Cracks me up still... The SWG forums clamped onto the correction, and are saying it means something different... I guess im jsut confused as to why people would be all for the PS3 / SWG thing, but say the article is a bold face lie or unreliable...
Let me ask people this.. Ive read both article.. What I got out of it is this...
1)Coming soon to a store near us will be the PS3...
2)Once purchased PS3 users will be able to spend 24.95 a month of the Station Launcher..
3)This will allow them to access the current games that are offer4ed for the Station Pass...
The article goes on to state that there will be computers that will be updated with the patch info that PS3 (my assumption here) can connect with toi play these games...
Tell me If i have this wrong or if i got it right..

Where is Obraik? Hell where's everyone who flaunted Smedley's words that the game was not being ported to console?
If you had train wreck syndrome before with SWG (where you know you shouldn't stop to watch but it's just so damn amazing the carnage and destruction) just wait until later this year. To John Smedley I quote the ancient Chinese Proverb "may you live in interesting times" (which certainly isn't a wish for blessing)

You guys must've bombed the English portion of your SATs (assuming you are even old enough to have taken them in the first place), because your reading comprehension is terrible. That article didn't say SWG was coming to the PS3. Stop making threads about it.

hahaha, squidi, i'm afraid you need a lesson in 1 + 1 = 2 ..... becuase if you can't add one reasonable set of facts with another to draw out a solid conclusion then i'm afraid YOU need improved reasoning skills.
Squidi scored a 100% on his SOE fanboi portion of the SATs.
Originally posted by Squidi You guys must've bombed the English portion of your SATs (assuming you are even old enough to have taken them in the first place), because your reading comprehension is terrible. That article didn't say SWG was coming to the PS3. Stop making threads about it.
If I remember correctly, I scored a 710 (out of 800) on the verbal portion of my SATs. That was also 17 years ago.
No, the article did not specifically state that SWG will be ported to the PS3. However, it did imply that the "Station Launcher" will be available to the PS3.
"'It's not going to stop at the PC,' said Nathan Pearce, a creative director at Sony Online Entertainment, which is a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Digital."
You can draw your own conclusions, but this is what I have come up with.
1. June 17, 2005: SOE issues a press release regarding DC Online, "SOE will be creating a DC Comics game for the PC and next generation gaming platforms."
2. Just under 5 months later, SOE (with a very abrupt notice) announces the NGE which made a drastic change to the game mechanics of SWG. Now factor in the amount of time required to code the changes, and you can assume that the above mention press release was made around the time they started working on the NGE.
3. SOE absolutely loves being able to offer multiple games through their Station Access Pass. They did acquire Vanguard so that they could put it on the Station Access as well.
Conclusion: If the PS3 shows that it can draw in enough numbers to support MMORPGs through the Station Launcher, SOE will then make certain that all of its games currently are available for the PS3.
I'm not saying that SWG will be ported for the PS3 when it is launched, and I am not saying that the article makes this reference either. However, I can make a logical conclusion that points to those results. If you can draw another logical conclusion, feel free to debate with me on it. However, I will discount all statements from SOE that says they are not making a port of SWG for the PS3, since I do not trust them.

Haha... That's great. All that denile they spouted about it not going to console. I mean why else would a company dumb down a game a shitload, knowing that it would kill off the majority of the fanbase... They don't have retards running the show there. They knew they'd kill the current fanbase.
They just took a gamble that they'd sell enough on the PS3 to make up for it and then some.
Sad thing is, they'll probably be right in the end. Enough kids will get it for the PS3 just for the "ooh star wars" factor and as a gift from relatives that don't have a clue what a piece of shit it is.
GG.
You know, this reminds me of when I was younger, and I first heard metallica. I first heard it as a song of their Load album (which is considered total shit). I thought it was great at the time though because I had never heard any other metallica. Then, I decided to get some of their older records from the 80's. And then I was like "Holy shit this is way better, ten times better". Funny. If the people that get in on SWG now and think it's good, if they could only play the game we played 2 or 3 years ago, it would be the same reaction.
It's about the people SOE. Give the customers something honest. Give the customers what they want. WoW did that, and continues to.

Until proven otherwise I must disagree with you on the highlighted points. However I'm in agreement on the rest.

Oh come on Obraik I was expecting a "well if it will bring more players in I'm for it" line atleast! Also you don't need to read into that article much? If it isn't about porting all of the games on the station pass to PS3 via station access with the launchpad. What exactly is it about? Also I doubt they'll charge the full price to PS3 owners for less than what a pc owner gets, and they are charging PS3 owners the full price. Explains the recent increase in station pass price as well, also don't put your head in the oven and turn the gas on after $medley confirms it. Wouldn't want to wreck that lasagne

They talk about PS3, offering uniform access to online service for PS3 (there's a video of it, and screenshots), and it talks about x-box live service, which is identical.
This makes the Devs steadfast refusal to add a 2nd toolbar row or to make the UI customizable again make perfect sense. They can't have more active toolbar slots than they can put buttons on a game controller, nor can they allow the UI to change much if it's going to be on a console.
And turn based strategic combat wouldn't appeal to the console kiddies either.
Originally posted by Xcathdra Originally posted by almagill Originally posted by Xcathdra Welp.. So much for the rumors being denied... There is an article talking about the PS3 and the Launchpad (SWG games online) service that allows PS3 access to the games currently played on the computer...
Now, did we actually READ the article or just make a bee-line for the forum to go omg omg?
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Sony Corp. has revealed little about its upcoming PlayStation 3 online service to rival Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox Live, but an upcoming offering from the Japanese giant's online game division may hint at its direction.
So. That's 'has revealed little', not Revealed a little. And then the Reuters journo is making a leap to something that MAY be a hint, but may also not.
Sony Online Entertainment in July will debut a service, known by its working title LaunchPad, which provides users access to several of its online PC games. PC, not console - Access top its PC games.. The article is about the PS3.
LaunchPad, which ties together several programs already offered by Sony, will also consolidate lists of players' friends from a variety of the company's games, support chat and provide downloads of new game content and trinkets. Also, it will offer a single point where players can manage payments and link to other Sony-run sites carrying player rankings and information. Which is exactly what Launchpad does just now. - For PC users.. Again this articel is about the PS3
"It's not going to stop at the PC," said Nathan Pearce, a creative director at SOE, which is a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Digital. And yet he doesn't then go on to say "because next we're coing to the PS3...which you'd kind of expect him to do.
At the debut, LaunchPad will connect users to Sony's "EverQuest," "The Matrix Online," "Star Wars Galaxies," "PlanetSide" and "EverQuest II." Unlimited play of all five games through a Sony Station Access subscription plan costs $24.99 a month.
Sony also will add "Vanguard: Saga of Heroes" to the LaunchPad lineup this winter, Pearce said. Still not earthshattering news. Anyone know if V:SoH was being coded for console?
Games on LaunchPad will constantly update to computers with live online connections so subscribers can go straight into play rather than waiting for new information to download every time they boot up. The service uses technology from Microsoft that transfers files using leftover bandwidth, ensuring uninterrupted computer use.
Again, nothing new there, that's just rehashing what LP already does..
So, where's the bit where he says "And of course that means consoles...."
Read it how you want.. The articvel is about the PS3... If it were not going to be able to access the launchpad, why bring it into the article as well... The article is about the PS3... Its about the Launchpad, and the gamnes already on it...

Oh I was going to add more colour bars but it freaks me out...
Yup, having read some other bits and bobs I'd not be surprised to see it going to console. OTOH we expected that anyway.
Pass me a tinfoil hat... "We're doomed. Doomed I tell yah..."
We'll see.
