When Origin PC agreed to build me a custom MMORPG.com themed tower, I about had a heart attack. I’ve been playing with Origin PCs at conventions since what seems forever. My old self-built tower was definitely getting long in the tooth, and I’d been looking for what my next step would be. The planets aligned, and here I am showing off this brand new AMD Ryzen 7 2700 powered beast.

I'll take the Gamespace version *giggles* or that what is slotted for the laptop? Make it happen Origin! Looks amazing, congrats Bill. Well deserved and great looking set up!

I look forward to hearing how well it holds up after a year or more. I've bought several custom built computers over the years from both iBuyPower and CyberPowerPC and they have all had some kind of hardware issue after a year or more (mother board, ram, fans, liquid cooling, etc).

I've been considering just buying my next gaming PC from a name brand company, but I'd be curious to see how your Origin PC holds up.

YMMV: I am about to retire a 4 yr old iBuyPower pc that has had zero problems.

The prebuilt companies just charge to much for what I could do myself.

I feel the same way. I'll probably do upgrades to this for as long as I can, but then go with Origin when I have to shell out for my next one in 3-5 years.

I personally don't see the point of paying an extra 10%-50% more for a brand.

Built my PC by myself and by that I mean I asked on a computer forum for people to offer me parts/configs for the budged I had than I picked the best bought all the parts from 1 place except for the card cause I found that on a promo at another price. Because I bought everything from 1 place I got about 10% discount + they put everything together and all I had to do is put in the card. 3 years later I haven't had a single issue.

I've had my OriginPC since 2014 and it's still running well. I upgraded the graphics card recently just to play newer games better, but the old one was working fine. I had a computer guy out to fix something I screwed up by playing with BIOS stuff (boo, bad idea). In the process he told me that I think he said the motherboard might die in 6 months or so? I forget what it was, but something he said would die and need replacing, but that it could be done and the rest of the PC would continue to work fine. So for now I'm making sure to backup regularly and if and when that happens, I'll be ready and can just have him fix that. It'll certainly be cheaper than buying a new PC and will ensure my current PC lasts for a few more years.

In short, Origin PC is a good choice if you're a dedicated gamer who will be playing games regularly for years to come and thus can justify the price. And they do have normal sized towers. I forget which one mine is but it's almost standard PC tower size and fits into my desk that had a computer tower slot built in. It's also something small enough that I can pick up myself if need be. Some of the larger towers get a little nuts.

Yes I'd say something like OriginPC is better for those of us who aren't as tech savvy. :) I will say though from my own experience that if I could do it over, I would run the parts by a computer savvy friend first.

    Thanks for sharing you're experience.

The last 2 gaming PC's I bought (again, not from Origin) have been the full towers, and I didn't realize how big they would be! While under warranty, I had to mail one back in for repair to fix a liquid coolant leak, and it was $140+ just for shipping.

I'm not going to be buying a 40 lb monster the next time around.

A good warranty covers the cost of shipping, both ways.

Not a bad rig, but 16GB of RAM is light, my 4 year old gaming laptop has that, my next one will be 32GB for sure.

I wouldn't say 16GB is light, maybe standard, and currently still adequate for playing games, though with all the multi-tasking mentioned in the article more would be useful. At least that is the area they went lighter on, much easier to add a couple more sticks than to upgrade to the 11GB GPU or 1TB ssd.

Totally jealous, but happy for Bill.

I like the Origin stuff. It’s just always expensive when I plug the parts into pcpartpicker and see what I can build it for myself.

Unless you really multitask a lot 16gb is more than enough.   No game needs that much.

Though this is a great PC, prefer Falcon Northwest's Tiki as Origin's are way too big while the Tiki can do the same thing in 1/3 of the size and each one I have had are impeccably built....not to mention I love the support I've received from them as well as it feels very personalized. Mine work great with an MMO, RPGs on the highest settings for Witcher 3, etc.

Eh, I bought a premade computer for my son to do school on and play World of Warcraft, but to be fair, a potato could run World of Warcraft at this point.

I priced out the parts separately, and once I had added in the Windows operating system and the headache that would be attempting to make it not be a garbage hindrance, I just decided to go prebuilt. Not a bad little system for $500. It only has 8GB of RAM, but that is easily upgraded. It has an FX6300 processor and a GTX 1050 2GB videocard. Did some benchmark testing on it and theoretically, it should run at close to "ultra" settings at around 50-70FPS. Future upgrades are made easy, perhaps a FX 8350, more RAM, and a larger videocard as soon as the cryptomining fad dies down a bit (seems to be happening now). I just ordered it, so I hope it will do the trick for him for at least a few years....then, he'll be old enough to get a damned job and buy his own computers.....

Again, if I had been creating my own gaming rig and had an unlimited source of money for it, none of what is inside this Origin "gaming" PC would be in mine I don't think. I'd definitely fo with an i9, 32 GB of fast ram (3000mhz likely....maybe some dominator). A GTX 1080ti or perhaps a couple of Titans. I realize that even if I build that myself, the cost would be like double the price of this system, but if I had Origin build it, it would be 4x.

I don't hate on them, though. I know quite a few people who splurged on the old Origin systems and are happy as clams with them.
