    That's bullshit.

I have a pitbull, who's six, and acts like a puppy all the time.

    Wanna know why?

Because we trained him properly and give him all of the attintion he needs daily, just like any other dog.

Are they a aggressive breed? Yes. Can they be trained properly to not act aggressive? Yes. Do your own research.

Its the owners fault, not the dogs. They wanted to play with the boy, and most likely didn't even realize that they were killing him. He was one right? Thats a tiny baby, a fucking cat would be able to kill him if it played too rough as well.

And other dogs attack humans unprovoked as well, not just Pit Bulls. For fucks sake, Dobes, Rotties and German Shepards do it just as much. Should they be illlegal too? No.

Train your dogs properly. If you can't handle having a natural born aggressive dog, let alone four, than don't even bother getting them.

Haven't got to the rest of the thread yet, but I agree with exactly what you are saying.  I had a friend with 2 pit's both the most loyal and playful dogs you would ever hope for.  It is always on the owner to train and treat them properly.

I will always be more concerned about the dispositions of Chow-Chows and Dalmations before being concerned about a pit. Again, that is with all things being equal.

It would be a good idea.

Smoke, who's six, still goes to behavioral classes twice a month. Just so he remember to behave when he should, like walking outside or when strangers come over. It gets settled into their minds for awhile, but it can also just wash away if you're too easy going on them, especially a Pit.

But this can go for any dog. It's just a reminder really, of who's in charge and what they should do and what they shouldn't do in certain circumstances.

Of course, I still think you should have a certain training level and license when owning a Pit Bull.

It isn't the dogs fault he/she was born a Pit Bull and hated by so many just for being that breed. It's not like they got to chose what breed of dog they were going to be, when they are hated so much from lack of education from people. Most just see a agressive dog that has the power to kill. But most dogs, standard sized and big, have the power to kill, not just them.

To be honest, Im glad we have Smoke. He was going to be put to sleep if someone didn't adopt him the day after we did. So we got him just in time, because no one wanted a Pitbull puppy that was abandoned on the side of the street. ( His first owners, when he was just like a month old, dropped him off on a side of a high way and drove off. Nice eh? -.- ) So he'd be dead if we didn't get him.

Why? Because he's a Pit Bull. But also a dog that just wants love, attintion, and yes, even respect. This is an animal that was once trained to kill, and that alone demands respect from anyone. And they deserve it, with the way people are treating them now.

Train your dog correctly, and you can have a best friend for life. But keep in mind, no dog, or friend is perfect. Just as humans have flaws we'll never get rid of, so do dogs. So do Pit Bulls, and it really isn't their fault.

    ^^

-Gasp- Draenor, we agreed on something! Scary, no? :D
I agree, I see these dogs on Animal Precinct occassionally where people are training some for fights. They do followup to see how the dogs are doing and sometimes its good and sometimes its bad.

Heres a quick scenerio. Someone takes their dog out for a walk and there are 10 other people in the neighborhood also walking their dogs.

Which dog is more likely to make a bee-line for another dog? A dachschund or a pit bull?

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Depends on how well trained both dogs are.

It neither are trained, than it can be either.

If both are trained, it can go either.

If only one is trained, than it will most likely be the other.

But than again, they are both dogs, animals, so even with or without training, anything is possible.

The problems with pitbulls are simple, but alot of people tend to ignore them.

    A) They were BRED for fighting. Look up why they're called Pitbulls. They were and quite often still are bred specifically to be killer dogs.

    B) People buy them because they are mean. They are seen as a dangerous dog for good reason, but people buy them so they can feel cool. They want to feel tough or be a "thug" so they buy a killer dog.

    C) People can't be trusted to treat the dogs properly. This is more signifigant with pitbulls because of the above two reasons.

In short, this is a breed that was made to be a killer. We do not need a breed of dog specifically mean to attack and kill things. That's not a proper role for a dog. People can't be trusted to know what they're getting in to, and they can't be trusted to raise the dog properly. In my opinion every last pitbull should be put to sleep and the entire breed should be wiped out.

If anyone can give me a good reason why we need a breed like pitbulls, feel free to enlighten me. Until I hear anything that makes sense, I say the breed needs to be removed.

Did you even bother reading anything that I said regarding this issue?

So you have no problem with the police comming into my home and taking away my dog, that has never done a damn thing wrong, and kill him? Simply because he's a Pit Bull?

Fuck that. I'll murder anyone that tries to take Smoke away and kill him. No one has any right to even come near my dog with that kind of mind.

Yes he's a Pit Bull, but he should NOT be punished simply because he is part of a hated breed. He had no choice, it's not like he, along with all other Pit bulls, got to chose their breed that they were going to be born. It isn't their fault.

Killing them wont solve a damn thing. To me thats like mass murder, killing innocent dogs that didn't do anything wrong. Being punished just because some dogs in their breed are "bad" while not all are.

I'll say it again, people should get a training class before they buy a Pit Bull, and than have a license basically stating that they can handle such a dog.

And just because someone things it's an ugly dog doesn't mean everyone does. It's not very "pretty" or "cool" looking to me either, but I don't care much for the looks. It's the animals personality I fall inlove with, not they're damn looks.

My sentiments exactly. I don't care if other people can't control their animals. It's not the dogs fault. And anyone that comes for my dog better have damn good life insurance. I take care of my dog, I watch my dog, and since I haven't had one problem with her in 6 years, I'd say me AND my dog are doing a pretty good job. People who don't like pits, or any other dog, are entitled to their opinion. But noone will ever tell me what dog I am or am not capable of having. And for anyone to advocate the destruction of ANY dog or other animal with no more justification than "they don't like it" or "everybody says they're bad, so they must be" makes me seriously wonder what else they could feel good about killing if they suddenly didn't like it/them.

Hrm, what was that story. About a woman who owned a "pit" for about 12 or so years, treated the animal like a best friend, had no history of violence, and then out of the blue mauled her to death.

Some animals have a strong tendency towards "snapping", pit bulls are one of them.

I don't care who the owner is, or how it was raised, those animals should never be let outside within the vicinity of a neighborhood. They're bloody crazy.

I would tend to call that woman who was mauled by her long term pet pitbull a complete fluke...It was the exception, not the rule.  Again, I'm not saying that pits are not agressive by nature, because they certainly are...but the woman that got mauled was completely out of the blue, and shouldn't be taken as a solid reason for not owning the dogs altogether.

Owning a pit bull is like owning a gun.

Train it all you want, its killer instincts will remain.

I think people generally treat their dogs too well. The dog has to understand that it is the least valuable member of the family. It needs to understand that it eats last.

You make it watch the baby eat first, then the adults eat, finally you let the dog eat last.

You never let it eat at the same time as the rest of the family, this tells the dog that everybody in the "pack" has the same rank, and the dog perceives itself as being as important as the children, so it will seek to assert dominance by "roughing them up."

The poster above who was like "boo hoo I love my dog" prolly lets it eat the same time as he eats, and prolly spoiled the hell out of it.

As a result his pit bull is a murder waiting to happen yet he does not realize.

Same goes for the German Shepherd but at least the Shep wasn't bred to be a killer. It might be aggressive, it might try to assert its dominance, but thats not the same as being viscious.

I don't support killing off Pit bulls.

Then again I don't support gun control either.

Actually, no. My dogs do not eat with the family. They also are not fed "human" food, table scraps, etc. Also, noone is allowed to feed them but myself. That serves two purposes: 1) it keeps accidents from happening and 2) noone can feed them anything harmful. As far as "spoiling" them? They have chew toys, I play with them and pet them every day and I make sure they are fed, watered, taken to the vet when needed. So if that's spoiling them, then I guess I do. And yes, I love my dogs. Boo hoo.::::12::

What I don't understand is the appeal of pit bulls...
Let's see, you want a big dog? Get a Lab or Retriever, or a Great Dane, or about 30 other big dog breeds.
You want companionship? Get a toy dog, or a mid-size breed. These are bred for companionship, not killing.
You want protection? Get a doberman. They are equally protective and much less deadly.
You want to "stick it to the man" and own a breed that is know to snap and was bred for violence? Own a pit bull.

Regardless of what you tell me, your argument is void. Pit Bulls, as Blurr stated, were bred for violence. Regardless of how you train these dogs, that violence is bred into the dog itself.

Dogs, of any kind, should never be left alone with a child.  I hope this never is allowed to happen again.  The guy lost his son and could possibly be sentenced to jail for murder.
