Kind of weird that an 8 year old game requires Windows 10.

Not at all. The age of the product has nothing to do with what the OS requirement is if that is what they were shooting for when they converted it over. The question only becomes, "Why target Windows 10?" which can be answered because they wanted xbox crossplay. It's an xbox services game by design which requires Windows 10.

Going to stick to the JP version mainly cause of their terrible release scheme. Kind of screwed anyone who wanted to play on the PC version with console exclusive founder packs and beta rewards. All of which from what I've been told are tradeable. This gives console players an economic advantage over PC players. On top of console players getting first claim at character / ID names. Not saying I want to be entitled to those same rewards, but they should've done something for the PC community as well. I don't support platform exclusivity schemes.

Yet we wouldn't have the game if Xbox and Phil Spencer didn't go make a deal to finally bring it to the west.

"This gives console players an economic advantage over PC players."

This goes for any mmorpg if someone joins late. All those people have a economic advantage over new players. Silly complaint. I can still play on the same account so it doesn't really matter unless you don't have a Xbox or chose to wait.

I started a character in beta which they let us keep but I'm waiting for PC before really diving in.
I agree with that. Plus the Xbox exclusive stuff that you get for being in the beta's etc. weren't anything more than cosmetic for the most part.

I think the only real reason someone would want to stay with the JP version would have to do with.. well.. one being their progress, and the other being that the JP version still has content the US version hasn't gotten yet and may not get for a while.

I think I heard they just got a new update this week too? I don't really follow the JP version at all, but it popped up on my feed, something about a new release of some type. I guess if you're really into the game and need all the new stuff right away, that would be a good reason to stay on the JP version.

You mean instead of Win7, an OS that MS quit supporting 5 months ago?  Or instead of Win8, an OS that SUCKED when they released it, and really has never gotten much better?

Actually its because porting between XboX One and Win10 is a lot easier than older OS's, since XboX One and Win10 were designed to be compatible.  I think it was smart not to port to an OS (Win7) that will soon be a hackers paradise.

By the way if you're from EU, microtransactions are region blocked and the only way is to buy a gift card and then you would need an North American address. However, if you don't plan on buying anything, you can play as you like by changing your country to America or Canada and then downloading it through the Microsoft Store.

Buying includes the subscription or can I pay for that through Sega website directly.

One is f2p the other is an expansion. So no issue with choice at all here. And PS02 is only launching in the MS store not Steam or GOG. So for me i will wait for it to launch on the other platforms if it does. If not no big lose for me.

The fact that despite the tons of Asian crap MMORPGs that we've been feeding the past years,
now we'll be served and an expired one, leaves me speechless.

What TF have we become to......... my God !!!

Ahh I knew someone was going to say that.

Windows 7 was built on the same engine or kernel or whatever as XP.  So XP has enjoyed a free ride with patches and updates.  If a Win 7 patch didn't blow up XP, they released it for XP.  And most did not blow it up.

Win 10 is an entirely new engine compared to 7.  Win 10 patches for the most part won't work on Win 7.  So every time a vulnerability is found in Windows, it will get fixed in Win 10.  That same vulnerability in Win 7 most likely won't, since only 10% or so of Win 10 patches will work in Win 7.

So after a while, a lot of Antivirus companies will also quit supporting Win 7, since they are going to get an inordinate amount of blame for all of the break-ins that will happen in machines that still run Win 7.

I work in IT.  But, I am not a wizard or guru by any stretch of the imagination.  However, I work with several wizards and gurus that make about 10 times as much money as I do.  And they were the ones that explained to us last year why our company of 300,000 had to switch to Win 10 ASAP.  And, that upgrade was not free.

Totally agree. Theres always an advantage when starting early in mmo, in which you can never catchup (login gifts, event gifts etc).

Almost everyone have a PC compare to having an Xbox..launching it on Xbox first was a bad idea from the start. No serious mmo players will game on a console...

So unless you are a casual who dont really care, there's really no point playing the PC port when Xbox players have mths of progress ahead of you.

Don't give up yet.  Some players have found true love in Phantasy Star 2 Online.

The game is locked behind MS purchasing IP lock so you might aswell stay on the Japanese servers from anywhere but the U.S.

You can't buy packs or AC on your MS account.

    Current games;
    Star treck online
    Rift
    Eve online
    Firefall
