If you call a good community no one talking in pug grouped dungeons then sure.
To the contrary, in the FFXIV duty finder I have found the most absolute patient community in the genre. Can't count how many times people have been supportive after a wipe on easy content due to someone new at tanking or healing. Best community when it comes to casual queueing I have ever seen. Toxicity is extremely rare in my experience.
I've seen tons of "who's the noob in the group who's never done this run before?" Followed by a vote to kick, kicking over someone watching the cutscene for a dungeon, and "learn to play scrub" screaming at newer players. That's pretty much why I quit half way thru heavensward is the community, atleast where I was playing, changed seemingly overnight.
No way did you did not see "tons" of this. You are either exaggerating or you have the worst luck in queues of anyone on the planet.
Personally, I found a large percentage of the community to be toxic with "git gud" being a favorite response when I'd asked for help on their forums getting past a spot I had difficulty with. When I first played, shortly after ARR was launched, it was an extremely friendly, helpful community, but not anymore. GW2 has a far better community, with people willing to go out of their way to res people without being asked or expecting a tip.
You cannot judge an MMO community based on forum responses. That's absurd.

Not once have I every seen someone get kicked for being new and i have been playing since 2.0, mmost if not all times people dont mind a new person because this means its a bonus for people who have already done it.
Saw plenty of people get kicked doing Coils of Bahamut. Doing that kind of content while its new will show what the community is really like.
Like @blackthornn I quit during HW because of the community as well, but came back right before Stormblood but didnt do as much of the high end content.
Would like to see some of the people here that think the community is the bestest ever to go into an Eden Savage group and say "Ive never done this and dont know the fight, will you teach me?" and see how well it goes.
You obviously can't read. I can see why people gave you crap.

Another wonderful example of the "great" FF14 community right here.

Ive been playing FFXIV for several months and I have never, not even once seen the term "git gud". Maybe I play OK and haven't had a reason for anyone to tell me this, not sure but I just know Ive never heard the phrase before today.
Just because I'm a gamer doesn't mean I drive a Honda.
The FF14 community is pretty bad at the high end content. Always has been and it's getting worse. So, if you never do Savage raids then this article is mostly true (except the extreme cherry picking with the anecdotes).
Last week trying to do a Savage raid a healer was yelled at then kicked from the raid because he wasn't doing enough DPS. Yes, a healer was kicked for low DPS.
Unfortunately, this "DPS is the only thing that matters" mentality is becoming more and more pervasive.
Well you just pointed at maybe the number one black mark on rpg's and i have been mentioning it a lot >>>RAIDS.
This is not a FFXIV problem or any single game problem, this has become a very lame selling point that is not even a good idea to begin with, imo raids are a terrible idea.
Point being if you are seeing problems with doing a raid,it is the term RAID that is the problem ,raids create bad communities.
I also stated in my first post that bad community people exist in ALL games, every game has a hit n miss with it's community,it is the core design areas that tip the scales. There is a massive back story to describe with all of mmorpg game design and how it caters to certain people or alienates certain people,i am not going to get into it but the problems are exponential because they are really bad ideas.
You see if as a developer you create ideas that are centered around the ME ME ME idea, you will have problems ...guaranteed.Sadly there is a lot of ME ME ME players that ruin it all.HEY everyone look at me,i'm doing a speed run...good for you and no thanks.

I preordered the game and back while the servers were hosted in Montreal doing any kind of dungeons was pretty horrible experience as there was lots of elitist arses.
The major reasons I left was the shitty impatient community, when it came to dungeons or "higher" end content, but the main reason was the stupid dodge systems that wasn't working properly...was tired of having to dodge BEFORE the red circles on the ground appeared.
Was silly AF to dodge before a red circle and be able to come back in it when it appeared and take a face full of flame and not take damage or get knocked around but then see people go flying when they clearly were not inside the circle when it showed up.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
For the guy you responded to, kicking people for being new is a punishable offense and you can report people for this. Which is why vote kicking active people is hardly used by anyone and people prefer to drop team and just wait out the 30mins queue penalty.
As for the warning system, I've never heard of such extreme lagging/packet loss conditions. My personal average connection means that I get ample warning when an area is marked but I need to be off it before it disappears, as the area damage seem to fire up a fraction of a second earlier on the server. Similarly I can walk back into a marked area the second it disappeared, because the damage has already happened server side. There is only one boss fight that the ground warnings are so fast, they are useless and that's the fight vs Omega. But in this fight you're supposed to switch to the boss's fight depending on the cast message, not the actual warning of the cast.
