What kind of guilds do you expect to see?

I know from playing other games designed by Brad that he very much sees guilds as playing an important role in the game's community.

So I'm sure there will be all sorts of guilds with all sorts of different focuses -  crafting guilds, role play guilds, friends and family guilds, and so on. But what interests me are the kind of guilds that will dominate the player landscape, at least in people taking notice of them.

Will it be large raiding guilds?

Medium sized to small (but elite) guilds focusing on "firsts" in dungeons and the like.

GW2 style mega guilds with hundreds of players who swarm over game content like locusts in pursuit of strengthening their guild numerically?

It could (and likely will) take many forms, although I'm unsure of how much raiding will be available early on.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Every type of guild you mentioned or players have ever imagined really.

Maybe not Goons, unless they do deliver on PVP ruleset servers which they mention supporting "one day" but not a lot of focus at launch perhaps.

    What Kyleran said.

This game will be no different than any other game as far as guilds.

Probably. But, for example, I remember in the period leading up to the Vanguard launch, there was discussion of having guilds operate (somehow) certain player towns or cities. I can't say whether that idea ever got implemented. But it's not something you see in every game. The only game I have played with anything like that was original SWG.

I'd love to see something like that but I don't think this game will have building.

Or even the ability to take over towns. Now, that would be an awesome thing for sure.

I hope VR's vision for guilds has room for some management improvements.  A simple way to mark alts and associate them with the main's name would clear out so many organizational headaches.  Let's see something new.  If they're going with in-game chat, make sure to touch on the in-game guild chat, with some innovative controls for locking down various protocols -- like a 'raid protocol' which determines who can speak in that channel.

If there's a guild named "Knights Who Say Ni" I'm sending a request to join immediately!

I have seen a guild called this in every game I have played. Probably not the same one.

I expect to see guilds with people in them.  They will be trying to do content together and possibly setting up for end game.  I expect guilds to migrate from another game to this one and use the same name if possible.  I expect there will be discord options, possibly teamspeak and ventrillo as well. :)

Odd that I am referring to NEO online (a game that I was very into that ended), but it would be interesting if each major area had a home guild that could have some minor taxes, and some benefits on the area depending on guild activities, etc.  Of course not all guilds would have a claimed area but the more active ones would.  The moderately active ones might try for the less favorable areas.

I mostly expect a split between casual and hardcore guilds, just like in Vanguard.
