (thought it was in PUB 28, but it's not in the notes). I will come back when they fix the targeting of your items in the house.

I will come back if Julio and Smed leave the game alone. Heck I would even come back if the two of them would answer real questions from fans. Not the fluff piece on G4TV or anything else I've seen, I want to know why they don't listen, why they would sacrifice us long term players for the ADD teeny boppers they wanted, who woud drop the game in a month.

Well i guess that's enough for now, think they will get the hint? I don't!

The rest of us might not get the same fun out of those 2 games

Well first off. Most of the people here, have canceled there SWG subscriptions So your just quit and plow WoW thing is moronic! Second of all we don't wanna play WoW we wanted our game back. If we wanted to play WoW we wouldn't have stuck with SWG and SOE until the ass raped us!

Now on to all these complaints... Well picture this you're from europe... Let's say you play cricket for a company team. You're playing and played well for two years, then one day your manager comes to you and says We can't use you anymore, you're off the team. We've been developing a secret team in Cuba for the past 2 years, and you and all your buddies can get out, we don't want you. Now if that happened wouldn't you complain?

Now as for the game being huge and a lot to do... i beg to differ. When you log in now what do you have to do... quests! You have to other wise you can't advance. When I logged in Pre-CU and Post CU. I could do anything I wanted! I could go hunting any of 300 different species. I could collect resources for my crafter, kill krayts, rancors, night sisters. Hell I could go and kill jawas, and ewoks just for kicks. I could sit in a cantina and socialize. But now... QUESTS! oh yippeee....

Well Mr. SOE plant I hope you get what you wanted.

well it wasn't my intention to say the pre-cu version was not good. i played it for many many hours, many months (the account has been active since then), at a time i didn't have a DSL connection and it used up hours of updating the game but i did it cause i loved the game. then things changed and now with the NGE i can spend just 30 min in the game and do missions for fun. i see how other people loved the pre-cu version, i hardly dare to say i still can have some fun with the game.

It was the lazy I-want-everything-but-won't-work-for-it crowd that destroyed SWG. Most of them are running around as " Jedi" today. They finally got their Jedi toon for free. Soon and with enough whining, they'll get NS biceps, Endor helmets and I'm sure googles too if they whine hard enough.
