SC is a shining example of what happens when a creative person is given seemingly unlimited amounts of money and time !
One of the major motivations behind crowdfunding was to free the game developers from the tyranny of the "suits", so that they would not be forced to cut features or release a rushed game because the accountants and marketing deadlines required them to...
Well, y'know what they say: "Be careful what you wish for !"
Interesting read and especially those nuggets of knowledge about his bat shit crazy wife.
Have participated in the free fly events but the article is correct in many ways. I honestly believe at some point the well of money will dry up and they will have to release something. But again I ask, if 1.1 million folks have backed the game then how many more copies of an incomplete disjointed vision will new people buy? Game was always going to appeal to a niche audience and Roberts has let his grand vision get the better of his common sense.
Finish the solar system you are working on then release. If you wait for 100 systems then none of the current backers will live to see the results. 8 years in you have 2 planets and some moons for 300 million.......
Shh! They have tools.
These tools are the hardest thing ever built by a development studio. They are, and it's taking a long time and a lot of money to build them.
But don't despair! Once they finish the tools, they can just leave the mainframe processing overnight using the tools, and it'll pretty much finish building the game by itself! The tools, man. The tools.
Damn...nice rip there Forbes. The past proves it's just another failure on the wall for poor Chris Roberts.

Here is the thing that annoys me the most with today's Gamers and most people in general.
"WHHHAAAAAA I want the bean counters and suits out of my game I want to have it done when its done and not rushed"
Move to Star Citizen.... "This game is a crock, scam, POS, Chris Roberts needs to go to jail.... blah blah blah"......
Well for anyone thats paying attention Star Citizen is an example of what happens when you give a game company tones of money AND take the suits away to just leave creative types to make the game. There is a reason why there are there... you can't have it to the extreme on both sides. I think the game industry needs to find a happy balance personally....
Star Citizen isn't a failure. If you got to spend 300 million dollars of other peoples money while lining your pockets with some of it, would you feel like a failure? I sure as f#$% wouldn't.
Stop attacking the "game" and start laughing at the ding dongs that are championing a 300 billion dollar budget for something that most likely won't give the proportional amount of enjoyment.
For that amount (and still counting), Star Citizen better equate to SWG + Planetside 1 + Battlefield 2142 + Modern Warfare + WoW + Archeage + League of Legends + EVE + Fortnite + Everquest + No Man's Land Marketing Pitch + Blader Runner + TRON + Star Wars + Dune + Akira + LOTR + Everything nerd cool ever.
"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"
Am I the only person to realize that this article is just pure clickbait?
There is literally nothing new. It's the same rehashed shit we've been hearing for years. It's like a bad boy band record producer. Get a bunch of interviews from disgruntled ex employees, print salacious claims based on statements from said ex employees, sprinkle in some wild speculation based on rumors... Profit!
For the record I have no money invested into the game and I check in on it every 6 or 7 months to see where it goes. If it comes out and it's not a buggy shit show, I'll probably buy it.
What I don't understand is the absolute immense, Viagra fueled hardon people have for seeing this game fail.
This whole thing could be used to teach a masterclass in how to identify confirmation bias.
"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently."

A lot of critics don't want it to fail. Do you even understand what that would mean and how that's bad for gamers looking for something different from studios?
But, keep blaming the players "disgruntled ex-employees" for CIG's consistent failures. There's a reason why you haven't given them any money, never forget that.
CIG failing will be bad for all of us, as gamers. Not exactly something to cheer about.
What I don't understand is the absolute immense, Viagra fueled hardon people have for seeing this game fail.
There is a distinction between wanting it to fail and watching it fail while being lied to. I remember when I was stoked for the game in like 2015 or something. It sounded awesome to me.
But then the misrepresentations and lies piled up and their obvious mismanagement started becoming apparent. There is the selling of land for which there was not even an idea on paper for. There is the selling of in game currency and $27,000 ship packages making it the not only one of the most robust P2W systems thus far, but one of the most expensive ones as well. There are the demonstrations which included stuff that was never, ever going to make it into game. There was the $46,000,000 borrow last year even though they have brought in over $220,000,000 from pledges. There are the straight lies about the release of SQ42 in 2015 and 2016 (probably other years) in order to entice people to donate. They are even currently doing that by saying 2020 for SQ42.
All of that is extremely ugly and mostly unethical in my opinion. And in the end they are going to end up with a P2W $300,000,000+ game. It should not be surprising that, whenever there is discussion about such an shitty endeavor, that people try to call them out on these things. People are, after all, still blowing their money on what will likely be an incredible disappointment (if it releases at all).
I remember my first misgivings were when they said they were going to add capability for players real world facial expressions to be reflected on their in-game characters. I thought "do they really need that?"

Pitty by the time this game is released technology and games will have moved past were this is classed as good it had potential but im very doubt full it will ever reach it.
Holy Shit, there was a LOT of crap in that article I've never read before. Sandi is a stalker?
So this guys gonna get sued for Libel...because if he doesn't, its almost passive aknowledgement of it all being true.
Just, wow lol
It looks like they writer has found official court documents and is reporting from them. After it's valid in official documents others are allowed to act based on assumption that it's the truth.
As long as the writer isn't misrepresenting those official documents somehow Sandi can't sue them for reporting false information. It would be an unwinnable case, and the magazine would just write a series of articles on how they're getting sued calling more attention to those documents.
The whole stalker/love triangle thing is weird as hell.
I know CR is in a bit of a tight spot and he's hardly going to admit that once upon a time his wife-to-be was a bunny boiler but his response is as stupid as you can get.
If the claims were false then signing them would be an offence.
The stalker bits were interesting and seeing the court documents would have been great but probably not hard to search up.
The horrible management, terrible spending, all the other bad crap is nothing new to anyone who has dealt with Roberts before or who decided to do any research into him before throwing money at him.
"Up to a point, Roberts has been transparent about where the money has been going. He released years’ worth of financial statements last December. But he won’t say how much he or other top Cloud Imperium execs have made from the project. His wife and his brother both work in senior positions at the company."
I've been pointing this out ever since we were told Sandi and his brother both having key exec positions for which neither of them were aptly qualified for. That was probably one of thee first comments I ever made about the game and the people developing it. Sure, he's transparent about the money being spent on the game, but why hide how much you, your wife and your brother are making? Pure rubbish and one of the main reasons he's going to end up in jail unless he can justify everyone's "salary".
Erin Roberts has enough qualification for his job, and by now Sandi Gardiner is qualified on the virtue of how successful marketing has been, so Chris Roberts can't really be blamed for hiring unqualified people.
However the backers are stupid when they give this much money without oversight on how much the company's owners, their families, and relatives get salary and bonuses.
