Sigil just lost themselves my business, I won't touch anything that SOE are involved in.
I only hope this game now bombs big time to prove everything SOE touch turns to crap.
    Age of Conan anyone??

I can't help but to laugh at these posts.  I don't see the rationalization in avoiding Vanguard because of SWG.  I agree that SOE made a huge mistake with SGW, but I still play Everquest and Everquest II, which have been OK as far as development decisions by SOE.

But the thing that really gets me, and I'll never understand, is why someone would avoid Vanguard based on this, because SOE has nothing to do with the development of the game, only in it's marketing, distribution and tech support .

Sure, you can say that eventually, SOE will take over.  Who knows if that's true?  All we know right now is that Microsoft wanted things a little differently, so Sigil bought their rights to publish back from them.  SOE was interested in partnering with Sigil to take on this role, and Brad and Sigil are now able to complete the game, following their vision and making it exactly like they planned.

    So what's the problem?

    You're kidding? :S

For every copy of Vanguard sold SOE make money on it.

Some people said they would never give another coin to SOE after they wasted time on SWG, they are using the only weapon they have, their wallets.  It is the ONLY weapon we have.

    This is the problem:
    >>> only in it's marketing, distribution and tech support .

When a game and its basic mechanisms are developed, the operation is what makes the game from then on.
And exactly this is in SoE's hands.

The idea of something is one thing, the operation and ongoing "healthcare" is another.
As soon as a game moves out of the developement phase (developing, not patching/phasing) its bound to the operation - which is at least the other 50% of a game.

See, what if (i like "what if"-sentences....) the game has problems, bugs, technical flaws etc?
Not only the devs are asked to patch, the CSR's needs to support you, to help you ingame.
The billing needs to refund if the game is not playable for some days.
And there are many issues the "lifeteam" takes care of.

Exactly the same lifeteam which caused so many SoE customer to flee, because they were sick&tired of their "service".

I dont mind bugs in a certain amount, when i know they DO fix them in a short time, when i know they KNOW how to categorize bugs/issues - like "minor" and "gamebreaking".

SoE unfortunatly doesnt know that. SWG had bugs alive (major gamebreaking issues) for MONTH, before they patched them (if anyway).

Vanguard is a complex game. Its obv. that they WILL have bugs and problems too. Not only in the beginning, over the whole time, brought in with new patches etc.

Knowing that SoE is the "catalyst" in front of Sigil handling all this is enough for me to doubt their game will feel "cosy". Cosy enough to pay for.

Vanguard is not owned by SOE.

Go back.  Read my post.  I don't give a crap about SOE, I'll be playing Vanguard and I'll be one of the first there.

Oh and you're right Vanguard isn't owned by SOE oh and a development house has never ever been bourght out by a publishing house when they havn't made their targets...  Oh wait... yes they have.

I have no idea what are you talking about. If you are talking about Verant i have to inform you that SOE owned a 20% of Verant. You should know that Verant was a developer and they did not have the ownership of the EQ ip. You should know that SOE maintained Verant's staff. You should know that Smedley, the current SOE president was Verant's CEO.

Ther is a lot of myth in the Verant/SOE relationship, but if you had spent few minutes looking for information you would have found the reason behind that relationship.

I will provide a couple of links about Verant and SOE:
    link one
    Brad's bio

I will try to find more quotes later.

To the OP and anyone else leaving VG because of the SoE switch.. Go read the fking FAQ on their site.  SoE has NO control over the gameplay.  I'm personally glad this game is getting hardly any hype.  Look at RFO, got the hell hyped out of it and look at it now.

VG's going to own, even if it's for a few years and SoE does actually take over, because as of now, they have NO control over it.  What good MMO lasts 2-3 years anyway?

I don't know why we argue anymore. We do our best to make these doubters realise that they are wrong and they come up with posts like this that prove their delusions even more. The reason it doesn't get through is because we have the intelligence to realise that the article is a mistake and the reporting is innaccurate.

Then you have to ask yourself, why would SOE go to all the trouble of putting these games on to consoles? These games are designed to run through windows. There is enough trouble porting over to Mac and Linux without having to go to all the trouble of making them for the PS3. I am no expert but I am pretty sure there have to be differences. They can't even be sure that there is a market for these games on the PS3, EQOA doesn't have a huge subscription base. A PS3 will cost something like $500 and you could easily get a new PC capable of running all the old Station Access games for exactly the same price, maybe even one that will run Vanguard? So I ask again, why go to the expense of porting them across with no reasonable prediction of a huge monetary windfall? They will make enough money from console games on the PS3 and MMOs on the PC.

Even if it does happen to be true it won't result in being the be all and end all of Vanguard.

Firstly it doesn't matter if Vanguard does end up on the PS3. It will
still attract the same kind of audience from amongst console gamers as
    it would PC gamers.

Secondly, why would someone that is part of the so-called 'console
crowd'  that decides to play Vanguard be any different than someone
from the 'PC crowd'? Idiots can still buy PCs. The guy who plays console racing game and is a complete jerk that would like nothing more than to harass everyone he meets online could easily buy a PC and play Vanguard on that.

Thirdly console games and PC games are drastically different in context. People buy consoles because they want to play that style of game, not because they want to play Vanguard. Randy the skate game fanatic from Cleveland will carry on playing his Tony Hawkes game and will take next to no notice of Vanguard being on the PS3. The Smith twins from Boston will still play their puzzle bobble game on their 8th birthday and probably say that Vanguard looks boring. There would be no significant change in game demographics.

You are back to the nitpicking to try and convince us of how Vanguard is going to bomb to the lowest depths in any way possible. If this article hadn't surfaced you would have found some other article and construed it in such a way to make Sigil and SOE sound like they were consorting with the devil.

You will all see bad in this no matter what the outcome. I have done my best to convince you that you are wrong, as has Gresteh, angerr and others. If you won't play Vanguard then the hundreds of thousands of legitimate fans that will are better off. You would only trawl the forums, or plague the game with your whining about the most insignificant of problems anyway.

All hail the Pixel, for it is glorious Orange!
