It is upsetting that Lucas doesn't care...

(Please excuse my puncuation.)

When I was a kid, (I'm 18) and I first saw the Star Wars movies during the 1990's, I was captivated.  Just like I'm sure everybody here was as well.  I use to play The Super Star Wars games back on my Snes, and they were really great games, and they felt exactly like Star Wars. Again, I was captivated.

Now I went on playing several other Star Wars games. (Rogue Squadron,Shadows of the empire,Dark forces, etc) From playing such great games, I always held the belief that George Lucas really cared about his fans, That he must have made sure that Lucas Arts Guranteed a certain amount of quality. I mean, yeah sure their were games that flopped. But never was their a flop as big as what Galaxies has become.  No matter what crappy gameplay, or graphics, etc. The game always held somewhat true to the Star Wars universe.

I know, there is controversy where Lucas just makes up the events that happen in the Star Wars universe, Some of this seems very true when you watch the special features on the prequel DVDs. but I was under the impression that he really appreciated his fans, I remember reading a semi-recent article on Episode III about Lucas accepting an award. (I'm not sure which, considering he isn't apart of the whole Oscar movie industry empire)  and him saying something along the lines of "This is why I make the movies, Not for the critics, but for the fans" something like that.

I'm dragging this on a bit, so let me just get to the point.  My spirit is truly crushed, That he obviously doesn't care about the products that go out under his name. I know he doesn't have anything to lose, lets face it the guy has the rest of his life and his children's children lives, and their children's children lives, Basically set for them, But I am really shocked that such a  steaming hunk of crap, that Star Wars Galaxies has become, is still a remaing a warm steaming hunk of crap!

I wish I could write a letter to him expressing my anger for how he has abandoned his fans. Especially in something they have been waiting so long for. To enjoy and live the Star Wars universe.  What Star Wars Galaxies has become is not the Star Wars universe. if I was Lucas, I would be ashamed. I know he won't give a damn if I did write a letter. Hell, he would never even read it. What am I do? what are any of us to do? nothing!

I'd like to apologize, that I couldn't exactly articulate what I really wanted to say. Its really a shame that the money hungering corperation Lucas said he didn't want to become, Is what he has become. (He said this in the orignal triliogy bonus dvd if anyone wanted to know)

Comments? Flames?

I hope someone out there is as baffled as I am.

If Lucas cared more about Star Wars than his own ego and bank balance he'd have had a decent script writer pen the scripts for EP 1-3. Instead of feeding his ego and doing a bodge job of it himself, during EP 3 I didn't know wether I was watching Scary Movie 5 or Naked Gun 4 1/4!

it is a shame, its a massive shame, that SWG has become what it has. Whats more I dont see a way back from this, I really dont. I just think its about time to call it a day with galaxies. Then make another mmo, but this time know what you want to do with it. Then make it, and stand by it polish it and then it should not fail.

    but what do i know.....

Yup, I'm telling GL how I feel about the "refinements" he made on the DVD versions of eps 4-6 by not buying them.

I didn't know about the deleted kiss part, though.  That's BS.

Well, Leia is Luke's sister. Of course, this part was only written, after the part 4 was already out. I wouldn't put any money on it, but one version of the movie I've seen, lacked that scene. Not sure which release it was, but I know it cought my eye, especially because of the "incest" implications, that only apeared in retrospect. The scene is even more detailed in ep4 book, and could even be considered disturbing, with the knowledge of brother/sister relationship.

Yes it would be disgusting in retrospect, but tell me that none of you have ever dated a girl and kissed her then found out you were cousins on some level. Yeah you get wierded out but at the time it was no big deal cause you didn't know.

Also it was just a kiss. It may have been a little passionate but not much. Mothers kiss there sons, a peck if you will, all the time and on the lips. a concept i've always found kinda gross as well. The point is later they were all brother and sisterly not like, oh I still love you and want your baby.I always thought of that as being pretty important too. It shows how they really didn't know they were related, and acts as an atagonist to Han that sort of pushes them together by makeing him a little jealous.

Ive seen every single version of every Star Wars movie except the 1st theatrical releases, I wasnt born then. Ive seen the origional VHS versions, the THX Mastered re-released VHS versions that came out in the early-mid 90's, the Special Edition in theaters and on VHS's that came out in the late 90's, TV versions that have rarely came on, and the recently released DVD versions, and the kiss is in every single version, at the bridge and in the Hoth med center. I dont know what movie you saw that had no kiss.

Thinking back, I believe it was TV. Either sattelite or cable. And some of those do have extra censorship. So yea, I could have been wrong, and it was not GL.

I could understand it being snipped on tv or cable. It was probably on some tightassed republican owned channel. Btw not turning this into a political debate nor do I want it to, Id rather bitch about swg than stupidass politics anyday.

George has proven repeatedly over the years that he cares about nothing but money.   I have no problem with people making money, I like money, its a good thing.  But when it becomes the end all and be all of your existence, well...thats just sad.   His fortune was vast way before he prostituted his legacy for a few more solid gold yoda statues.

Well written and articulated, op. I feel exactly the same. I tell myself he doesn't know, couldn't possibly know, or he would fix things.  But with the many articles published in well respected news sources, he must know and somehow not care what has been done to what was an amazing game.  None of it makes any sense at all.

PS3.  That's the ONLY way any of it makes sense.  Some smacktard at SCEA (sony computer entertainment of america) decided that they needed a big name MMO for release of PS3.  So, someone who aparrently can sell refrigerators to eskimos convinced LA execs that they'd make TONS of money if they could port SWG to PS3.  Then they just had Smed's boss tell him to "make it so."
That's the only reason that LucasArts or GL would let all the bad press and crap continue.  Some moron convinced them that they'd make tons of money when PS3 is released.
I can't wait to see who gets fired when SWG is released for PS3 and it flops.

Console gamers would tear this game apart.  If this game gets released for PS3 with the amount of bugs it has now, and probably more by the time the PS3 is released if the SWG trend continues the way it has since it was released, then this game will not even stand a chance on PS3.  I know SOE would like that market, but there is no way this game would survive in the console world - it's barely able to survive on the PC market, but PC gamers have a higher tolerance for buggy games it seems.

I'm starting to think that he is surrounded by a bunch of incompetent "happy-go-nodders" that just agree to anything and are totally "oh-so-cluelessly-positive-and-optimistic-and-don't-read-dissenting-opinions-anyways" people.
