I used to smoke. Then I got really sick one time and found out I had stomach ulcers. My doctor said quit smoking and they'll go away. I quit and he was right. They all went away and I felt completely better.

Because I'm an alcoholic, too. I like drinking way too much to quit, and when you drink nicotine is much more effective/addictive than when you are sober.

Smoking cigs = Smoking poison
Many of you people say commiting suicide is weak and taking the easy way out.
So why is it ok to commit suicide over a longer period of time? Is being addicted to slow suicide a strong attribute? The strong people are the ones who know better and get off cigs and stop inflicting sickness and death onto themselves. Addiction is weak.
Even more crazy is the fact that you PAY for cigs.
Voluntarily paying for a substance that kills your insides which leads to cancer, general illness, and death IS the definition of insanity.

If you drank 3 12-packs of coke a day, it may lead to an eventual heart attack, diabetes, etc. If you smoke 3 packs of cigs a day, it may lead to eventual lung cancer, hbp, etc.
What it really comes down to is - If I'm a big enough dumbass to buy cigarettes and poison myself, you have no right to point that out and call me a dumbass. I don't tell you how to spend your hard-earned money, or critique your obvious marijuana habit (basing this statement on your previous posts), so how about you continue smoking your weed, and I'll keep smoking my cigarettes. We can call it even.
This thread makes me want to take up smoking. No, no...I want a couple double whoppers with cheese, a cigarette to puff on between bites, and adult beverages to help the food digest. And then I want my fellow americans to pay for my medical expenses through taxation and entitlement programs. Oooooh yeah.

Anyways you didn't even address the other issues. Do you want me to bring out the second hand smoke stats? I have plenty of stats. You can google them. If you're are going to smoke you can atleast do every non-smoker a favor and learn about it.
I would be ok if smokers would just smoke in private. Unfortunately I often breath it in when in public. I also have Asthma thanks to second hand smoke, so I think I have a right b*tch. Infact many people have found that marijuana actually reduces asthma and a few puffs can relieve an asthma attack. Am I going to try and find someone to sell me Marajuana and risk jail time? Nope.

As alexamore stated when you smoke a cigarette around me you are effecting me and my body, so I can also point you out and call you a "dumbass." Now I have a little more tact than that, but I would still get my point across. I would say the same thing to someone smoking weed in my presence too. If you drank your 3 dozen cans of Coke a day, I would not be personally adversly effected..I would just say go crazy with your hyper-active self.
I live in California where you can not smoke inside most establishments...it is awesome. I went to Europe and every damn place I went, there were people just puffing their life away and unfortunately there was not a lot I couild do about it being I had to occupy the same area. Ironically I left and environment where the outside air was clean but the inside air was crap to flying into LAX where the exact opposite is true. Oh well, at least the outside air is not as concentrated an amount.
All of my family, including my younger sisters have smoked or continue to smoke and I do not understand it. It also amazing how when I get sick, I am only down for a day maybe two if it is really bad and if they get sick, they are down for a week. Gee I wonder why? Lastly, I have had one grandparent and one great grandparent pass away, the rest are alive...the two that passed away cancer cause by cigarettes.
"It is easier to be cruel than wise. The road to wisdom is long and difficult... so most people just turn out to be assholes" Feng (Christopher Walken)
I never said "dumbass". I said insane and through defining insanity you can clearly link smoking to it. Just because in Hollywood all the insane people are in gowns in a padded room doesn't mean that's the only type of insanity.
I was only replying to someone because they said Vergel was weak because Vergel thought smoking should be banned based on his own personal experiences. I disagreed...

So with your same string of logic, can I gripe at you for driving a car? I'm forced to breath those fumes, too. All restaurants that I know of, with the excpetion of Waffle House, have a smoking section. I'm sorry if you might catch a scent of cigarette smoke when youre walking through the park or whatever, but it's my right. If you're going to gripe about things that adversely affect everyone, cigarettes are just the tip of the iceberg.
Oh and edit: I have no beef with weed smokers. It's not my place to tell them what to do. I don't like the smell of weed, so it adversely affects me, yet I have no right to tell them to stop.
it seems our government here in the UK has finally got the right idea about something. They are currently banning smoking in most public places, such as restaurants and pubs, which is an awesome first step. This trend should be set to continue, making it more and more inconvenient for smokers to continue with their filthy habbits, forcing them to give up!
In Australia the Govt makes the lions share of the revenue from Smokes. They make more than the producers, the growers, the retailers... anyone. So who is responsible for deaths from smoking well heres my 2c.
The smoker (sorry Im a devotee of personal responsibility
The Government, they allow it, they profit from it

I actually dont hold tobacco companies responsible in any major way. They are simply opportunists taking advantage of the fact that they are allowed to kill people leaglly. Anyone with any decent level of ambition in this world would do the exact same thing and they do.
If Governments had any level of decency and concern for public health smoking would eiyther be completely banned or limited to a point where people couldnt smoke more than 1 or 2 smokes per day, which is still harmfull but probably acceptable.
If anyone came out tomorrow and said "I have this product I want to sell, just one thing, it will definately kill you or at least make you extremely sick". It would never be allowed on the market. So why are smokes ?
MONEY!!
Governments have factored the revenue from smokes into their budgets for decades now. They would actually have to raise taxes to ban smoking. We pay to have a group of people allow corporations to kill us.
Gotta love life in the 21st century

In 2000, there were approximately 85,000 deaths attributable to either excessive or risky drinking in the U.S., making alcohol the third leading actual cause of death (Mokdad, 2004).
DRIVING RELATED
In 2002, 17,419 people in the United States died in alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes, accounting for 41% of all traffic-related deaths (NHTSA, 2003).
In 1995, 36% of all crash fatalities among youth aged 15 to 20 years were alcohol-related (Samber, 1997; NHTSA, 1997).
From 1997 through 2002, 2,355 children died in alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes; 1,588 (68%) of these children were riding with a drinking driver (CDC, MMWR, 2004).
Alcohol-related unintentional injuries
Alcohol-related unintentional injuries and deaths include motor vehicle crashes, drownings, falls, hypothermia, burns, suicides, and homicides.
Approximately 31.1% of those who die from unintentional, non-traffic injuries in the United States have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.10 g/dL or greater (Smith, 1999).
Patients treated in an emergency department (ED) for an unintentional injury are 13.5 times more likely to have consumed 5 or more alcohol-containing beverages within 6 hours of their injury compared to age and sex matched community controls (Vinson, 2003).
Violent and non-violent crime
In 1997, about 40% of all crimes (violent and non-violent) were committed under the influence of alcohol (Bureau of Justice Statistics, 1998).
In 1997, 40% of convicted rape and sexual assault offenders said that they were drinking at the time of their crime (Greenfield, 2000).
Approximately 72% of rapes reported on college campuses occur when victims are so intoxicated they are unable to consent or refuse (Wecshler, 2004).
Two-thirds of victims of intimate partner violence reported that alcohol was involved in the incident (Bureau of Justice Statistics, 1998).
Nearly one-half of the cases of child abuse and neglect are associated with parental alcohol or drug abuse (Grant, 2000).
OVERALL CIGARETTE FATALITIES
Now cigarettes do kill approximately 400,000 yearly. However, the vast majority of those are people who decided to smoke and continue to smoke.
Deaths of non-smokers (second hand smoke related) 38, 000.
I wonder how many of the 85,000 alcohol fatalities were killed by someone else that was drinking. Including traffic and non traffic related accidents. Deaths related to acts of violence committed by someone under the influence, etc. But, I didn't see a good "second hand related" (as matter of comparison) figure in regards to alcohol to match up with the second hand smoke figure. There is however, the alcohol related crime and violence aspect when looking at alcohol. There is also the psychological impact on children just growing up with drunks as parents, even if they happen to be non-violent.
It just seems that though cigarettes do a far better job killing the user, Alcohol has a far more sinister reach throughout society on the innocent bystander. But again, the data is kind of lacking from the little I've looked at. Just a quick impression from what I was reading.
As a current and long term smoker of things other than tobacco (like bannana skins) I have always found Western Governments positions on illicit substances to be completely hipocritical and 100% motivated by money with no decscernable concern for the genuine safety of the public.
My take has always been... "Ok Govt. You ban ciggies and alcahol and I will quit smoking my skins" so far we have agreed to disagree.
You cant have a "Health Dept." and condone smoking and drinking. Its just a farce!

Well, I actually wouldn't ban either myself. But, I sure don't want to be responsible for a smoker's or alcohol abuser's health bills (through medical coverage, private or government). BTW, bannana skins?! I'm going to assume you don't mean literally, bannan skins....right?
Yes I also agree on banning smoking because I used to smoke cigars about 3 months ago I admit it was very tough to quit but it is possible if you are having trouble quiting tabacco please visit some sites their are many believe me on the drinking issue I do believe it can lead to bad and dangerious thing's but it can be very relaxing and if used right now abused! I think it is ok just not to people under the legal drinking age But on the hard achohal I think it should all be banned like whiskey and tequila also moonshine if you agree with me then please dont be afraid to post here I think that smoking is very terrible and hard achohal is not very good for your mind body or soul! you can also lose friends with the abuse of achohal and other thing's of that matter so if you are over 21 and drink I am just warning you it realy does not lead you to anything good so if you agree with me on this please post your oppinions here I am just stating the truth what has achohal and tabaco actually done for the world all it has caused is death, addiction, sadness, and lost lifetime.

ok if you got addicted to cigars thats more of you mentally getting addicted, cigars(any decent cigar that costs more then 2 bucks) has little additives that arent in there for flavor and are to be smoked for taste.
the same can be said of hookas(sp for sure)
ciggarrettes are not even similar to the same tabaco. Cigarrette tabaco is full of addictives that make it addictiving, i will blundtly say having smoked both cigars are at most 1/100 as addicting(excluding ciggarrete made cigars)
98% of the teenage population does or has tried smoking pot. If you''re one of the 2% who hasn''t, copy & paste this in your signature.

Considering you don't inhale cigars, I would assume even a piece of shit havatampa would be much less addicting than a cig.
i think it should be made unaccessible in the first place.
me being a former and current smoker i can tell you that there are major problems with it.
First off at first smoking is the greatest relaxation ever it will give you immediate stress relief cheaply, and in most states minors can legally smoke and own ciggarettes even if they cant buy them
but the problem is the tobacco of today is not the same tobaco people in the old days grew up on the additives that they put in ciggarretes are not legal to put in any other substance, if coke put 1/10 of those chemicals they would be sued.
also once you start its nearly impossible to stop, and even if you stop for about 6 months like i did one drag of a ciggarette gives you the need for them again.
i personally think they should be banned.
The government isnt smart enough to ban something that causes cancer.
Brings in to much money. Even those dumbasses in New York kept buying
them after they boosted the prices up bigtime.

I don't drink any soda and I have never smoked weed. If you actually watched the video that I posted regarding weed then you would realize even the History Channel agrees with me on the weed issue. Of course you didn't do any research and just rely on the government telling you whats good and bad. Weed > Cigs. I can talk about medical marijuana and not have to use it. You know why? Because I don't need medical marijuana.

I don't like the smell of weed, so it adversely affects me, yet I have no right to tell them to stop.

replace the razor or whatever he cuts himself with, with a ciggerate
And ciggerates are a form of population control.
Anything that kills is a form of population control.
In Australia the Govt makes the lions share of the revenue from Smokes. They make more than the producers, the growers, the retailers... anyone. So who is responsible for deaths from smoking well heres my 2c.

Seriously, if we were to ban anything, why wouldn't it be alcohol first?
pulled pretty much directly from:
http://www.cdc.gov/alcohol/factsheets/general_information.htm
OVERALL FATALITIES
However, the vast majority of those are people who decided to smoke and continue to smoke.
http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/factsheets/secondhand_smoke_factsheet.htm
Wont get any arguments from me on that one Lard.

Sincerly, OldKnight

ok if you got addicted to cigars thats more of you mentally getting addicted, cigars(any decent cigar that costs more then 2 bucks) has little additives that arent in there for flavor and are to be smoked for taste.
the same can be said of hookas(sp for sure)
ciggarrettes are not even similar to the same tabaco.

The government isnt smart enough to ban something that causes cancer. Brings in to much money. Even those dumbasses in New York kept buying them after they boosted the prices up bigtime.
