It appears to be a game with a top-down, scrolled out view. A game where you click to move and the visual emphasis is not on your character, other characters, or the environment: it's all about giant fireballs and explosions and swirling clouds that generally obscure character and environment.

People that don't like those types of games usually refer to them as Diablo clones, just for simple reference that will be understood by other people who also don't like those types of games.

Well that is a shallow way to look at these games. There are many ARPGs that are nothing like Diablo. I guess you're right no point questioning this.

I think some of you are under estimating the power of MTG and pull of a game in that universe. Game looks good and very fluid for movements compared to other ARPGs and I'd put it on par with Diablo 3's animations.

Going an ARPG route makes a lot more sense then an MMO route by far.

Whatever you guys saying, the animations are very good. Maybe not D3 good, but .. pretty close.

They are better then PoE by a mile. For an ARPG , this looks kinda cool.

I didn't expected anything from this game, let alone a "WoW clone", but .. i'm happy with what I see as of now. I don't have big expectations from Cryptic however, but .. who knows?

More awesomeness. Huge fan of MTG. I wonder how deep the player decks can be.

this looks very promising I would surely play it at least for the lore, just hope the monetization isn't too Wizards.

didn't know about Naxia. I'm more interested in that one because PWE isn't involved.

It's Diablo with a crappy card game mixed into it. I mean seriously what a stupid idea. Anything with a card game mixed into it is a stupid idea. Rest easy you'll never hear of this game again it's doa.

Animations are good? Are you trolling us? The animations are horrible. Go look at 6:00 min mark - watch the guys spawning at the top - running - hit and fall animations are laughably bad - like crap mobile game bad.

    Come on man.

I see Blizzard animators having mild panic attacks when you said that animations are pretty close to D3...

That at 6:00 min I also noticed, but I hope is just because of the pre-alpha build, same which happened with some parts in the D4 demo. Other then that, yes..the animations are good.

I said pretty close, not on-pair with D3.

Cool that you can use 2 diff colors but would like to be able to use more just like in MTG. Just 2 colors after a while may become repetitive. My hope is that there is enough spell diversity so everyone is not building the same exact maximum damage spells = meta deck. I play mostly controller decks in MTG so would like to do the same in this game. Would also like to see a lot of race options cause Magic has so many races that it would be a shame not be able to play as them.

Slay the spire has actually great gameplay - this does not.

was just responding to that guy saying mixing card games was a stupid idea.

regarding this here game, agree 100%
it looks like a generic cheap mobile/browser game.

hasbro/wotc seem to be taking the games workshop route and just whore out their ip to anyone willing to take it.
we'll get lots of garbage to mediocre games out of that and hopefully one or two good ones.

I was already kind of wary because it is being published by PerfectWorld and Cryptic, but now I'm just disappointed because I was expecting an actual mmorpg. Instead we get an MARPG. I'll have to see more to see if I'll play it but I'm just let down by the deceptive use of the mmorpg label. With that in mind they better pull some shit to draw me in because at the moment, if I wanted to play an marpg, id play PoE

Some people in this thread aren't making accurate comparisons. Comparing slay the spire a rogue-like single player game to an online multiplayer arpg because it has deck building, really?

Also comparing Games Workshop licensing their IP out to 10 man Indy dev teams is not even close to WoTC(hasbro) licensing to PWE who is a known MMORPG developer AND cryptic making the game who first created Marvel Heroes. The other company Hasbro previously worked with was another well known MMO developer Jagex in case no one remembers. WoTC in the past has had decent quality control when a company uses their IP but they have stepped it up in recent years for their online games just look at Arena. Cryptic being able to use planeswalkers names is a good start to everything cause if they allowed them to use what I view as WoTC's most beloved part of their IP I have hope that other iconic spells will also make it into the game.

    Just some nitpicky fact-checking:
PWE ain't a developer, just a publisher. (Perfect World is a dev company, but unrelated to this case. They've made PWI and Jade Dynasty for example.)

Cryptic had nothing to do with Marvel Herpes. heroes. Whatever, must've been a typo and not my dislike of diablo clones :)

Where the confusion might lay is their original game in plans after CoX was left behind, the superhero MMORPG with Marvel. There were 2-3 working titles in the air and one of those was Marvel Heroes. (I think Marvel Universe Online was the official)
But that was more than a decade before Herpes, and was a real MMORPG not a diablo clone. When Marvel ditched the project, that game became CO, after Cryptic teamed up with Champions. (teamed up = they've bought the whole IP...)

I really think the Sith are in charge here most of the time :P I was hoping to make it to at least 5 post before seeing the hate flow for something people most likely will not even play just because it is an ARPG. Didn't make it past the first post. Oh well. Like I have said in other post I will reserve judgment till I have played it. My only hope is they will allow keyboard movement as an option, wrist can't take much more click to move stuff.

They didn't "first create" Marvel Heroes. They had nothing to do with the game. The Marvel MMO that they were working on turned into Champions Online, which is nothing even remotely similar to Marvel Heroes.

I got 2 words to remind everyone to stay away. Cryptic Studios. they take western licenses and make a mobile phone style eastern mmo grinder under neath. Hard pass even tho I loved MTG.

Anything published by PWE and Cryptic is just a complete no play for me.  Wait until you see how bad the monetization is, you will think twice about wasting time playing it.
