Turns Out Anthem VIP Demo Issues Aren't Server-Related at All

I feel a little divided after a few hours in the Demo... The core game seems actually pretty fun and the "shooting" feeling is nice but the state it is in atm is just horrible. Does not feel like a game ready for realease in less than a month. To name a few things:

    - The number one issue that i fear will still be there for realease, horrible rubberbanding making it basicly unplayable, if they dont get this fixed right away this is gonna crash and burn really hard. And im not talking about 1 second light rubberbanding but the really really bad one.

    - Flying and movement is still pretty choppy and unresponsive without that nice flow you want from an AAA title.

    - Hub movement and animations are waaaay to slow with unneccesary slow zoom ins and timesinks. Ui and meny navigation still needs alot of work in my opinion.

    - Respawns are way to fast making normal "exploration" feel to stressed.

Im still gonna give it a chance though, the good thing is i believe the biggest problems are actually fixable, but for the Demo im just gonna give up. If the game gives me a month of fun at realease until The Division 2 is out i will be happy enough.

    Cheers

I really could not care about early log in issues, if I was one of those people who liked pinned threads (I hate them) I would suggest we have a New Game Log In Issues thread.

All that matters is how the gameplay turns out, which for me is still very much up in the air, if you will forgive the allusion. :)

Sound like they are using same server as Trion:) Even if they coming up with is not server problem to log in or even playing on a good ping is related to their server.

Played several hours this evening with no issues. I'm pleasantly surprised how much fun it is. Imo it's way better than Destiny and WarFrame. The storm javelin is so much fun. Can't wait to try out the ones I didn't have a chance to unlock. But I'm certain storm will be my main at launch. I didn't have any high expectations, but now I can't wait for launch. Well done Bioware.

It's an authentication problem..7 hours in ea support queue later, an agent granted me access to the vip test manually since my acess was not working.

Huh, funny. I've been playing with no issues since I got home from work last night. Well, not completely problem-free, but the workaround the matchmaking loading screen is an easy fix...just end the task and restart.

Anyhow, it's not like pre-ordering is some super-exclusive thing that nobody does, so the amount of players participating (especially in a highly-anticipated game) is probably high as hell too.

Lol @ DDoS'ing themselves though....perfect example of a solution sounding great on paper.

As far the game itself goes....it's pretty damn good, can't wait for release!

So I've finally got into the game - and it's not good. Of course, it's gorgeous (except for female NPCs having giant tadpole-like heads) and there are endless possibilities for fashion end-game - but:

you run out of ammo multiple times per mission (in a shooter!),

you stuck in environment in endless falling animation,

you stuck in dead state because your team mates are too far away and don't know how to find you,

team wipes many times on seemingly simple boss because it spawns tons of ads and put itself into invulnerable state,

bad unintuitive interface which block you from certain actions and you have to Alt+F4 whole game.

From my experience with previous betas - most of these "features" will take many months to fix. Overall, gameplay doesn't feel fun - more like irritating. No way on Earth you should buy this game in its present state (especially with The Division 2 release a month away). At best you should wait for September sale and let the pre-order victims work as beta-testers for their $60.

can't say i've had an issue with running out of ammo.. you're probably just treating it like a regular shooter. your guns are more something for when waiting on ability cool downs.

been playing for a few hours now and experimenting with load outs. seems like there's a lot of stuff to play with.

I played about 1/4 of the time that I was trying to play. I had fun. It felt slower than Destiny but I had fun. Need to try more weapons and see how things go. I still plan on playing a lot but very curious from what I saw how the full game will be. The game felt very small. The flying was one that I was getting better but I would like to zoom out farther when flying as up and down can be a problem because can't see that there is something to hit when moving those directions sometimes.

I managed to login on my main pc and and actually get out of town to work on missions.  Lots of rubber-banding, some disconnects (that don't tell you you've been disconnected).  For me this plays like an alpha with lots of bugs to be sorted.  As I type this the game is stuck on a loading screen after disconnect.

They are slowly fixing things but so far it looks like a play next year because it feels rushed with the minimum viable product.

Everyday I'm able to play longer and accomplish a little more so perhaps by the end of the demo period there may be some great improvements.

I've had a blast playing this game once I found a good load out.  Weapons and skills seem to be pretty unbalanced forcing me to use specific abilities and weapons exclusively.

Combo system is pretty cool.   Had another Storm in my group with Ice abilties, he would freeze them solid and I would nuke them with fire causing major damage.

The demo is a mess. When I can actually play, I'm having a blast, but I'm getting stuck at 95% loading screens at least half the time.

1000% agree with you and I said the same thing earlier. They knew precisely how many pre orders there were, x possible 3(friend codes). Plan accordingly, load balance accordingly. Its 2019 and the age old 'we didnt expect this' nonsense needs to stop. I almost think its a marketing tactic to make their game seem popular at the onset. "oh wow we didnt know you all loved our product so much to the point where its broken'.

Not saying they don't have issues, but get real.  There will never be a major online game, especially MMO that doesnt have server issues at startup.

At no point does the mass influx of players that play 24/7 and all log in at the same time for the first bit ever justify 5x-10x more server capacity than it would take to handle the game very well after the initial rush.  Especially when a game is popular a brand new game will always have 5-10x the server load it will have just days later when things have balanced out and early land/level rush gamers vacations from work etc are done.

And then if it's a limited time weekend event for a popular release such as this, you further concentrate when people feel they have to log in.  Those should be easier to plan for but still.  Maybe this one should have been planned better but you make it sound like new games don't have to worry about buying more infrastructure than they really need in the long run.

Never had this issue. Most adds drop endless ammo. So not sure why you ran out of ammo. Maybe you didn't realize the teal orbs are ammo.

you stuck in environment in endless falling animation,

Bugs happen. I didn't experience this specific one. But every single game has bugs, especially in beta. Nothing exclusive to this game.

you stuck in dead state because your team mates are too far away and don't know how to find you,

If you are in a mission, and your teammates get ahead of you. You are automatically teleported to them if you fall behind. The only place this doesn't apply is in free play. But that's the point of free play. You have a huge area you can move around in and engage events and enemies at your discretion. It's up to you to find the other players if you want to team up. Or if you prefer you can solo.

All you have to do is look at your map to see where your downed teammates are if you're not sure. Also indications of what direction your teammates are show up on your HUD.

Team wipes many times on seemingly simple boss because it spawns tons of ads and put itself into invulnerable state

You must of had some terrible teammates, or maybe you're just not good at this game. No offense. The bosses I encountered weren't super difficult. They had some mechanics that you had to adapt to. You can't just stand in one spot and gun down the bosses. You have to move around and use your abilities.  Nothing that you can't beat after a try or two if you're a decent player.

PC controls are, acceptable.  I can tell they cater to gamepads but I never find myself cursing them.  I'm able to forget I'm using a keyboard and mouse which makes gameplay more intuitive for me.  I also just played a session with zero lag or rubberbanding which was nice.  But I'm currently stuck on frozen loading screen again.  Luckily no progress is lost when I log back in.

NPCs still need work.  Some will charge you then just stand there while you kill them.  Others are more realistic, moving around alot.  Feels like DPS has been increased some as NPCs appear to be not so much bullet spongy.

The loading freezes are getting ridiculous on my end. I've only completed 2 missions after hours of play because the problem is that frequent.

Know what? After a few hours of watching youtube channels I like, not gonna advert here. I don't care about all the negativity and people crying about problems with the game that I myself understand and mostly agree with.

But its an old version. I have no doubt its going to get better next time and upon release.
Im going to buy it no matter what. Probably the regular version but maybe even the deluxe.
But honestly, im just going to get origin premier. its just 15$ US a month, yea its part of their digital service idea they seem to be in love with which is meh 2 begin with but idc its their company. oddly enough, it suits me quite well right now. Origin premier access, i get all the bells and whistles of the preorder for anthem. if i dont like it it goes away from my library. still have bf1 and a bunch of single player games. even ME Andromeda that I never even finished because EA said its discontinued. Cant even remember what that game played like anyway, I just remember that my face is tired.

This thing in which you depend on drops for healing and ammo needs to be balanced.  I ran out of ammo on my last mission and all my teammates were down except me.  They were in the heart of the NPCs so trying to bring them back meant getting close to them which meant instant death.

They do give you two skills that don't depend on ammo and an ultimate, which meant I could finish off the boss solo.  Luckily he was almost dead anyway so it worked out.  The terrain gave the boss the high ground and the sides were built to make it difficult to find a good tactical position unlike in a lot of other games.

With more decent drops over time survival should increase.  Would love to be able to use good drops instantly.

I did see a re-spawn option but it doesn't seem to be working.

hmm.. ok think i might give it a try next week if possible before i decide.

btw you don't need to kill things for ammo drops. just pay attention to what drops on the ground.
bosses and stuff are designed to drop ammo when you attack them.

I definitely disagree with this. I find the PC controls to be abhorrent and a complete afterthought. The menus themselves don't seem to be very intuitive for KB/M, either, which is part of the problem. However, flight control with KB/M is easily the worst port I've ever experienced -- even at 100% sensitivity, it feels genuinely unfulfilling to fly with a KB/M compared to a controller.

(EDIT: The best description I've seen for using a KB/M for flying in Anthem is comparing it to hydroplaning in a car -- thats exactly what it feels like to me.)
