Guild Wars 2. That one was announced years too early.

I've followed many games through pre-alpha to release. Horizons, DAoC, Pantheon, WoW, D3, and so on. I don't get that worked up about the wait though, I just follow on Facebook and play something else in the meantime.
I wish Horizons was made by a bigger better company, thats still my favorite concept of a game of all-time

there was nothing better than working as an entire server to free the Satyrs
I remember following Horizons in pre-alpha when they released their playable race graphic that showed about 10 different races and their relative size to one another. Then somewhere in there, they scrapped it and went to 3 races (I think 3?) with the dragons. I had high hopes for it too =(

    Half-life 3....a while.
Yes I know it is questionable, if there was ever an official statement as to if we would get it.

Hero's Journey development was a bit interesting. They are coming from the D&D/MUD realm so their engine focuses more on tailored content.
Don't worry they will be announcing the announcement of Half-Life 3 soon.

It must have been a few years ago when I waited 2 years for a game to be released.  From the time I first noticed it to the time it was released.

I really haven't waited for any games that I can recall. Since I miss the Hype Train/Bus/Bandwagon all the time, I find myself pleasantly surprised sometimes :)

Lately, there are some games I'm waiting on to see if they make it to PC, but nothing specifically. Too many other games to keep me occupied :)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

I don't wait. If something for whatever reason decides to be popular. Exited EA, did a good update or something then I see if I like that and if I want to play and take a look and then if it gets my interest for long enough do that for awhile. Like for example when Adventure Craft went free or Lantern Forge got an update. Or, w/e.

15 races. Ku’lak, Demon, and Vampire would have been so cool (in my mind). Love the name for the Ssslik too, lol.

For games that have actually been announced:

Camelot Unchained - probs about 3 years since I decided I wanted to play the finished game
Zelda - BotW - maybe 2 1/2 years waiting for this, I even bought a Wii U about a year and a half before release of the game because they promised us it'd be soon.
SWTOR - Couple of years waiting for this one, biggest gaming disappointment ever

So, looks like about 3 years is my max, but then most games don't actually get announced much earlier in their dev phase so kinda makes sense.

For games that havent been announced and only existed in my head when I first started wanting them (and mostly still only exist in my head):

Total War: Warhammer - 16 years. Basically, as soon as I played the first Shogun I started wanting them to make a warhammer game. The mechanics and the lore seemed perfectly suited. I was really happy that it finally got made, was a big surprise when it actually got announced. I'm still waiting for a 40k version....

Star Wars MMORPG - 15 years. Basically, been waiting for one of these since I left SWG in 2004. SWTOR wasn't an MMO (player cap of 75....)

Star Wars Open World / Sandbox RPG - To my knowledge, one of these has never been made. KOTOR was fairly close, but the focus on story and the small zones combined with lack of freedom meant it was never really my thing. I basically want Skyrim but Star Wars (and with good combat if possible....).

Skate 4 - 9 years and counting. I'm a big fan of the mechanics of this series and the world building was OK. Skate 4 is probably the only game that would get me to break my boycott of EA, because even though I know EA would make a mediocre game, as long as they kept the skate mechanics it wouldn't matter, I can create my own fun.

Riftwar Sandbox MMORPG - 6 years. Since the disappointment of SWTOR I've spent a hell of a lot of time thinking about the type of MMO I'd love to play and the IP I'd want it set in. Feist's Riftwar saga is my favourite book series and I think itd translate well into a sandbox MMORPG.

I remember when Age of Conan was announced. I used my allowance to slowly build a computer that would run it with max settings. Every day I would look for news of a release date/Beta. I was obsessed.

When it finally did, I learned a valuable lesson in not buying into blind hype.

I think it's about 8 years for Star Citizen.  If I have to wait another 8 years I'll be in my Seventies, assuming I live that long.  :D

Camelot Unchained.  Got in early at the kickstarter, 6 years ago or so I think?   Not sure I'm really waiting for it anymore though, my interest in pvp has really waned over the years.   But Im sure I'll give it a shot if I'm still alive when it comes out.

This book series has popped into my head a few times as a great basis for an MMORPG. The way Feist has it set up, Rifts connect all the various worlds in his universe and are traversable (did I just invent a word?). Infinite expansions and exploration :)

Yeah. Me too. My own hype was probably why I was so upset with the game.

I suppose 5 years for Pantheon as that is when I became a backer.

Having said that, I don't really "wait" for games. If I'm a backer I give money and if they come out they come out. If not then no biggie.

I mean, technically, I"m waiting for the next Elder Scrolls "single player" game (I could have sworn I posted that here yet can't find it) but there is so much to do and play that it's not really "a wait."

I pay more attention to news about certain games, but I don't really "wait" for them or care that much.  I'm one of those people who never buys games at release anymore, anyhow.

But, to throw a number out there for a game that's taken a long time to (almost) manifest...
    Beyond Good & Evil 2.

Who knows how that game will actually turn out.  I do like the seamless planetary transitions and flight mechanics they've shown so far, so the tech looks good.
