Far Cry: New Dawn is the first direct sequel to a Far Cry title. How does New Dawn serve the franchise? Can it stand on its own or would it have been better to leave the story in a pile of nuclear ash where Far Cry 5 left off? Let’s find out.

I haven't touched the FC series since FC4. I don't know that I will, but thanks for the review.

You should! 5 and ND are fantastic.

I just started Far Cry 4 last night. Had it sitting in my Library with only 2 Hours played.
Not sure about tomorrow as Metro Exodus and Far Cry New Dawn both release.

A definite pickup for me. Loved FC5

The Far Cry franchise is my favorite. I have played them all. For $40 I know i will spend at least 40 hours playing it so it is money well spent.
New Dawn could have been a DLC for FC5 but I need to see how much explorable area we get in New Dawn. if it is close to the map in FC5 I am fine with it being a new game. Exploration is half the fun in the FC series.

The journey is more important then the outcome

Far Cry is the most fun shooter series I have ever played.
Doom and Doom II we're pretty damn fun back in the day. Lan parties and all :)

Far Cry combined shooters with the open world which definitely made it the best shooter series I've ever played as well.

I stopped at FC3.. I've bought them all but never got round to playing them. Same with Assassin's Creed and I refuse to play the new ones before the older ones. Too much catching up to do. Might have to give up MMOs for a while.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Apart from the Ezio trilogy every Assassins creed is independent from each other. Odyssey is an awesome game, it would be a shame to miss it for your reasoning.

Each FarCry is also independent from each other, except for 5 and New Dawn have a link.

I know but I want to see.. appreciate.. or possibly hate.. the changes throughout each series.

Are the AC games really independent though? I know they each have a contained story but the overarching story about the animus and the aliens(?) that left the vaults everywhere is ongoing until Origins, isn't it?

I've only played AC1 and 2 and there were definitely links between them. You even play as Altair in AC2 for a bit.

Not to put the game down or anything....but it pretty much was an asset flip of 5 so, I guess the positive is that they didn't have the audacity to charge 60$ for it.

Any link is superficial @ best. Different stories in different times. I've loved most the series, totally skipped from the end of AC4 until Origins.

I thought Ubisoft removed the whole animus/real world story from the game. For whatever reason people hated Desmond Miles and the modern day gameplay and as a result Ubisoft slowly started caring less about it. Black Flag started ruining the out-of-the-animus content after killing Desmond.

Playing in the modern day and jumping into the animus to uncover ancestral history was my favorite part of any AC game. Now they are just generic Assassin games to me.

As for FC New Dawn, i'm indifferent. FC3 was the last one i bought.

I have only liked 2 of the AC games so far. Blag Flag I enjoyed and I'm playing Odyssey atm and it's my favorite in the series.

FC5 is one of my favorite all time shooters. We'll probably get ND on the PS4. I'm not going to get it right away though. FC5 was very good and I have expectations I can't shake so I'm not sure how well a very recent sequel will be able to live up.
I bought it twice, I wanted so bad to like it on my 1X but I just suck too bad with a controller and a shooter.

I loved the freedom in it. I'm worried I might be disappointed with ND because FC5 was that good.

If the only one you play after the first one is Black Flag, then you've played the best one.

I'm honestly sorry I didn't play it sooner.

That being said, I haven't played Odyssey yet because I don't buy AC games until they're 50% off or more.

I don't think you know what the term "asset flip" means.

I've already got this pre-loaded for tomorrow. Really enjoyed FC5 (except for maybe the ending, makes sense now, though) and I'm looking forward to seeing how things are different or the same after the nukes landed in Montana. Ubi has really been firing on all cylinders the past 2-3 years. I've really enjoyed everything they've put out. I just finished FC5 about a month ago I'm still playing my way through AC Odyssey. At 50+ hours (only lvl 32 atm) and I feel like I'm not even half way through the story yet. I think New Dawn being a bit shorter might be a good thing since my only real "complaint" about FC5, AC Odyssey and Origins is that there was too much stuff to do and I felt bad for not completing every side quest available.

I attempted this several times with all kindsa series'.  Turns out, some series just don't age well.

I have an issue where I can't really play much older games unless I already have some type of nostalgia or attachment to them.

Sometimes I make that attachment backwards, I'll play the newest version, and then like it so much I'll go back...  but it's been very tough for me to start with an old game and make it all the way through to the newest one.

Then you missed out on the lunar sale as Odyssey was $29.99 50 % off I bought the ultimate edition which has the season pass and the deluxe edition for $54.99 because the lunar sale gave extra $5 discount for purchase over $30. Which is $119.99 now at full price.

My first take on the story and premise of the setting....far far to political. I won't reward that with my money.
