I love the EQ franchise and played it for many years on and off but Daybreak is a shitshow as some others have mentioned here. Their intentions are purely for money now and not about the compassion for good, meaningful content. Look at all the TLP servers they continue to launch year after year for EQ1. Alllllll for $$$$. Their games are running on skeleton crews and issues that arise take forever to get fixed. Daybreak is dog shit and 100% in it for money.
It's even more damning to EQ that it's only available on PC while the other two are also on console.
a MMO would never play well on a console though...
What?
Yep, it was a weird statement considered DCUO was built for the PS3 and at launch it was a real pain to play it on PC... or that according to their own numbers it has way more players on PS4 than on PC. (for the record, I play on PC, and after the first fixes it has decent handling on here as well)
Yeah there are a plethora of mmos on consoles nowadays and some even run much better for it, like DCUO, like you said. It is a control scheme stigma I guess? which seems weird considering most mmorpgs really don't require that many buttons and many can be played with a controller even on PC. Some prejudices people can not grow out of I guess
The #1 reason I play games on PC over console is the load times. Take for example Monster Hunter Worlds, a game that has you traveling to town and to go hunt monsters. Console usually takes between 20-30 seconds to load between maps compared to 5-10 seconds on PC. It may not seem like a big deal, but when you're doing speed runs or just wanna do a quick game session it builds up over time.
Another game that comes to mind is The Witcher 3. When I started out playing on console I wasn't that great a player, so I'd die and reload A LOT. I would reload my saved game and die like 5 seconds later and then reload again which takes anywhere from 20 to 45 seconds or even longer at times if you've been putting in a long grind session. Of course as I got better I'd die less, but by that time I've already gotten too frustrated and bought the game for the PC.
I also played both games using the PS4 controller on PC. Some games are better using a controller and some are better using mouse and keyboard. But PC can do both easily, whereas playing console can be difficult at times.
