Thanks a lot again for your help :).

I'll consider Najena... sounds like a good server, lol. Maybe that's the server I could try an Assassin on...

I guess I'll start leaving my LFG tag on while solo'ing just in case anyone wants to group up. I was figuring it was like most games where you were in a sense penalized because of grouping too early - thankfully this is not the case!

Easiest has been my Defiler, a shaman.  I'm guessing that priests are always the first to be scooped up.  The toughest trying to find a group has been my wizard.

Besides just leaving your LFG tag on, also note that there are level-specific channels, designed to help you find groups in your own level range.  To check which channels you have open type /channellist

If you don't see one listed for your level range, click on chat box and chose Chat Options from the selections.  In the middle of the Chat Options box are channels you can add to, find the one listed for your level range and check the box next to it

You may already be aware of all this, but I thought I'd add this just in case. Have fun!

Ah great, thanks for the continued flow of information everyone! I don't know where I'd be without you guys :P.

I'm having a good time with my Guardian so far, although I haven't tried to group up with anyone yet... my only problem is running out of energy after a few fights in a row but I guess that is unavoidable since I usually go "all out" on mobs :P. However, I read that Guardians in general have a hard time with energy because we have to use everything in order to do some DPS and keep aggro... is this true? I will have to experience it myself to find out for sure, but I'd like to know before I lose all my energry and end up killing my group :(.

Random quick question: Can the healer classes solo enough to get by when there are no groups available? Just wondering because a healer class would probably be my secondary...

    Thanks again everyone!

If you are soloing sometimes it is fun to go all out.  I love my guardian(s)  I started on Blackburrow, moved when I learned my ex played there, enjoyed Crushbone (and still do), and recently made a new guardian on Nek that just dinged 19 last night to play with a co-worker.  My new character is my first Freeport character, I usually don't like "evil" characters, but FP is such a great city I doubt I will make a qeynos character again.

Anyways.. (I digressed).. soloing a guardian is easy IF you learn early to control your power usage.  Using the specials are fun, but let your armor work for you, and if you spend money at all, buy adept1's in you taunt skills. Group often, even if just for a little bit with differant people.  Use your taunts, but even more importantly... don't.  You will see early what it takes to keep agro and how easy you can lose it if your casters go boom happy, or worse.. a backstab too early.  Use the early levels to learn what you can so by the time you are 20 you have a concept of what's needed of you as a tank/MT.

I got lucky, one of my first harvests was a Blackened Iron Cluster which I promptly sold even though I went weaponsmith for a tradeskill.  It gave me money to get 2 large bags(harvesting storage), a 28slot box for my bank, and a decent dps weapon.  A few more rare harvests and I am sitting at 70gold at lev 19 (not sure if that's a lot but it sure is nice)  Character less than week old and I love my guardian more than ever.

Also this is no exageration.  Since I started playing again after dropping shaman and going guardian, once did I go LFG and not get a group.  Everyone loves a guardian that can hold agro.

Sorry I rambled on.  I hope you enjoy EQ2

Editted Footnote-  Food and Drink!!  They will dictate your success.  Always get the best regen rate drink you can.  go to ogaming and search for drink quests if you need to but I can't survive my teens without my 30 a sec drink (says req lv is 20 but started working at 10th /shrug) I will tier up once I hit 20. no power=no taunt= useless guardian cause they sure don't invite you for your DPS rating :-/

Priests can solo, as technically every class can solo, but it is certainly slower than high dps classes.  My defiler, for example, has 3 basic attacks, not including the aoe one which is weak and rarely worth casting.  I start with a stat debuff, then a dps debuff, then begin cylcing through those 3 attacks, making sure to start a Heroic Opportunity every time its ready for recast.  On an even con no-arrow mob I will have to cycle through 3 HO chains, casting my strike spell twice for each, as my 2 dot spells are ticking down on it.  My melee skill helps, but it is a very small part of my dps, and I was even lucky enough to find a fabled weapon for him.  Acquiring imbued chest armor and sheilds can help slightly.  Other than that, only way to increase your dps would be to, of course, upgrade your spells as high as you can get them.  It is commonly considered that the Fury class has the easiest time soloing among the priest classes.  Their nukes have apparently put them ahead of some non-priest classes on dps parsers in fights that people have tested.  I have no first-hand experience with Furies, so consider that hearsay.

As to your power problems, there are only a couple of ways to increase power during combat.  First would be to group with a class that has power-return spell, like an Illusionist.  Of course, that won't help you much while you solo.  Second is to acquire items that do this.  There are a variety of items that posses the Flowing Thought ability, each returning power over time based on it's number.  For example, a peice of armor with Flowing Thought IV would return 4 points of power per 'tick'.  The problem here would be that the majority of these items don't start showing up until after level 50.  One that you can acquire prior to that would be the Golden Efreeti Boots, a heritage quest that begins in Lavastorm.  Another type of item that returns power is one with the Battlement of Mind ability, though they are most often found as loot on raids and thus will require some leveling and probably being in a guild that raids often.  The last thing I can think of would be a Prismatic Weapon.  This also requires some raiding and a large group effort to acquire.  Alot of quests are involved with getting one of these, and I recommend looking them up on http://eq2.ogaming.com/ I have the first Prismatic Weapon, and it returns 12 power per 'tick'.  There is a 2nd version of this that returns 14 per 'tick'.

Outside of combat, obviously you want to keep drink equal to your level range on you at all times.  When you find a good deal, stock up. Another item to consider are the totems. I keep these on my toons that tend to run out of power often.  They are 5-use items, and each charge last 30 minutes.  They will shape-change you to some animal when you use them, so if you don't like that make sure to type /hide_illusion while it's in effect.  You don't have to equip them on your inventory, simply drag one from your bag/containers and drop it in an empty hotkey. Press key to activate.  Two I often search for on the Broker are the Totem of the Viper, and the Totem of the Bat.  They are lower than my tier range, but they have the benifit of being cheaper.  Using both level-appropriate food together with a totem will keep downtime to a minimum.
