Go play WoW noobs..

NaturallyNaturally Member UncommonPosts: 28

I love how people gripe about Shadowbane being too hard to level or too hard of controls or just "sucking". After playing the game sense it was released i have found it is not a game for noobs. This is good because all the noobs leave to play WoW and all the hardcore mature people with skill stay and play. As for leveling.. I have multiple account and can duel log macro level myself so thats no problem. I have an amazing computer so lag isnt really an issue ever. The controls are just fine, the game is quite old so it could be improved. Overall.. no other game i've ever played can top the fun i've had playing Shadowbane. You just can't beat such great pvp and building and destroying cities. So please stop whining about how it sucks as it is your opinion and it is fine that you think that, but dont gripe just because you have no idea how to play the game to begin with.

I don't really get what makes a person a noob if they think a click-to-walk interface is technologically inferrior to keyboard movement... Or if they think the outdoor monster grinding is tedious. I'd also call having more Windows than Bill Gates a bad move, myself.

It's only my opinion.. I just hate it when people post hate posts about Shadowbane when they don't even know how to play the game. It appears they just get frustrated with some aspect of the game and go post about how the game totally sucks.

Actually i think one of the most recent reviews of Shadowbane was where i saw this to be specific lol. Indeed someone did say he couldn't get past lvl 20 or something because he kept getting pked and it took 10 mins to get out to any leveling spot. Your right it isnt hard to level... it takes 1-2 days to get to 70.

I, for one, am glad there is a place for all the real Sociopaths to go and interact with one another.     May Shadowbane live long, and prosper.

Uhh ya, macro leveling with dual accounts sounds SO cool and fun. So you DO know how to play the game but you have to macro level with 2 accounts to accomplish it? ::::06::

And the game is so great after a slow miserable death the dev team had the plug pulled on them. ::::07::

I am very interested in this game. I watched my friends play WoW and it doesn't appeal to me. It is too dumbed down and too easy to level up. People seem to like things handed to them and be spoon fed. I do not.

For you Shadowbane vets may I ask the following....

How old is the game? Is there player housing? and how is the PvP?

Not meaning to hijack the thread, I just figured most people who reply to this thread are probably vets and very knowledgable in this game.

    Thx

Its been out for quite a while, around 4 years? Anyway, I've played off and on quite a bit sense it was released and had more fun playing Shadowbane than any other game. As for housing... you can build cities and empires! Now adays it's harder to own your own city though, it use to be that you could just build a city anywhere you wanted, but they changed it to create more havok and the need to bane (Attack) another cities. You can build walls and guard buildings to hire guards and many other buildings including forges to make your own gear. You can also take over mines to produce resources for your city to make even better armor. As for PvP, you wont find any other game with as many ways to play each character as i was saying in my earlier post. You can choose a class and build it so many different ways its insane. Its free to play now so don't hesitate trying it out. But be warned that its not a game to play solo. PvP is a heck of a lot funner in groups or joining a big guild is what i suggest. They will help you level and maybe even gear you up.

    fuck everything, i love shadowbane

Now this is where I do agree with Naturally. Dissing Shadowbane because it has PVP is like putting down Counter Strike because people try to shoot each other. There isn't any call for it in my opinion.

Where I disagree is that people get depressed and leave because the game is confusing as hell when you first start up. The thought of lowering my attributes to buy traits was an utterly foreign concept. Over its four years of life, the devotees of Shadowbane have managed to distill the entire game down to a sequence of two letter codes. The vast number of choices is nice but without something relatively straightforward you might as well stare at the character creation screen and try to figure out how many permutations of kits, races, base classes, and traits there are. At level ten where you choose your profession, you've still got essentially no idea.

Some of the monikers on the classes are atypical as well, in relation to what people actually seem to do with them. Like Mage Assassins and Unarmed Combat Rogue Assassins. Someone new to the game isn't going to look at the word "Assassin" and think "spell casting" or "hand to hand".

What would help would be a reasonably complete newb-class/kit guide. Just one to explain what the real deal is and teach the game mechanics.

    And an SB dictionary. ::::15::

Shadowbane dosent start untill your done leveling jackass. Its not like others where levels 1-70 are to learn the game, levels 1-70 are where you meet people and get friends and a guild, then once you hit 70 you can start playing shadowbane. (when i say "70" i mean once your toon is pretty much done)

This game isent about a dumbass pointless grind to the max level like ALLLLLL other mmorpgs. Having to level a toon up is basicly just another thing to fight people over. (other guild comes and wipes your lowbie group, your guild gears up and go stomps them back.) Its just another thing to fight over, like mine fights and banes and whatnot, thats what the game is about, fighting, not gnome fucking and computer controled monster fighting. "AMG MOM I TOTTALY BEET THIS MONSTER UP!@! LOLL IM UBER"

I agree Zero, Shadowbane isn't like other mmorpg's in the aspect that other take weeks or months to get anywhere.. With Shadowbane you can create a guy and with a day or two know if he's going to be any good or make another. You get strait to the fun part, PvP, which is what Shadowbane is all about! I can understand that it all may be hard for someone new to take in though with old timers knowing exactly which runes to take and how to build their characters godly.

eh QFT.....not my favorite guild, but tyhere are the best right now.lol i used to think BC was the greatest until my town died(chasm reborn :p) but yeah, there not that great so i lefty.but w/e.

  • NaturallyNaturally Member UncommonPosts: 28

We were with BC too for a long time, I think the main problem with BC was we we're never using vent enough and we we're too messy at pvp. We lost because we didn't have things planned out enough. Harl/Barack was a good guy though.

My problem with shadowbane is the team supporting it is being canned.... and they haven't come out and said what they're doing with the game.  Supposedly we'll know more after the 15th... I have it installed because I had planned to play it for free... but I'm going to hold off doing anything with it till after May 15 so that I know what I'm getting into.  I don't feel like investing any time in the game till I know for sure it's going to be around or not.  And, if so, if it will remain free or not.  Shadowbane, to me, isn't worth a monthly fee... but for free it's certainly something I enjoyed playing.  Just not enough for a fee.

well, to some people it might not be fun, becuase there all used to quest and stuff, but id pay monthly, i think the open pvp stuff is what makes it a great game, and i really want to see another game like it so if it does shut down, i can still have as much fun

    so·ci·o·path   Audio pronunciation of "sociopath" ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (ss--pth, -sh-)

    n.
One who is affected with a personality disorder marked by antisocial behavior.
um, so if you're a sociopath, you wouldn't be in a guild because you're antisocial.  isn't being part of a guild 1- the point of this game and 2- necessary to survive?

whereas, say in a game like wow, you can lvl to 60, get on pugs for most any/every thing (depending on the server, yes, even for big bads like Rag); and never have to be in a guild?  you can pug pvp in BGs and get all sorts of high end/end game equipment without ever having been in a guild.

yes, i think wow is where a sociopath would be able to prosper.   i don't believe they would be able to prosper in a game which requires people to work together constantly in order to achieve goals.

the game's been out for a few years.  aren't there player guides on the website?  sort of like all the mmo's out there?  or maybe fansites (alla, stratics, etc) which might have player guides?

i mean, i understand if this is your first online game, you wouldn't think to FIRST look at the official forums and check the multigame fansites.  but if you've played any mmo for more than the free period, you've bound to have been directed to the various sites a bazillion times.  unless of course, you just want people to think you're too stupid to read, and/or play an mmo in windowed mode and just alt/tab to your browser to do a quick search on alla for your question).

for me, i read a few guides while the software was downloading.  knowledge is power, and even in beta testing, you'll find a wealth of information on official forums (and possibly fansites as well).  the days of GOOD documentation that comes with the games are gone.  mmo's change too quickly and too often for said documentation to be worthwhile.  companies are too cheap to keep manuals updated, or to send even free virtual updates to people who've bought the games.  shame on them.  something like that would help players overlook other flaws in a game.

so um, to summarize... tell people new to the MMO-genres that they have to get over their fear of reading.  they have to actually sign up on a couple of fansites and official forums and sit there and read and then ask questions.

besides, would you rather ask questions to random folks ingame (who might be irked because they rightfully believe you're stupid and/or lazy and therefore give you bad information), or would you rather ask on a forum, where there's actually folks who are helpful (maybe bored at work/home, or just naturally helpful) and will give you detailed information?

    bleh, i like chocolate.

This game owns you in the face, I've been playing off and on since release, I played WoW for 10 months, long enough to figure out everything I hated about that POS game.  When SB dies [it's like a cockroach and I love it!] DFO or AoC better be out dammit lol, DFO is taking far too long, it makes me sad.

OPP, I haven't seen OPP since Vengeance and even then it seemed to be a brief stint or they just lacked the playerbase or something, they were fun to fight on Dread though.

I am curious to see wtf SBG is going to do with the game. Be nice if the revamped some stuff, spice the game up a little bit, nothing lame like "instances" or what not just, I dunno, SOMETHING!  WTF EVER HAPPENED TO INTERSERVER TRAVEL! That would have been some sick shit if they could have pulled it off.

Anyways, all this talk about SB makes me wanna go PK, so, yeah, outtie.

Best thing about shadowbane,  it doesn't tend to the noobs.  You can gimp your char on here badly,  You will always have someone who can beat you.  There is just so many ways to make 1 char,  its Mind Jarring trying to Think up the perfect one. Pvp has no Rules,  And the world is almost completely Controlled by the players.  If the whole server is in chaos, Random Pks. You'll have it. If poeple decide to band together you get an alliance, and of course you get enemies just as fast.  If you go back and talk about the past with old shadowbane Wars,  Its like a Book.  And the story is always writing it self,  No other game can have so many twists and turns.  The mass of players Controls it all....  So much more to this game than what you see at first glance.
