Agreed, self righteous hypocrisy never goes out of style.

On an  unrelated note I looked at the bottom of my recently acquired Logitec vertical mouse and its stamped with "Made in China."

Maybe I should wack it with a hammer, you know, to show solidarity and all?

Meh, there's no point in destroying something you had already owned from China. But hey nothing is stopping people from not making future purchases of products, or support to companies that bend over with their pants down for that commie cock meat... aka money

Unfortunately you are correct, perhaps the only way this can really be addressed, is via military intervention. But who am i kidding, the lives of people in Hong Kong aren't worth that are they.

Last I checked there were more murders in my city this week than in hong kong in the past year. The lives of HK are doing just fine.

And the number of knife murders in London was probably even higher, but to say that the lives of people in HK are doing fine, is not just ignorant its a complete lie, because they are not.

I like reading about mmorpgs in production, stories from current mmorpgs (such as that player in Eve who explored everything), and changes, patches, and expansions to mmorpgs. I especially like old school mmorpg mechanics.

I am ok with hardware reviews.

I have zero interest in single player games, MOBAs, BRs, cell phone games, RTS games, and card games, and POLITICS.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

A sequel to Star Wars Galaxies is announced set between Episode 6 and 7. No Jedi allowed, 0 instancing, and a true player run economy. It builds on the base building of popular survival games. I also want player run politics and a deep character development system based on skills you choose to level up.

Most people in North Korea won't be murdered this year, but that doesn't mean that they're doing fine.

You must be living under a rock if you don't realize he is correct.  HK needs freedom, but they have time to work on that. Ahh to be young again.

Anyway, I think I will go read about bikes, on my smartphone..., made in China, with African Rare earth metals mined by child slaves, while I drink my coffee from Columbia, also harvested on the backs of near slave labor. Or maybe I will enjoy some Dole pineapple that is again harvested by damn near slave labor right here in the good ol US of A.

I come here with the anticipation of several major companies wanting to divert all their revenue to me.  This can easily be accomplished by forwarding said revenue to:

    MendelCorp International Amalgamated
    Crowdfunding Accounting Division
    Shady Offshore Processing Branch
    Various Locations

All currencies accepted.  No questions needed.

I most hope to come across news of a new AAA MMORPG that is in development, and that the MMO being developed will meet my personal needs. That means it must:
    • Have a strong IP that I like (purely subjective)
    • Based around horizontal progression
    • Have deep combat mechanics
    • Include objective-based world pvp (e.g. fighting over keeps).
That's only happened once so far, when I first read about Camelot Unchained. But, the game obviously hasn't released yet so I am still without an MMO home.

Beyond that, I want to read about new MMORPGs, tech breakthroughs in the MMO space, business insider stories about dev studios and generally anything to do with MMORPGs that isn't about the content.

However, I don't come to this website for the news. The MMO genre is stuck in a rut so there is barely any news worth reading in general, and less so on this site specifically. I come here for the forums. What's weird is that I took a break for most of the last 18 months and have only recently returned. Those 18 months have not been kind to this site :( forum activity seems to be less than half of what it was before, it's sooo quiet here!

Wishing for Lucasarts to do an in-house game would be pretty pointless as it guarantees nothing. So many people have left and moved on to different companies. The same thing happened to DICE. People were like "If DICE is on it itll be awesome". Yeah well, nobody from the original team is working their anymore except like 1 guy who isn't actually involved as much anymore. Look at how that worked out.

With that being said, I keep hoping to see the announcement of a virtual world MMO akin to Ultima Online or SWG with the only payment/monetization being subscription. That means no F2P what-so-ever (give them a free month at most as trial) and absolutely no cash shop.

Dream on. The pay to play subscription model is dead for any new triple A titles unfortunately, unless you talk premium services. Millennials wouldn't pay it, hell they won't even pay for cable TV anymore. Everything has to be a-la-cart, even if you end up paying more in the end.

The best you could hope for is buy to play with the choice of a monthly premium add-on service that includes some form of stipend for currency. The real question would be come how much of the game would be monetized that would need said currency? Even towards the end of SWG they added their SOE station cash as part of the subscription model. The only difference was is you were forced to pay to play the game and the cash stipend was like a bonus.

That's the standard line, but it comes from the industry. And the industry has had an interest in  clones and easy profits selling internet smoke and mirrors.
Not that they aren't trying to also answer to some issues (like power gaps) with less than ideal concepts that still fit into the cloned concepts.
But it isn't working very well.

I am of the opinion that cheaper is not better, as far as cost to the gamer, and that there's a huge market for a great world to play in regardless of pay model as long as it doesn't include cash shops.

    In agreement, but...

Big game studios (AAA) are run by MBA's and investor boards, now. There is no way on Earth they will ever look away from the unlimited spending cash shops offer. That is not in any business's nature, to turn their backs on easy money. As long as we players keep spending like crazy, publishers will keep on the same path. This well will never dry up ;)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

Even a stupid mobile game like Star Wars Commander has been running for 5 years now (launched 2014). Even if people get sick of it after spending $100, new whales come along. Once it stops making money they will end the service. Same thing could be said about most MMOs. They seem to have a shelf life, and subs wouldn't keep them afloat.  Ever wonder why STO is still going? Whales is why. Once it stops being profitable, it will probably shut down.

SWTOR closing its doors after nine miserable years.  CD Projekt Red sold the rights to make Star Wars based MMO and Single Player game.  Says 'MMO will be like SWG, but more refined and the Single Player game will be a mix of KOTOR 3 and Shadow of Mordor.'

I check this site at least once a week hoping to see news similar to this in the headlines.  Instead, that utter piece of trash SW MMO just keeps puttering along like a 90 year old guy crossing the street with a walker.

Are we 100% sure that whales are still about playing games?  It seems like the whales have moved on to the games-in-development arena.  Where's the incentive for the developer to actually finish their project when so many are so eager to pay so much for ideas on a webpage?  I seriously doubt whales are inherently that altruistic.

Anarchy Online has been sold to a small group of buyers to revamp and relaunch the game.
Firefall has been sold to a small group of buyers to revamp and relaunch the game.
Both will be b2p games with no sub.
