I didnt want Destiny, let alone sequels. These types of games are why I dont really play evolving games much anymore, because they dont actually evolve. Its a hoax. They toss on a fresh paint of coat over an old game and call it new. The same is happening in mmorpgs.
How much has WoW evolved? I would say that Blizzard has thrown as much out of the game as into it. Talents, lets throw them out and replace them with a new system no one wants. Lets add artifact weapons and then remove them next expansion. Why add shit at all if you are just going to remove it? Every WoW expansion people buy might as well be a destiny sequel.
By now WoW should have... 1. A well thought out crafting system 2. Developed classes. 3. A direction.
Most games feel like a circle now. Nothing ever seems to evolve. The world doesnt actually evolve, it becomes smaller and smaller as you advance. Your character doesnt evolve, you have less actual choice in your character.
Wow was really good and they were going well....then Blizzard sold out to Activision and it is now faceroll for the win so that they can drag in more people that want an easy game to play. No thought process goes into anything in it anymore.
I was a huge fan of D1, especially after TTK, started losing interest after a couple of months of ROI but was looking forward to the release of D2.
Like many others, I was a victim of over hyping what D2 was going to be to myself, not from what we were being told as such, but from my own thoughts of what it could be. When it was released I was so excited for a while, but it was about the third week when I logged in after reset, ran my weekly high level item quests, and then realised "Oh, that's pretty much all I can do to improve my character" and my excitement died off massively. The two expansions in year 1 D2 didn't exactly fill me with excitement either.
When forsaken was announced, I was initially interested, but quickly realised that the exact same thing was happening as with D1, semi broken year 1, big expansion for Year 2 to make the game more into what we were all hoping for, except this time, instead of adding micro-transactions to help pay for the year 2 events, we'd already had them since D2 release, and now they were adding *another* expansion pass to pay for the year 2 content, on top of what they were already making from the Eververse (speaking of which, god I wish we could mute her, I want to throw her off the tower every time I hear her babbling)
Because at the time I wasn't really willing to jump into the game with yet another DLC purchase (shame on you if you fool me once et al) and was playing other games, I held off until some reviews were out. I've been thinking about buying forsaken and seeing what it's all about, but as time goes on, I get more and more worried that I'll almost immediately be locked out of 'current content' once the next season rolls around and I'll be left with no-one in queues etc unless I fork out for the Y2 season pass.
I am not sure anyone including Destiny players wanted Destiny 2.
I am not sure where this sentiment comes from, if you were part of the D1 community you were excited for and very much wanted D2.. there are thousands of videos on YT, reddit threads etc, all in anticipation for D2's release.. what are you talking about?
It comes
from the ideal of the '10-year plan' for Destiny; i.e. building up a game and
world and characters and stories year after year, similar to how a traditional
MMO would.
It became
pretty obvious once Destiny 2 launched though (before really) that this was not
how Destiny (the series) was going to work, instead of building on the game they were going
to hard reset it every few years, and worse (from the state of Destiny 2) they
were going to be lazy about it with re-used assets, retconned lore, and
minimal content, all so they could sell 'Expansion' passes (which IMO are an atrocious
misappropriation of the word) and major DLC packs (not included in the pass) at
almost the price of a full game...
So yeah,
people where excited for the IDEA of Destiny 2 (I guess), but had they known
the truth (as many more do now)
the mood would have been much different.
I wouldn't mind Destiny 3, but they need to stop what they did with Destiny 2. They took Destiny, which was making a comeback, stripped it down to bare minimum and relaunched it as Destiny 2, then slowly added things that should've been in from the start. Just like Destiny 1, Destiny 2 didn't have anything to do in it, and the expansions slowly added things to do and it got better.
The problem Destiny 2 had/has is they took a game that was coming back and threw it away just to relaunch it with even less content and now they're trying to make another comeback. This comeback will be thrown away and they'll release Destiny 3 with even less content than Destiny 2.

This is why I didn't buy D2 until right before Forsaken. I'm pretty happy with my purchases. I enjoy the game in its current state (although I haven't played much recently). I was in the same boat as you when D2 was being discussed. There was no reason for a sequel and the changes they were making were certainly not sequel-worthy....more like an expansion.
In that regard, yes I agree it's not time for Destiny 3 yet. Not for at least 2-3 more years. Hopefully they've learned from the last release and they make it a big deal to move from 2 to 3.

Forsaken made the game what it should've been at launch. Regretted buying D1 at launch, but don't regret my purchase of D2 Forsaken.
Did you really say that everyone is having fun with Destiny 2? Are you serious? D2 is one of the worst games I've ever played, I uninstalled it after a week of trying to like it.
