Oh, and 6-12 months is 6-12 months too long to wait for some of the improvements that this game needs.  Bug fixes on a bland game leaves a perfectly bland game.

OMG this one just had to make me laugh even though my ribs hurt from an auto accident...Everyone's in playing instead of posting, that's the same lie SOE tried feeding us for years.  Bloodfin overpopulated!  LOL...the reason it's lagging at that population is because a fps style game cannot handle the dynamic univers of an RPG.  Shooter style games need to be more client side....RPGs are more server side...mix the 2 and you get lag.  Bloodfin's population is no where near it was pre-CU let along at the game's peak.

Just out of curiosity, did you even bother to check the forums before posting this? There are only a few single number replies in the whole batch (most of which are new posts), with about half of them having more than 30 replies, and some having literally hundreds of replies (300+ and 600+ posts!). You can assume whatever you want about the numbers, but what you have just stated as fact is an easily disproven lie.

As is the statement that the Vets are coming back... The game is in shambles...  The ones who do come back leave after a month anyways (I am one of them). Sony is giving up on the Pc based crowd to be their saviors... They are looking ahead to the console users now...

This game is done .... there is NOTHING that can revive it. The only thing that may help is preCU servers ... but that will NEVER happen.

I think the fanbois should be required to do some reading of certain threads, so their arguments won't get shot down so easy.

The idea that "forums are inactive because people are out having fun" is an argument from silence.  No server has a "high" population yet.  Most are "low" a few medium.  (At least 2 months ago that's how it was.)  The lag is not coming from high server populations, but bad design.

If the game is not dead, then why do we have to wait 6-12 months for something dramatic?  SWG's graphics are dated.  Their gameplay is horrid.  In 12 months, much better products will most likely be out.  (such as toilet paper!)  Furthermore, you should be well aware that when the NGE comes out, once they realized it was bugged to hell, the devs said "give us 6 months and we'll fix it."  6 months later, Smedley committed hari-kari by telling the population the game in it's current state is unplayable, not fun, and basically sucks.  (that was about two months ago if i remember.)  We were once again told "give us 6 months of bug fixing.  Except for the new "content" we put in, I swear, that was only for E3!"

Added a link to Smed's post.  He didn't say it was unplayable, just unfinished.

I actually couldn't find a post by Smed asking for 6 months to finish the game (before his 3/24/06 posting frenzy).  Anyone happen to have that bookmarked?

Veterans are returning slowly, some stay, some hope to find it a lot better then when NGE came, find it still fully bugged and requiring lots of lvl grinding, not only questing, get bored, and close accounts again. They will return in a few months to check back again, probably, because their chars toke time to develop and are important to them. I haven't seen that many elders in game to be honest, and the ones I saw was either on Bestine or Mos Eisley, and yes I could not resist any longer, even if it was just to remove my last houses I wanted to make sure my chars would survive. They are retired again now, but maybe, maybe someday something changes and this game becomes fun again. For me, at the moment, it's still same crap as in NGE.

According to Iceman, there was a post when the NGE came out asking for 6 months.  "Furthermore, you should be well aware that when the NGE comes out, once they realized it was bugged to hell, the devs said 'give us 6 months and we'll fix it.'"

Then Iceman referred to a post by Smed on 3/24/06 asking for another 6 months.  "We were once again told "give us 6 months of bug fixing."  This was the one from the Friday Frenzy post.

The one I can't find is the first one.  I've seen many references to it on the forums, but I've never seen it.  I know that many things stated on the forums can be exagerated, so I like to actually read them myself.

Furthermore, the fact remains that those guys are part of a bigger group of Bloodfin exiles, and the majority of those exiles have completely sworn off the game. If they get bored of WoW and (for whatever reason) decide come back to SWG, it'll only be a temporary fix. [Edit: IIRC, the WoW guild had some 250+ members recruited almost entirely from SWG.]

Funny enough, that's SWG's main strength right now. It's the "best" SciFi MMO out there and nothing else compares. But it still sorely lacks, so it's being treated as a niche game for the next great SciFi game.

Anyway for all of the current players sakes, I hope SOE does indeed deliver this time on their promise to make the game better this year, because when a competent SciFi game comes to light, SWG will bleed to death.

I do disagree on the comment about SWG being the best sci-fi mmo out there. I myself play EVE and find it far superior to SWG, since the SWG ground game is shot to hell and JTL is just a joke (in my opinion anyway) I'd say SWG is a 3rd rate sci-fi mmo at best.

I found EVE subscriptions were slowly growing, but since the NGE have sharply risen forcing CCP to upgrade its servers. CCP now has the only non military/nuclear computer in the top 500 supercomputers in the world I believe, atleast it was true a couple of months ago. But then again many see EVE as a niche game, and I'd agree on that but I used to play Elite in the '80s when I was a kid so it's a dream come true. JTL was just a humungous disappointment, a glorified shuttle system with a realy s***y space system.

I know it was right around when the NGE came out and things got REAL bad.  Once all the bugs were around.  I just can't remember when, and I can't access the SOE forums at work.  Considering I'm building my new PC right now, no home PC, so if I gotta look, it's gotta wait lol.

Okay, Dessano...what are you smoking and why haven't you shared it?

YOU may be having fun, but YOU are not EVERYONE.  Your wild theory about lag caused by the supposed mad crowd of people playing is bogus at best.  Forums are filled with pessimism and angst from the playerbase and that's in the face of the return of draconian delete and ban tactics, despite Smed's word that that wouldn't continue.

I HAVE a char on Bloodfin that I play while waiting for one of my friends to catch up on Chilastra, and honey, if you think Bloodfin is overcrowded, you never saw it pre-CU.  THAT was my original server.  Back when I was a very happy noob, Bloodfin had more than double its current population AND half the lag it currently suffers.

I'm sure we'll see some drastic changes, but I can almost garauntee they won't make anyone happy.  The producers lost any touch they ever had with their community's needs and wants and instinctually do the polar opposite of what might improve on whatever system they slap onto the game.  The only thing that keeps many playing is what keeps ME, and that's the foolishness of Star Wars fandom and a deep attatchment to our friends combined with a truely sucktastic MMO market.

    @ Shayde
LOL!  OMG but I don't HAVE a scrotum....and I've already got a bit of metal hanging from most obvious bits.  But that WAS better, since *I* choose when it gets changed out or removed.

    @ KenshuAni
Actually, he openly admitted that the game wasn't fun.  And he's right.  The only fun in NGE is your friends.

I would rather watch the women's NIT basketball tournament with my hair on fire than play the NGE. The above is a good one as well. :)

How about "I'd rather watch a Woody Allen movie, Moonwalker and a 3 hour documentry about the works of Andy Warhol back to back than play SWG"?

Wow!  I never even heard of Moonwalker.  I applaud your knowledge of obscure movie titles.

My sister insisted on renting it when we were kids, and up until that point I'd never walked out on a movie in anyform but had always watched it to the end good or not. "Moonwalker" changed all of that, I lasted about 10-20mins.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"
