How anyone can say D3 is not about doing the same thing all the time is beyond me. All there is is rifts and oh yeah everyone's favorite - bounties! There isn't even any farming in the game as every single thing is RNG so it doesn't matter what you do you have the same chances of getting an item you may be looking for everywhere. Even if you play seasons after 2 weeks all you're doing is grinding mainstat. Oh what fun!
Grim Dawn is far to repetitive. Got bored quickly with this one. Not even in the same league as Diablo 3.
While it isn't and can't be in the same league as Diablo(really nothing can, just look at the number of people that worked on GD and Diablo: 20 vs 1000), it is good in its own ways. Regardless, what did you find repetitive and boring?
There was little variation to gameplay. Locations all felt the same. It felt like repeating everything over and over again. It was like i was doing the exact same thing at 10 hours as i was doing in every preceding hour.
And D3 differs from that how?
D3 uses randomization in layout even in world zones- as far as I can tell GD has the same world layout every playthrough. The enemies all seem very generic and repetitive as well.
Games like this could benefit from an optional global chat system even for single player playthroughs. It would make things feel less lonesome

Layout randomization in D3 is pretty minimal. Hardly worth singling that out as a feature.

I own and play D3, POE, Victor Vran, Van Helsing and Grim Dawn. I don't play them regularly but do go back to them occasionally. I go back to Grim Dawn much more often than any of the others.
Pro tip: when you're first starting out and learning about the game, it's hard to beat a Vitality Conjurer, Just start off as a Shaman, level up Devouring Swarm and just a level 1 Briarthorn (set it to aggressive) to bunch up mobs for you. Pick up Occultist and Sigil of Consumption later on and just mow things down while you heal yourself.
There's a lot of build depth and you'll want to try many other things after that but Vitality Conjurers are easy street when you start.
They nerfed 1pt wonder pets just because of this. Now you've to invest into them, but they've even higher power ceil than before. Regardless, yeah. That is wicked powerful. Level Swarm, Vines, Sigil, Briarthorn and the disease(what's its name?) for ultra easy mode. Blood of Dreeg and Shaman buff alongside Sigil heal you for more than you need. But don't go recommending this to new players, yeah? Because they'll fall into the state of shock once they try something different.
And I didn't even mention the Lightning totem converted to Vitality
