Sometimes I take the lol back if poster starts to make somewhat sense later down the post but that does not happen very often...

I see by @Gdemami's "WTF" response to Mike's banning announcement that he is deeply butthurt that one of his very few kindred spirits in the forums has been banned. That's a reaction that deserves a LOL all by itself.

    Anyway back to the topic...

It's a good example of just how studios suck up to "influencers" and spare no expense on them while simultaneously showing no respect whatsoever for even their most dedicated fans who will go the extra mile and spend a couple of hundred on their premium edition.

I hope he never changes, his LOLs serve as confirmation my reasoning is both rational and sound (and that my meds are working properly)....a significant concern at my age.

    :D

Now, back to the OP...I actually don't believe there is any relationship between the "rucksack" given as a marking promotion and the canvas bag which should have been given to the paying customers, no more than any other free perk given to the influencers.

Right now Bethesda's best move would be to offer full refunds to anyone who requested one, or $25.00 in atoms for any user willing to keep the collector's edition "as is."

If they really wanted to be a class act they'd make enough canvas bags to ship every customer and send them out free of charge, even if it takes 6 months to get it done.

Or c'mon, they should just go big!  $200 worth of atoms.  Wouldn't that at least make it seem like they're "super cereal" about compensating their biggest fans?  And it would cost them potentially nothing, especially compared to having those fans rake them across the coals, online.  These people paid 200 bucks for their game!

I learned my lesson with F3 at $130 for the survival edition with the pipboy clock.  Marketing deception not seen since the stuff you'd see in comic books in the 70's.  This time they made a terrible game along with it...

It seems my previous avatar has become dated.  We're no longer "power posters," but "super users."

@ConstantineMerus, I'm going to have to humbly request you update my avatar pursuant to this new revelation. :D
I gotta admit - this turned out to be much better than I expected. I think I've peaked.

All I can say is that Bethesda has ruined whatever respect I had for them as a company.  Not just the bag, but everything around their release of this game.  Maybe EA forced them to do it, but however I look at it, they're left holding the bag (yes, pun intended). I won't say I'll never buy anything from them again, but I will say that I'll think long and hard about it. I don't trust them anymore.

That is a pretty straight forward case of false advertising.  Then they are trying to bait people into accepting something else of lower value to wave being able to hold them accountable.  I got the feeling the bags came out of two different departments in reality, but that still isn't going to help them.  I mean I wouldn't give a second thought to the bag myself, but in reality what they did is actually against the law in many countries.  I mean look at it like this you go to the store you pay for a prime rib but instead you get chuck and the butcher tells you tough that is what they have and walks away and keeps the money for the better cut.  Would you let that go?   Really hope the class action goes forward at this point and they include this in it.  Got the feeling this is really going to hurt the devs, and could cause a closure of a studio if it does go forward and they straight out lose.

They should just offer full refunds for legal reasons to people who are unhappy that is all they have to do to avoid most class-action problems and FTC complaints.

They should offer full refund as a courtesy towards their loyal customers.
I don't think it is just a legal matter at this point.
This is a PR disaster, and they need to raise their profile, simple as that.

Or even better why they don't just commission a cheap $5 canvas bag and send it over to everyone who bought the CE?
Peter Hines is supposed to be an experienced PR manager, but he is behaving like an absolute rookie.

Now we all know that the main draw was the helmet... And from what i heard it is a decent prop, nice for some "kitchen table" cosplay and a nice display item. I am also sure that more serious cosplayers can use it as a nice base to make a good prop.

The bag was really nice looking and would have made an even better base for a prop and worked well as a daily wear for some people. A nylon cinchbag does not really have the same punch in any situation. So people being pissed is very much understandable. Not only because the trend of lavish CE´s are going away (and if you are a collector... that is not a fun feeling) but this sort of bait n switch might become more common if the consumer does not set their for down. We all know that nothing from wish.com actually look like the image... but there we pay dimes to the dollar. When we put down 200$ there is a value calculation that is way more rigid. Taking 20$ out of that is not so bad... But the bag had value beyond the actual $ cost. Not to everyone but to some people.

This is why "luxury" brands spend a lot of money to make their product have a image of value that extends beyond the actual cost of production.

    Yep.
A canvas bag cost to produce around $3, probably less. Yet it provides great (image) value compared to the even cheaper nylon they delivered.
Fans spent $200 on the CE. Would have broke their bank if they spent $3 for a canvas bag rather than $0.50 for a Nylon one?

Would it break their bank if they commissioned a $3 canvas bag and send it over to their customers with apologies?
The margin on their $200 CE would still be really high anyway, but their image will benefit immensely.
    That's basic marketing.

Well, if you honestly thought Bethesda could not possibly get any worse, you'd be wrong, hillariously so. Forget bags, you can lose access to the game permanently for killing other players  :p

I do not know what is worse the fact they thought a prox chat was an awesome idea or the fact I just sit and listened to those mouth breathers go on like that for almost 3 minutes.

When you give people a chance to be their worst selves they will never disappoint.  I am far from the PC crowd as  you can get but these dudes deserved a ban for being to stupid to be allowed to breathe.
Nope. Not deserving at all. Don't like the chat turn it off. Simple.

It's stupid shit like that is why many people don't want text chat in-game.  Getting butthurt over something someone says in chat and virtue signaling outrage instead of just blocking them will kill this game on PC.

Its also blown out of proportion, they were clearly not serious and just messing about as kids etc. often do in games of this sort. If Bethesda overeacts like this, there will be even less reasons for players to play the game, particularly as these are the target demographic for this type of game. :p

Killing another player is not at all why that group of players was  banned,  but I found that commentator to be even more offensive,  can we ban him from the internet somehow?

     :D

But as mentioned, that story needs a different thread / forum as it's unlikely a conversation on that subject would survive being closed by the moderators here as it would quickly get out of hand I think.

The final nail in the coffin for this baked turd. If Bugs, review bombs, and paper mache duffel bags weren't enough to ruin Bethesda's holiday now you have every soccer mom across America avoiding this game like the plague in fear of little Johnny hearing bad man make bad talk.

Yup they don't need NPCs with stories because other players are more awesome and create better fun.

I don't really give much of a shit whether they're banned permanently or not because I don't play it but this is exactly the kind of stuff I expect from this kind of game when you have proximity voice chat everywhere.

    Are they having fun yet?

Forget soccer moms and little Johnny, this cranky 61 year old doesn't want idiots spewing garbage on his gaming chats, I applaud any company who makes sure such players are removed permanently from the games I play.

Like I said, this topic won't end well.

If that was the case then there would be far fewer players of Fortnite, of virtually every other PVP game out there that has voice chat, particularly those on consoles, where young players can be particularly vocal about things that such soccer moms would find shocking. Its also one of the reasons why i turned off proximity chat etc. in ESO.  :p

Not sure it is about being butt hurt as much as not wanting to listen to people spout stupid shit just for the shock value of it all.  I was not offended by what the kids were doing but more that they thought they were being all cool for doing it in what would be considered a public forum.  I seriously doubt they would act this way if you could see their faces or knew their parents.  That is my issue with it.

Should they have been banned......nope.  Should their parents take them out back and beat them......yep.
Well yeah they were being stupid for the shock value. I am not defending what they were saying. I'm defending their right to say what they want on the internet when the ability to censor on the user end exists.
