Haha. This is new to me. I haven't seen a lot of Sentinel fans. Most are down on the AT. What do you like about it? I enjoy mine, but it's not my favorite AT.

I don't think most of those people even understand how the inherent works. That has been my experience. They think "it sucks" because they just don't know how to play it properly. I've had to teach a fair number of people how it works, not that I mind, mind you. I love the AT, its friggin amazing. It dishes out so much damage while having a healthy amount of defense. I've killed quite a number of elite bosses already on mine.

My list is quite different and is based on my experience in the mainstream game, so no Sentinels... Also, I am not a big pet guy, so I found Masterminds and Controllers boring.

1- Scrappers. While Brutes are capable of higher peak damage, a Scrapper has a higher level of sustained damage. Also, their defenses are the same unless you are on a team that can buff them up, then a Brute is superior. I level capped 2 Scrappers. Also, I capped 1 Brute.
2 - Corruptor. I agree that Blasters got the short end of the stick, defining a glass cannon. And with 35% more damage than a Defender, it is hard to find fault with them. But buffs, debuffs and ranged damage that is only second to a Blaster made Corruptors a great AT. I level capped one, along with one Blaster.
3 - Tanker. This was my favorite AT to play. Being able to count the money in your wallet while the bad guys are wailing on you is pretty cool. Between astounding defenses and unbreakable agro tools, this AT made fighting AVs a lot easier. I level capped 3 of them.
4 - Dominator. I did not try this AT until late, so I was unable to level cap one (got to 46). I found this type a lot more fun than Controllers (level capped one). I sure wish I had tried it sooner, as this class is a blast!
5 - Defender. Wow, I could go on and on about how easy it is to find a team as a rad defender or an empath defender. Also, working in a team as a Defender is more satisfying than playing a Corruptor. If I was going to solo, I prefer Corruptors, which is why they are higher on my list. But in a team, Defender just worked better for me. I level capped 2 of them.

I get a bit triggered when anyone compares Corrupter damage to Blaster damage. I dearly love both archetypes, but their damage is not even in the same ballpark. Yes, Scourge helps a lot, but don't forget that the Blaster's innate ability applies a stacking damage buff with every attack, AND the Blaster can attack while controlled. These factors are more than enough to keep the Blaster head and shoulders above even the Scourgiest Corruptor.

Also, if you never use your Blaster secondaries, you are doing it wrong.

So in essence, I get why Corruptor is on your list and not Blaster -- Corruptor is definitely a better AT for you personally, as you don't seem to really grok the Blaster.

Similarly, Brutes don't even come close to Scrapper base damage unless their rage is completely full (which is extremely hard to pull off for long periods of time). Even then, crits will put Scrappers ahead. If the Brute is heavily buffed, it can do a tiny bit more in short bursts, but in the long run the Scrapper's average is going to be higher.

So yeah, I know this was just meant to be a fluffy opinion piece, but can we please not perpetuate these harmful myths?

Sentinel reminds me of that episode of South Park where Cartman and the kids are being super heroes and every time someone says they have a power Cartman says he has that power too.

For some reason 5 seems too many for "favorites." And this from a guy who has a hard time picking favorites from a lot of things (like pies... they're pretty nearly all my favorites).

I'd say I have 3 favorites, and my picks have nothing to do with how powerful they are or anything like that.

    1) Controller -- Because I LOVE those control effects! and there are a couple sort-of pet options. But mostly to see multiple villains trapped in electric cages, or rocks, or rings of fire! Or turning on each other, or running or trembling in terror! I think my favorite though is to have a bunch of baddies just stumbling around in a daze. Yup, really must play with a team, but I think playing with a team is one of the best things about the game. I've lost interest in most other games largely because it seems so much harder to get invited to team with anyone.

    2) Blaster -- Mostly just because of the snipe power! Love that pose... the slow build-up... and the ZAP! POW! a streak of your favorite-colored/style power and a villain way off there goes flying, with a big drop in hp if not taken out with that one shot. Some of the secondary sets are lots of fun, too -- I think especially the big knockback powers. Uh-oh, here come the aggroed friends or minions.... SWOOSH! There they go! Add flight as the travel power and you can keep your distance pretty well, or again team up, or hey, maybe just enjoy the challenge.

    3) Mastermind -- you said it, wonderful playing with those pets! One of the things I liked most was the ability to give the pets different names, fitting the character's background/theme.

Twin pistols is another power I like a lot, but several archetypes can get it, right?

IF I had to pick 2 more favorites I'd probably go with Tank and Scrapper. Tank is just the simplest, strongest (in the simplest way) of all, great to just take it easy and wade into the fight. Scrapper is great when you just want to get right in there and rip away, but not just sit there taking damage. Of course the claws power is fun, but I think my favorite is Spines -- unique, even satisfyingly grotesque look (if you want), and cool effects, especially the Spine Burst. Some of the kicking powers are lots of fun, too. I had a blast with my Pippi Bigboots, bootin' baddies' behinds. Sweeps, flip-kicks, spinning in mid-air... wheee!

These bring out one of the things that have made CoH stand out from other games -- so many others have tremendous attack effects, actually way overblown or just too much for my taste -- but they're mostly lightshows, flash and razzle-dazzle. Often you'll see little actual effect on your target other than drops in HP or endurance. CoH on the other hand, has visual effects that I expect from super powers, AND they have the clear effects on the targets that are so satisfying -- holds, knockbacks, shaking, coughing, etc. Very immersive and entertaining.

I liked the Mastermind but i don't think its the best pet class in MMO history. Many pet classes in different MMO"s are just as fun or better to play.

MM was good but I got tired of summoning the pets.  Go through a door, resummon the robots. Cross a zone line, resummon the robots. Again and again.

Masterminds are a true pet class meaning you the player are doing nothing but healing and buffing your pets so they do all the killing. Was on the Mastermind Archetype forum and they said if you want to do damage pick another class.

You are probably right. I am just going off of memory from a long time ago. For whatever reasons, I recall repetitive summoning was an annoyance.

It depends on pet type, like humans go through doors, demons die and have to get resummoned. Think robots require a resummon too.
