I know everyone says this game sucks, but i just watched like all of the gameplay videos and i dont see how thats possible. I just honestly dont... But if it does i'll just have to find out for myself. This game looks incredible, and im sad to say i never played it when it first came out.. But now im going to give it a try, wish me luck!

Well, I do wish you the best of luck. But its just hard not to warn you of the horrors that await you. At the very least only commit yourself to a one month sub. that way you wont get soaked when you run from the computer screaming.
Dont say you werent warned. Now go forth and learn for yourself young padawan.

It might be able to entertain you for a short while...but...

Someone tell me whats so wrong with it? Like how can they "mess" up such a huge game, i jus cant fathom that. Explain to me like what they did that makes it so bad now.. Maybe you will change my mind in the next 25 minutes
Cuz from reading all the posts, and stuff, it seems like they screwed over all the old players, and made jedi a profession or somthing or another, and if thats the only case then seems to me people are just mad they got screwed over i guess.. but if thats not the case then i appologise.
The negativity you question emerges from veterans who have been mistreated by the game's management, which has been poor for the past 3 years (and some say longer). But that is not it's sole source. The NGE was designed specifically to cater to a new crowd, but even so, it's just not a good game. The NGE itself received *dismal* ratings from both fans of the game and review mags.
If you can get a free trial, by all means take a look at it. Especially if you are a Star Wars fan. You might like it, but then again, you might just come to understand the rage felt by many veterans and Star Wars fans alike.

Ill probably play it for the 10 days, go back to WOW, then wait for warhammer honestly.. but thats just me.
warharmmer will burn down anygame so far, imo
Well I just spent ten minutes typing out all my feelings on it, but when I hit enter...poof. Oh well,
Basically, they screwed the veteran players over repeatedly and in the process installed a benny hill combat system completely changing the kind of game that it is. If you play the game, you too will one day be a veteran player and if they screwed us they will screw you too. Then again, by then its likely to be an online pinball game.
There are still a few people playing, and by some accounts a few of them actually like it. So clearly, it does appeal to some. No matter how few and demented they may be.....J/K (sorry Obraik, i couldnt resist).
In the end, the only way for you to know is to try. You obviously sound curious about the game, who knows, you may like it. /shrug
Still, like I said earlier though I would not make the mistake many have of getting a multi month subscription. Good luck, and good gaming no matter which way you go with it. Let us know how it turns out. /cheers

The problem was that the game was buggy to start with and instead of fixing it they just kept changing it. Telling us one thing and doing something else.
The clincher for me was the bait-n-switch they pulled with the Trials of Obiwan expansion. They released it knowing that people would preorder it and then a couple of days later announced the horrible NGE changes. It was a deliberate con to get money. They finally had to start offering refunds to people since they started getting pressure for the BBB.
Its just flat wrong and unethical.
Gotta also point out that the trial is the most polished part of the game. And even its buggy as well.

Well for the person trying, know that there is only one real way to level, and once you get around level 40, there is no content. For about 30 levels there is nothing really to do, unless exploiting is your forte. ($OE has admitted there is no content for the majority of the game, since only the beginners and enders have content, and are planning to give content for later levels some 6 months down the line.)
In short, wait at least 6-12 months before trying SWG out again. Maybe, MAYBE it will be fully playable by that time.

As mad as SOE has made me, I will be 100% honest with you. Compared to the few other games I have tried since leaving SWG, it’s not that bad.
IT’S JUST THAT IT WAS SO MUCH BETTER BEFORE !
I guess I should be proud that they screwed it up so much, that it is no better than other games. Cause I have never been a hard core gamer and real life came first as it should.
But before NGE and certainly before CU it was so good it had taken over my life, for some of us it was so addictive. I have missed work to play it. On normal work days I would play a minimum of 8 to 10 hours, MINIMUM THAT IS, some times more. On weekends the time some of us put into it was unreal.

We need less "I'm giving SWG a try" or "SWG can't be as bad as everyone says" threads and more "OM*G I hate swg so much" or "SOE screwed up SWG bad!" threads.
That would make me feel much better.
It's like having somebody who has never tried them telling you to just stop smoking cigarettes. They have never felt the addiction, so they simply cannot understand the satisfaction it brings, and the extreme difficulty involved in giving it up. Such was the stuff of pre-CU Star Wars Galaxies.
So, for all you "new" people out there who are trying Galaxies for the first time, I hope you enjoy it (well, actually, I don't). But please understand that the whining, moaning and outright hatred many of us express on these forums is not necessarily for what SWG is today (the game you're "trying"), but what it once was and has been turned into.

As ye SOE, so shall ye weep.
Very true.
Lemme put it this way:
SWG : NGE today is a SHADOW of what the game used to be.
Think about a star athelete who was a gold medal contender. Now immagine that his trainer decided it'd be a good idea to cut off one leg and replace it with a prosthetic. Then immagine that on top of that they figured the athelete only needed one lung instead of 2 and oh... lets replace his right arm with a prosthesis as well.
That is what NGE is compared to the Pre, hell even the post-CU SWG.
The athlete is still a fairly nice person and is fun to be around because he tells cool stories about his glory days and he's adjusted to his new limitations and gets around just about as well as anyone else in the world. But for those who watched him perform before all that happened he's just a shell of his former self.
