Why do people even compare EQ1, EQ2 and SWG to Vanguard? Oh, the first three ones got influenced by SOE? That's right. SOE owns the IP rights to EQ1, EQ2 and SWG, meaning that they can very much influence the developement of the games if they like. But, SOE does not own the IP rights to Vanguard, meaning that SOE cannot interfere with Vanguard developement or any in game content at all.

SOE is the co-publisher of Vanguard, they provide Sigil with servers, marketing and billing...thats all they are going to do. Sigil owns the rights to Vanguard, they are the ones who develope the game, offer in game support and so on.

Allot of people can only see the SoE sign. What ever the reason was for Sigil to leave MS is I  believe it was for the better. This game is so in portent for Sigil, they will not take any chances and that is one of the reasons they bought back the rights. And as you said Sorje people don't understand that SoE is only a Co-Publisher and can't do anything to the game.

SOE will not be the deal breaker for me on a game that has yet to come out. So at this point, yes I am still interested in Vanguard, time itself will tell.

What will convince or dissuade me? The official  forums of the actual game itself. The community. How they present themselves there will dictate whether or not I would be interested in putting my foot in that realm to begin with.

Because if not an attractive or appealing community(not talking about physical attraction here to clarify)  on the forums, I doubt I will see much difference in the game in regards to the potential player base. (basing this only on my 7 years of mmorpg playing)

What was occurring here is what draws me to the official forums to start with. I don't post much here, but I watch, I read. And I go check out for myself.

Be wary of one thing when you defend a game you love, do not become the thing you hate in the process.

Even though people (and I am not just referring to this game in particular but all games that are discussed here), you represent, even inadvertently, what the community could potentially be there.

One player's great game is another players derisive snort!

its too late ... sigil the "indie company to make things right" .. the guy with the pure " vision" over the thirst for money .. has started along a slippery slope ... do one thing in the " best interests of the game" and most likely other decisions " for the best interests of the game" will follow ...

as far as the people defending vanguard i agree in that its too early to tell ...

the game may be a good one ... do i know think so? no .. i think it will be boring ...

but it may turn out good or may turn out to be something that certain type of people enjoy...

we'll see if this just doesnt just turn out to be a dissapointment and a flop .. or a success ..

but let me say this ... one thing which i think sucks is the fact that we will never really be able to measure the success of vanguard .. since it will be available on the station all access pass .. and since people subscribing to the playstation 3 pass willl also be able to access the game through that subscription ...we will never be able to truely measure the success of vanguard ...there wont be enough single subscribing people to tell

    Ehh

    1) PS3 people will not be able to access Vanguard.

    2) Unless they have drastically changed their All Access feature, you still need to buy the game in order to play on the all access pass. It is just that the monthly fees are connected. You don't subscribe for $25 a month and get EQ, MXO, EQ2, Planetside (Well that is free now I think), Vanguard, and whatever else is on there for free.

You have to buy the separate games, then the monthly fee is not $15 per game, but rather $25 for all.

    Quote from their site

    ---------

The subscription charges are in addition to the cost of the games that are part of the Station Access subscription package. All game software is sold separately or as part of the Station Access Collection.

    ----------

So. Single box sales of Vanguard will still be just that, single box sales. If you don't buy the box and get the key, you won't be able to play it.

I hope Vanguard will have enough of a large player base to make Sigil go around. So they can continue developing the game and in the future make new games. I don't believe Vanguard will attract as many people like WoW. I hope that all the players out there that are waiting for something is style with Vanguard will play it and make a great community.

Because frankly if Vanguard don't succeed it will send a signal to all the other game developers "hey let's skip all new thinking and go for a WoW clone" I want a game where I can spend hours on just playing around with my house, craft items, explore and so on. I need a game with multitude. Maybe I'm wrong but the mmorpg genre feels like it's becoming like todays buy and throw away trend. You buy something it becomes obsolete in 1-3 years and you buy something new. And I fear that is what we will see in the mmorpg genre in a near future.

WoW was the game that made me realize this because I felt that the time I spent on WoW was totally worthless I did not look back at it thinking it was worth the while and a fun experience, It was a waste of time and I started to look for something new to play. I had never felt that about any other mmorpg game that I had played for a longer time.  But I realized that there was no new game that would give me all that I was looking for, and all the upcoming games just had the feeling they also would be repetitive and have no variation.

    Then I discovered Vanguard.

The funny thing about all these threads is......You people still here complaining will probably play it anyway. Otherwise you would have moved on by now, don't ya think?

For example, I hate poop sandwiches. If I'm someplace that only serves poop sandwiches, I leave and go buy a burger. If I stuck around the place, it's a little harder to say I don't like the poop sandwiches.

well maybe youd hang around a POOP sandwich place just to watch the facial expressions of people eating poop
