Well, i have to agree: SoE's performance/appearance at the E3 is beyond awkward.
There are companys showing off new games, real inventions, new engines, stunning gfx, great sound fx, flawless gameplay, great ideas and visions etc etc etc.
And this "also-ran" company SoE (their time has passed) shows up with a total crappy, old and ruined game the whole gaming world is laughing about and puts a major-nervous guy on stage, announcing "visit our website to get more information" more then 6 times in 2 minutes, with shaking hand and tremblement lips ?
NO FCK ! I do NOT visit your website, i travelled 65987654 miles and spent a buttload of money to come here and you tell me to visit your website ??
R O F L !!!
And all they have is a "playerevent" which is hosted every what ? Friday anyway?
Oh my god, i feel so very sorry for EVERY single employe over there....oh oh oh...how disgusting "Hey, arent you one of the Sony guys? Did you charter an E3 stand for 150.000 bucks to announce a..*cough* "playervent".....LOLOCOPTER".
Jeez, i would really quit there and trya to get a job at Wendy's drive-inn counter, where i can put my hat that deep into my face that no1 of the other local gamercompanys recognize me ever....

Then again, how many people can play SWG with details maxed out?
The whole FPS aproach to SWG makes all the graphics pointless, since majority of people will be running 2-7 FPS, with minimum possible details. Add to that the 2 gig memory requirements, and you put a lot of people off. With a modern graphics card you can max out your details (at the expense of doubling the RAM requirements and quadrupling load times), but the frame rate stil fluctuates like crazy.
Shaders and bump mapping are cool, but none of the integrated graphics cards support them. They don't even support hardware TnL, which is a disaster for most modern games.
This is also a major factor when it comes to SWG. For what it offers, its system requirements are absurd. The graphics are "decent", but nothing to write home about. Most of the new games have higher resolution textures, considerably more detailed models, and make better use of shaders. While the people with low-end systems will still suffer, at least it becomes worthwile for those with semi-modern cards to play without problems.
SWG also uses (quite poorly) volumetric shadows, which not only have tons of issues, but also tend to look ugly in many cases, whereas there are plenty of better (visually) methods, which are much cheaper to calculate.
Unfortunately, frame rate falls under one of the unmentioned issues. It's a user experience thing, which most users incorrectly report as lag. In most cases, it doesn't get even mentioned when testing for playability, and people will report all kind of problems, which all have common cause in low framerates. And this is where the polish comes from. Having time to look at little details like that, which don't get tossed around in forums, and resolving the roots of the problem, not just patching the facade.
Yeah but SWG was released 3 years ago and it still looks better than most games out there .

I disagree by today. The game "was" better then many new games. But since the gfx changed with the NGE and patches and the gameplay as well...i think this statement has become outdated finally. Sad but true (in my book)
i hyave read the forum lately to see if any changes and reconsidered go back but is a waste of time and money after that E3 crap a players event omg u have to be Kiding after all this BS the base player is been thru the only thing they have is a player event lol.

I wasn't comparing wow to SWG. Why the hell would I compare the graphics of a game designed 5 years (6 now) ago to a game released 2 years ago?
That said: SWG's graphics (pre-CU) were far superior to WOW's. And I hate to burst your bubble but my *out of the box* Dell ran SWG (Pre NGE and Post NGE) at maxed settings with Anti-Aliasing forced at the card flawlessly with 20-25 FPS and ZERO lag. That "out of the box" system ran me a whopping $1200.
Now, when SWG first came out, yeah systems couldn't run it maxed out. But today? If your system can't run SWG on max settings (and then some) you really seriously need to seek help because you shouldn't be trying to game on it. If you can't handle SWG on max settings I'd hate to see you try to play Far Cry or one of any number of other single player games out there whos requirements blow away those of SWG.
Not sure why you are saying so much about SWG anyway. I don't play it anymore. I hate NGE and have no intention of ever playing it. I detest the changes made to the game to the point that I don't even have a Station Access Pass any longer (ok I do, but it's cancelled).
I wasn't comparing WoW to SWG. I was stating that WoW's graphics leave me cold and, by todays standards. Suck.
SWG's graphics are 5-6 years old. Get over it's graphics already. The mere fact that you CAN ramp them up to be competitive with WoW's should tell you something about WoW's graphics. In fact, if you run it at max settings, turn off Bloom in game and put Anti Aliasing on (on your video card) 4x or higher the game graphics (pre-NGE) were BETTER than WoW's. Post-NGE they did something screwy with the lighting and now the characters look plastic (no surprise, the new devs came over from EQ2... and all the characters THERE look plastic too).
But Pre-NGE? Hell yes SWG's graphics were su perior to WoW's. If you bothered to tweak them at all. And anyone who's rig TODAY can't handle SWG on max seriously needs to upgrade their PC. I was running SWG on max settings on my old 1.8 with a GeForce 5700 in it. Today's systems ship with 6000 series NVidia video cards built in.

One of the things that turned me off of Wow was the late night Lag , With my schedule it is the only time I get a chance to play .
The second major thing was the fact the game had been out for 2 years with no major additions . With the money they bring in from players , who for a long time now have been stuck in a IMO boring end game PVP structure . Is just as bad as what SWG does , to me anyway . Maybe I am just odd , Or maybe I look at the big picture .
Every major Corp rips you off , Look at Eve for an example they are a relatively small corp , But they are bringing in Big Bucks now (small dev team/ Company +big profits = plenty to go around , why spend it on the game when they can buy a big fancy house ? ) . . Yeah great game , But what have the devs done for 3 years ? They don't put money in advertising , They don't have a focus on expansions . They have never added a ground game or on station avatar interaction ( yeah I know the back story ) , But many want it .
The only thing notable they have done so far was put together a nice server system . Which still runs into problems , A little over a week ago for an example ..
But now they are doing all this stuff to the game ,which is a little fishy to me . With Vista support Directx /10. Will older Pc's really get the Umphh , they are portraying to the public ? With Microsoft clamoring around looking for Vista based franchises ,Something rubs me the wrong way .
Oh yeah they are adding some new ships Whoopie!!!!!

While one could view the post as typical anti nge i think it is clearly showing folks are now realizing over there how much of the team is left and as far as the slow publishes and development cycle of the game shows it glaringly.
As far as wow goes yes there is fun to be had but unlike other mmorpgs where i did reach end game i had no desire to in wow and took lots of breaks and often went back just for something to do.
They respond to lag and server problems by adding a bunch of new servers and in mean time servers that just a few months ago that had a hour or wait more in que appear barren now. While that is fine for low levels , wow geared end game to guild groups and raiding so getting together groups raiding on one of the now low end pop servers is just as hard to do as axcessing end game content there .
As big as there operation budget is they do not seem to have the ability to work out techincal issues of there servers. While i am sure most mmorpgs would love that problem it is not fun playing where chat lag is, death by lag, and or not moving in the more populated areas due to to many players there.
They haven't seemed to find a middle ground for there techincal issues yet
