Something that shows what SC can achieve

This video was made by a spanish guild, 50 players in a real localized FPS / Dogfighting event (the dynamic camera stuff is just a feature in-game), this absolutely shows the potential the game has on gameplay.

It's also a reminder they still have a long way to go on optimization and polishing up so the gameplay mechanics feel good. That sort of gameplay when the most needed optimizations and when they get to the polish of mechanics, shows something really unique from what we are used on the MMO genre, hence the support it continues to get. It may develop slowly but it's getting there.

Only another 10 years of CIG's development to get battles like that to the state of where Planetside was in 2012.

PS2 performance was god awful, I remember even the high-end gaming hardware struggled with it, PS2 eventually even did a whole marketing event surrounding a refactor that was all about optimization (I think the game was ridiculously CPU-bound and it bottlenecked the most powerful GPUs), then things started going well for them.

SC is also never going to be about large-scale PvP like PS2 or EvE, but with the server meshing, it should allow for situations like that vid, and that's fair enough because with higher quality visuals no ways you'll get hundreds of players/ships on-screen without getting lag-rekd even if the servers could handle it.

True that, but I don't think in Planetside you can leave the planet mid-battle and go quest, trade, mine, explore around other parts of the universe...

Oh well maybe we get them with Planetside 3 B)

    Daybreak Games? Doubtful...

If those rumors are also true then it's just yet another battle royale, because these larger publishers love to milk a genre to exhaustion, zombie survival craze all over again. <.<

Anyone else wonder at the start of the video what was allowing them to stand on that platform without floating away?

Will there be no attempt at any sort of realism with the physics, at least in space?

The landing platforms on Ollisar have gravity, I think it is in-lore as magnetic pull (as most ships) it has a small vertical range from where it pulls your character down.

You and Bab both know I had no idea about the rumours right? And even if I did I was making this thing called a joke. Should look it up sometime. All you need to do is launch Star Citizen.

I actually didn't remember already only when he linked It hit me again that PS3 being said as battle royale. But hey that's up to them but if they dare to turn Everquest into a battle royale Ima flip, that company must be on some rampage to destroy the Everquest IP for good --'

If you also add the context of an alpha build without it's optimization tech, then no.  I wouldn't call it cheap.  I'd read up on their website about how they are trying to build the most massive game to ever be created, and I'd consider what this may look like with a smooth framerate.

But, that would be using my brain.

It's Space Opera, so more abstractions are allowed.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

I wonder why magnetic boots are considered "no attempt at any sort of realism". The space suits also have cold gas maneuvering jets for attitude control.

Neither can you have a proper strategic and complicated ground fight with objectives in SC like you can have in Planetside.

The ground battles in Planetside make that video look like toddler's play.
Just like dogfights in ED make SC dogfights look like kindergardeners throwing their food around.
Just like a proper FPS like R6:Siege makes Star Marine look like a 2-hour Unity tutorial.

But I guess being able to do basic bland versions of all the above in a big map is more important for some than well done engaging gameplay.

    Each to their own.

Doing it realistically would require different animations, all sorts of conditionals, etc.  Probably easier just to use the abstraction wand on it.  There are far too many things in SC already carried too far (imo).

Though if someone wants to pitch the idea to CR, maybe he can decide to add it in (irregardless of work/delay).

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Just the fact you can compare Star Citizen alpha with those 3 games of complete different gameplays is impressive and a testment to it's ambition and how much a good deal 20$ for SC & SQ42 was  lol

Better yet, you could probably fit a handfull ofmore comparisons from other games in there of completely different genres !

That's probably the biggest compliment you could ever give to this project  :D

You can compare a stick-model-fighting game with tekken7, does not mean that the stick-game is any good. Moot point, nice try though :)
Well if you're trying to make a joke you can but I think the guy was actually being serious with it's comparisons lol

Oh and just because you don't get the point doesn't mean it automatically turns into a moot one ;)

    Nice try though :D
