you have a point, but WoW's success is back by it's 1-59 game. It's simply perfect, that and the awesome name of Wacraft. I will be surprised if there are still 50 servers in 2 years.
It's simply perfect... okay... they're more customers disgrunted over WoW than EQ2, GW, EVE, DAoC etc etc etc... what does this tell us my juvenile questing Grade 4's? IT AINT PERFECT - NEVER WILL BE PERFECT. Exp packs? Nill. EQ2 Exp packs? Two and another coming out end of this year... cry me a river WoW fanboys!
I don't want to burst your bubble, but what you EQ2 players have to pay extra for, we get for free with the monthly fee, as it should be. we get one expansion that will have more content then 3 Everquest 2's expansions combined. at least we get what we pay for, can't say that about $oe's EQ2, with its "adventure packs" and "expansions", and at least the WoW developers know what kind of game they want, where $OE keeps launching revamp after revamp, hoping it will be right one time.
So you get a new starting city, over 300 new zones, over four new 40+ raid instances and new wepaons and armour able to behold such attonements WITHOUT grinding for them for weeks and weeks? I'm impressed. However, you get what you pay for, there's a reason why your content is free... because it's crap.
Compared to Everquest 2's content, WoW is heaven where EQ2 wouldn't even be good enough for hell. WoW grinding? WoW's grind is a walk in the park compared to EQ2's boring grind besides, at least WE get the content thats promised to us, and its FINISHED. again an area where $OE fails. The Ahn-Qiraj event required the whole server, of both factions, to work together to open the gates for months. and geuss what, it was actually implanted when they announced it, were $OE announced the froglok quest was in the game months before they actually implant it, making people search for the way to unlock it for nothing because it wasn't there, just to get more money. you won't see crap like that happen at Blizzard.

You know what? Your signature actually makes sense, but not in the funny way you try to portray WOW as bad. What makes McDonalds and WOW the same? Both are very good! You go to Mcdonalds to get a cheeseburger....guess what? It isnt the best, but its damn good and 99 times out of 100, it will be made the same as the last one you had. You got what you expected to get!
So people buy WOW, log in and get what they payed for and what they expected to get. I expect BG to be working....it is working. Unlike other games such as SWG...who actually had unworking arenas. They also had bugged bases where turrets wouldnt show up correctly....soemtimes the turrets wouldnt even dissapear after beign destroyed....most times after being exploited. SWG is a classic example of how not to release a game and further more on how to run it after relaease.
I bought WOW expecting no more than what they said was in the game. Its there and it works! Minor bugs here and there but nothing compared to what alot of games have.
If WoW/EQ2 is such an awesome game, why are people who have actually played it saying that they don't like it? If WoW/EQ2 is such a sucky game, why is a whole country full of people still playing it?
I'll tell you why. Because different strokes for different folks. You can't please everybody all of the time.
MY REAL QUESTIONS:
Why is it so hard for you WoW lovers to believe that people just genuinely don't like the game? It has nothing to do with the number of people who play it, yakkety smakkety. The game is NOT god's gift to mankind. It is "Roleplaying for Dummies" and that is why it is popular, end of story. I play WoW solely because it is the only game my girlfriends can play without getting our group wiped every other encounter. It is *that* newbie friendly. It getting the popular vote doesn't make it a great game, nor does it make people suddenly hate it. The game (or in some of your cases, the creator) is what makes people hate or love the game.
Why do you people care if some people like <insert any SOE game here>? I mean really - did SOE slap yo momma with a toilet bowl or what? WHY are you really so bitter with SOE? Did SWG give you nightmares so bad that you still wake up at night crying? Please - get help. You need to get over it.
And please - spare me your lists of "reasons why SOE sux"...I've heard it. Unless it includes baby-snatching now, there's just no way you can convince me that SOE is like the Enron of game companies. They just aren't.
here we go again, another person that forbids any form of discussion.
sure there are diffrent taste's, but that doesn't hide the fact there is a diffrence in quality between games.
If Everquest and WoW are both equal games, where it just depends on taste, why has every game magazine, every website dedicated to games, rated WoW higher then Everquest 2?
make no mistake, People can play SOE games as much as they like, you won't hear me complaining. hey, if you like any of SOE games, hope you have fun. but that does not take away WoW is of higher quality.
Originally posted by Gameloading here we go again, another person that forbids any form of discussion.
I'm not forbiding *any* form of discussion, just lame forms. Why people don't like SOE doesn't interest or benefit me, but why they feel to need to defend the winning game as if it were the underdog over and over again is what I find fascinating.

Um, maybe because every game magazine and website dedicated to games have human beings, who have tastes, rating the games? How can tastes NOT play a part in scoring a game's graphics? Sounds? Gameplay and fun factor? We are not talking about the safety ratings of different makes and models of cars - we are talking about entertainment software. It is ALL about tastes.

WoW is of greater market share, that does not dictate that it must be of higher quality. If you think it a great quality game, that is great! I'm not mad at you for feeling that way! But a bug-free game created by a Saint is not *necessarily* more fun than one with some minor bugs created by a thug.

As an EQ player who started at launch but left for WoW when it launched, I feel qualified to answer this. Ultimately, EQ went from the most fun game to play to Sony's lab for extorting more cash out of players. It started with the pace of expansions picking up significantly, at 40 -50 bucks a pop, to the All-Station access pass, to adventure packs. Everything SOE did was ultimately about sucking more money out of my wallet.
WoW on the other hand, will have been out two years before they release their first expansion. They obviously are more concerned about their game then they are with plinking me with an endless stream of credit card charges. Gamewise, they are different certainly, but not so much that I would say WoW blows EQ (I do think EQ2 really stinks though, sorry) away or vice versa. It is more that SOE just freakin robs people so openly and without shame that angers us the most. I've actaully thought a few times about going back to my monk and trying out all the content since I've left, but I just can't get over how badly SOE has tried to screw me.
WOW offers nothing new at all, and every idea used borrowed from another game has been watered down for the masses. WOW is ok for a short time MMO, but for the long run there are better games out there
WOW CS is pretty bad too...all copy/paste replies, many times not even pertaining to your issue
Originally posted by gamerman98 I just think its funny that on other game forums ppl defend WoW because of its high numbers, yet on WoW's forum section everyone complains cuz its lack of content. sure i agree they should have took more time on it instead of just slapping a world together and throwing it out there full well knowing that with the name Warcraft on it ppl will come rushing. I think its a OK game, but nothing too spectacular even with an expansion coming out, which im not even impressed with either.
Dude..you have no clue what you are talking about...You win the pink post of the day award. Good Job!
is it a raid-group game? is a quest game? is it a grind game? is it a PvP game? An FPS game or a MMORPG?
Blizzard from the start tried to satisfy everyone and created a game were a casual gamer can advance almost as fast as a hardcore gamer, but while the hardcore game can continue to the end game content the casual gamer is completely halted, a game designed to cater to the casual gamer must allow him access to everything the only difference a casual gamer and a hardcore gamer must have is the time they need to reach their goals, this is not the case with WoW, but is it a hardcore game? There is nothing hardcore about WoW that is why they have introduced ways to artificially halt progression with the timed instances and probably the worst PvP system I have witnesses until today.
So although the end game content is absolutely not accessible to the casual gamer at the same time it is a walk in the park for the hardcore gamer.
Is it a quest based game? Of course it is with a multitude of quests around the places you have to visit, but interestingly grinding your levels is more profitable and faster, so your first character is fun and all but if you decide you need money or try other classes the old grinding recipe is the proper way to do it.
PvP, ahhh here is were WoW truly excels in being the first schizophrenic MMORPG created, it has PvP servers, of course the only difference PvP servers have from the normal servers is that you don’t need to flag in contested zones, that’s it nothing more and nothing less.
With the introduction of the BG's any kind of world PvP was moved into instanced FPS games, CtF, Domination and Conquer games, these can be quite fun in FPS games were toon balance is guaranteed and player skill is what counts, but in a MMORPG were levels and equipment also influence your character allot it only ensures that any kind of balance is just thrown out of the window, making these games not fun but just another mean with which you can get new items.
Blizzard managed with WoW the best game release i have ever witnessed, they created a package which is colourful, well made, promising and the first impression you get when you open it is that you will find whatever you want in it, but once you search it enough you only realize that this impressive package doesn't actually have any substance.
Is WoW bad? No it isn't, by any measurements can someone say WoW is bad, but on the other hand it isn't good either.
Originally posted by DuraheLL Ehh no. The reason I vote down WoW is because I don't really understand why people play it. It's absolutely most popular due to being simple. People in majority don't stand playing advanced games.
It's a very simple reason....Because it is fun! Thats it...Nothing else to say...There is nothing else to see here...move along...move along.
Originally posted by gamerman98 well no one else on here, and myself, didnt say there could ever be a perfect MMO out there. But WoW is far from it. even if the game was bugless and had a ton of more content doesnt mean it would get any better. the community is what makes a game great after the devs make it and WoW's community lol is something that makes a game horrible.
WRONG!....you are soooo wrong sparky.......SWG had the best community ever......and when they changed the game.....the best community ever could not save it.....please STFU if you dont have a clue...ok..g-bye
Originally posted by Gameloading 1: the endgame is nothing but raiding. Everquest had it, and people acted like its heaven on earth. WoW has it and its suddenly the worst thing since britney spears.
SOME people raved about it maybe, not me. I raided as a guild event, not full time in EQ.
2 :pvp outside any kind of battlegrounds is pointless. when Daoc had pvp outside "battlegrounds" without consequences, it was brilliant. when WoW did it, it was suddenly the worst thing ever
Can you confirm that the SAME people that loved DAOCs world PvP hate WoWs? Is is possible that some love DAOCs PvP, some hate it, and some love WoWs world PvP, and some love it? You just saw what you wanted to see.
3: Everquest had a long grind. WoW made a game with a less hard grind, and now its suddenly WAY to easy to hit the cap! Err, what? You miss the point. The word grind means to perform the same action repeatedly to achieve a goal. To solution is NOT to remove the grind by reducing how much XP you need to level, or increasing how much you get per kill. The answer is to make content so you don't grind at all but just play. However you should keep, or even increase how much XP you need to level up, if the game is fun to play, you won't mind taking your time to hit the cap. From level 59 to 60 you need less than 220k XP to level up, and some quests give 10k plus. Blizzard made WoW more fun, but far too easy too.
4: People complain about the forced quests. there are too many of them. however when they play RF Online or Lineage 2, it suddenly sucks because those games have to LITTLE quests. Hmm. Who? I've seen few people complaining about forced quests. Maybe you went looking for some, and found them. Perhaps, just maybe, the raiders that want to be max level complain that they need to quest for best XP, and those that complain about too little quests in other games are a different group altogether. Post a link to any player that complains about too many, and too little quests, THEN I'll accept your argument.
5: WoW promised from the start to take all good things from other games and improve them. yet now people are suddenly complaining WoW didn't bring anything new to the genre.
People are not SUDDENLY complaining about WoWs lack of innovation, I read posts about that more than a year ago. The point is this. Many smaller dev teams are TRYING to innovate, but it's hard, when you need to create and sell a polished product to a decent sized market. Look at DnL. Blizzard however HAS the money AND ability to employ VASTLY more people, create a polished product AND still innovate, since it has such a loyal and huge fan base. A smaller comapny risks losing customers and becoming a niche game, but Blizzard has no such worries, yet they won't take any risks AT ALL.
my point? Its the most populair game, so everything in it must be bad. people just can't accept that a product that has more players then their game actually is of high quality for once. Yeah, that's it, people hate Wow because it's so popular. LoL. Most ridiculous notion ever. The truth is... Some people HATE WoW, for whatever reasons, they are called trolls. They are often more vocal since they have an axe to grind. Some people LOVE WoW, they refuse to see it's many faults. they are FANBOIS, and often respond to flame the trolls. Also very vocal. Then there are the rest of us, that played WoW, and have a wide range of opinions about it; that have played other MMOs and thus have a greater perspective on the game, and a less myopic point of view.
$OE has more money than anyone.. and had thrown more money into ALL their games than Bliz did WoW. All $OE's games have been bug-filled messes that they screw up more than they fix. WoW did it right. Now you FAULT them for it?
LoL. Do you any ANY idea how much was spent to produce WoW, compared to other products?
And don't compare Blizzards investment in ONE game to another companies investment in several, plus all the expansions. Compare like for like.
Post imperical evidence to support your claim or shut up.

Originally posted by Gameloading 1: the endgame is nothing but raiding. Everquest had it, and people acted like its heaven on earth. WoW has it and its suddenly the worst thing since britney spears.
It's critcized because WoW didn't break through any boundaries, it just fell in line with its' predecessors. Folks looking for a true 2nd gen MMO thought they had one in WoW, but Blizzard caved in to lazy game design.
2 :pvp outside any kind of battlegrounds is pointless. when Daoc had pvp outside "battlegrounds" without consequences, it was brilliant. when WoW did it, it was suddenly the worst thing ever. WoW PvP is pointless and is pretty much the worst PvP I've seen so far. Capture the Flag and Domination are UT2004 staples, to drop them straight into an MMO with no variation is lazy game design. WoW has so much great potential for world PvP, but Blizzard dropped the ball.
3: Everquest had a long grind. WoW made a game with a less hard grind, and now its suddenly WAY to easy to hit the cap! It is easy to hit the cap, folks really complain about this? I haven't seen much of it for WoW. EQ2 took a lot of flak when folks were 50 2 months after release. Most folks enjoy the ride to 60, it's the endgame that gets the hate.
4: People complain about the forced quests. there are too many of them. however when they play RF Online or Lineage 2, it suddenly sucks because those games have to LITTLE quests. Again, where are these people complaining at? I'm not seeing it. WoW did an excellent job 1-60 PvE.
5: WoW promised from the start to take all good things from other games and improve them. yet now people are suddenly complaining WoW didn't bring anything new to the genre. It didn't, other than make the genre more accessible to the casual player. If you think WoW Battlegrounds are a PvP challenge, you are mistaken. If you think raiding in WoW is ground breaking, you are mistaken. They did a great job with the 1-60 game, good classes and a great world to explore. They did not push the envelope, in fact, when it came time to expand the content (endgame, PvP) Blizzard fell back on tired forumlae and gave us raiding and FPS PvP maps.
my point? Its the most populair game, so everything in it must be bad. people just can't accept that a product that has more players then their game actually is of high quality for once. It's not all bad, it's just painfully apparent that Blizzard half-assed their endgame. Blizzard is known for innovation and fun games, their endgame is neither.
in some way its very cool to explore those areas and bosses but doing them day after day hours after hours just gets on the nerves. With the only reward being gear that is rather pointless because theres nothing to conquer in the game...
(the PvP is just for honor grinding, theres no other point)
I think the only thing I would like to see WoW implement is a PvP system that has meaning other than just rank and gear. I think that DAoC had a great concempt with it's RvR and relics. If you lost the 'Power' relic everyone in the realm was affected. It made for a great reason to battle it out with the other realms.
I am sure others here probably feel the same way. Other than that I feel WoW has done jsut about everything else right. I am not too worried about the community becuase once you find the right Guild you have your own community.
No game can be perfect for everyone. WoW is a great MMORPG in many ways. If Blizzard could have delivered the expansion a few months ago, instead of late this year, they wouldn't be losing so many people to boredom. A lot of negative feedback on WoW is from people who once enjoyed the game, but have reached the wall of boredom a year before the next expansion is due.
I hope they already have future expansions in full development. If Burning Crusade is good (and not any later than this fall) AND Blizzard can get future expansions on a 9 month release schedule, they could get things completely back on track and sew up a continuing dominance in the market. If, on the other hand, there is another two year wait between BC and the next expansion, then the market will be ripe for a game that will decimate WoW and steal it's success.
The irony about SOE is that they seem to have given content creation and productivity tools a high priority in the development of EQII, only to have those efforts wasted because the game itself (and SOE customer service) is so horrible.

No matter what you give people they always complain and then to look 1337 they want to be the first to dog what everyone else loves.....
Are you an accountant? You sound like one.
WOW is for PVE noobs
WOW CS is pretty bad too...all copy/paste replies, many times not even pertaining to your issue
WoW has no
identity, what is it?
is it a raid-group game? is a quest game? is it a grind game? is it a PvP game?
An FPS game or a MMORPG?
Blizzard from the start tried to satisfy everyone and created a game were a
casual gamer can advance almost as fast as a hardcore gamer, but while the
hardcore game can continue to the end game content the casual gamer is
completely halted, a game designed to cater to the casual gamer must allow him
access to everything the only difference a casual gamer and a hardcore gamer
must have is the time they need to reach their goals, this is not the case with
WoW, but is it a hardcore game? There is nothing hardcore about WoW that is why
they have introduced ways to artificially halt progression with the timed
instances and probably the worst PvP system I have witnesses until today.
So although the end game content is absolutely not accessible to the casual
gamer at the same time it is a walk in the park for the hardcore gamer.
Is it a quest based game? Of course it is with a multitude of quests around the
places you have to visit, but interestingly grinding your levels is more
profitable and faster, so your first character is fun and all but if you decide
you need money or try other classes the old grinding recipe is the proper way
to do it.
PvP, ahhh here is were WoW truly excels in being the first schizophrenic MMORPG
created, it has PvP servers, of course the only difference PvP servers have
from the normal servers is that you don’t need to flag in contested zones, that’s
it nothing more and nothing less.
With the
introduction of the BG's any kind of world PvP was moved into instanced FPS
games, CtF, Domination and Conquer games, these can be quite fun in FPS games
were toon balance is guaranteed and player skill is what counts, but in a MMORPG
were levels and equipment also influence your character allot it only ensures
that any kind of balance is just thrown out of the window, making these games
not fun but just another mean with which you can get new items.
Blizzard managed with WoW the best game release i have ever witnessed, they
created a package which is colourful, well made, promising and the first
impression you get when you open it is that you will find whatever you want in
it, but once you search it enough you only realize that this impressive package
doesn't actually have any substance.
Is WoW bad? No it isn't, by any measurements can someone say WoW is bad, but on
the other hand it isn't good either.
LoL. Do you any ANY idea how much was spent to produce WoW, compared to other products?
And don't compare Blizzards investment in ONE game to another companies investment in several, plus all the expansions. Compare like for like.
Post imperical evidence to support your claim or shut up.

And what about you Chief???? Show me some imperical evidencce on how much WOW cost....Cant huh?
I don't like the endless grind at the endgame...
in some way its very cool to explore those areas and bosses but doing them day after day hours after hours just gets on the nerves. With the only reward being gear that is rather pointless because theres nothing to conquer in the game...
(the PvP is just for honor grinding, theres no other point)
WHY TAKE OTHERS SOULS WHEN YOU ONLY NEED ONE???
98% of the teenage population does or has tried smoking pot. If you're one of the 2% who hasn't, copy & paste this in your signature
I am sure others here probably feel the same way. Other than that I feel WoW has done jsut about everything else right. I am not too worried about the community becuase once you find the right Guild you have your own community.
Just my 2 copper.
