I can't believe I've been waiting for this game longer than I waited for Darkfall Online. Fuck. But it's all right. Just wish the forum on CU was as fun as the one on DFO (Forumfallers, never forget the Christmas Eve Porn thread).
LMAO NPC pathing made out to be something special, this is a bog standard feature which can be knocked up in a couple of weeks at most by a mediocre programmer.

The challenge is supposed to be in the fact that in this game the terrain can be changed during combat on the fly by the players, which means the pathing needs to constantly be updated.
But yeah, "beta" since mid 2018...
Yep "beta" since 2018, and in the state of which any other game calls alpha.
Bits n pieces are nice to talk about but the game needs to be a cohesive design and with a purpose.
The pathing for example is pointless if the npc's have nowhere important to go and players have no reason to care where they go.
The reason I gave up on mmorpg's is because NOBODY gets it right from the BASIC core design. You need to start with a world that has good pathing "YES",good scripts for those npc's and a world that has interaction AND an ECO system. You see those NPC's should fear the surroundings just as we do,it is a world and it should act like one.
Realm versus Realm.....WHY,why are these realms fighting with each other....just because?Characters are typically more like robots than lifelike characters, they don't need to eat drink or sleep, are they even living at all or just some paper doll 2D model we slap gear on and tag it as a class.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
20 years from now in a far far galaxy MJ will still be talking about half assed development of this game, I imagine even the die hard DAOC fans have just lost hope of any kind for this game to be released seven eight years later no real public testing of any kind hum.....

Gah, only thing I got from Forumfall was developing my skill at arguing with libertarians.
On topic, Darkfall is probably an apt comparison. It was resoundingly mocked as being "vaporware" throughout development, but then it came out, albeit too early (probably in part to respond to vaporware claims). Both also have small studios behind them. I also always expected Darkfall to come out just like I expect Camelot Unchained to come out. Darkfall had some clear design problems, though, which is not something I worry about with CU given MJ's experience and what's playable so far.

I mean, there's a large amount of lore written up for the game that's publicly accessible that explains the "why", but sure.
people can be dismissive but I guarantee their is still a core Dark Age of Camelot community waiting intensely for this game.
I dunno man. I think I should be one of those as DAOC is my all time favorite game... but I can't even open up and read the Emails MJ sends out any longer. When I see "PR" articles like this it just makes me sigh. Maybe if this was 2015/16... but not 2020/2021.

I think its great the game got a navigation system, now it no longer drifts aimlessly in the lonely seas of development for ever more. Ohh wait, it isn’t about that...

For those keeping score at home, back in 2019 Mark kept to the position the game might potentially launch in some form by year's end, not retracting from that date until late November, early December.
This 1.0 navigation system seems to be a core design deliverable which should have been well in place before ever promising any sort or release date, yet here it is going live for the first time almost a year later.
Any wonder why folks find it difficult to take anything he says seriously or even valid?

“just wanted to add here how happy we are -- we now have NPCs that can run around player-built structures.”
Amazing...
Not. Somehow I've managed to play the "one in a hundred" games which have NPCs which can well navigate their way around player built structures....FO76.
What apparently has been an underappreciated feature (by me) is Bethesda added "companions" and wandering NPCs earlier this year who rather brilliantly can make their way around any player's camp even while in a real time build state.
They remarkably climb stairs cases, utilize chairs, sofas, beds, crafting stations, weight benches, shooting galleries, and Mr Fuzzy amusement rides, in a variety of ways some times.
They will even make comments about the difficulty of staying in shape, or remark about the condition of an item that's been placed, making the game world really come alive.
Keep in mind, camps in FO76 can be built almost anywhere, from the level lawns of White Springs to the towering crags of the Savage Divide with almost infinite diversity of build design, yet from Day 1 these NPCs have accurately pathed their way through it all in real time.
While the game has often been slagged (and rightfully so) there are many features such as this which give it a quiet brilliance in terms of designs which keep me playing on.

Amazing...
Minecraft and all it's clones called from 2009 back when they not only had NPCs navigate player made structures, in REAL TIME no less, but they would explode taking out surroundings.
What's next moving a nameplate and taking a screenshot and including that in an update...
This isn't just lipstick on a pig it's make up on a clown.

So he's a liar, incompetent, or both.
These updates are all really basic stuff that should have been done long ago. Well at the very least done before announcing working on a new game or hinting at a launch.
It's pathetic.

So confused? Is this newsworthy or sad that they announced it as newsworthy? I'm the latter.
Send more "Art" of weapons or something...
Afaik they send one update a month to their backers. It's a good practice to make regular updates whether you've got something newsworthy or not.
It's up to websites like MMORPG.com to decide when that monthly update has something big enough that it makes into news.
It's not like websites trying to cover MMORPG news as their main focus are overwhelmed by the quantity of news and need to make hard decisions about what to cover and what to leave out
Smirking about sites covering the trivial stuff is really smirking about the state of the MMORPG genre.

The saddest part is there are still people out there who support and even donate hard earned money to scams like Camelot Unchained and Pantheon. People will never learn. Chronicles of Elyria is back too, maybe they should give Caspian more funding. Laughable.
