New trends in online games in general never cease to amaze me. First, founder's packs came, then DLCs, then early access, then founder's pack combined with early access, then fake/fail kickstarters, then, early access for games in beta. What's gonna be next? In a few months, we will see kickstarters for founder's packs for early access for pre-alphas. The thirst for money is leading the gaming industry to rot.

P.D.: I expect D2 remake to be the repetition of WC3 reforged.

if i say anything negative about people who come into articles and cry and whine and rant about how old they are and "back in my day" kind of crap, i get my comment deleted, so i won't

personally im hyped for it, im just really REALLY annoyed every single game is waiting and releasing stuff on august 12. probably for fiscal quarter reasons, but man, i have like 10+ games releasing stuff on that same day, even private betas of major AAA games same day.

i still will definitely try this open beta, and probably buy day 1, it will be tons of fun! I sunk like thousand+ hours into the original game, it will be like nostalgia overload.

I'm still on the fence for two reasons. The combat is really not great at all as that part of the game has aged horribly. I also don't trust them to make the current mods possible in their new client with more protections. The best mods require access to the client files to modify them and I don't think mods are anywhere near a priority for them.

$40 is price gouging imo but I guess that's a minor issue.

I is amazing how Blizzard can charge 60-80+ for something like this.ARPG's are real cheap games to make and we have seen for years POE is as popular and to some people a better game.
You can then understand how they can spend 100 million on a Kotick or Morhaime and other top execs.

There is a LOT of overhead at blizzard,a lot of mouths want to be fed from every game.

Yes this is just a reskinned game as they are offering classic graphics or the new paint job.Imagine some idiot buying the original game ...again lol.Gameplay will be the same,in otherwords this is a HIUGE massive ripoff,60+ bucks for a new paint job...LAZY overpriced work.
I also wonder about Blizzard shutting down early modding claiming it was a security threat ..lol,i am not buying that excuse.
The truth is they didn't like players playing pretty close to the entire game off the Alpha build meaning they wouldn't have to pay for the release cost of 60 or 80.

Yes you are correct about the massive overhead. But frankly POE is a pile as soon as they went away from the quick timed sessions. That was innovation that they killed. I enjoyed the 1 hour get as far as you can events. They were fun. The 4 hour leagues. Awesome.

Instead I haven't even made it to the final act (Highest is 7)

D2 I've devoted more hours in that game than any other game I've ever played....

It's $40 with no cash shop. Sure, POE's cash shop is pretty much optional (minus storage). Seems pretty equal to me.

Warcraft 3 Reforged. Will not be being any remasters after that shitstorm. No thank you.

Well, video games aren't made out of dairy so they don't spoil.

I would say more old games should be remastered to keep them current. I'd pay fair price for a real update of masters of Orion II and especially Andromeda.

I would add Morrowind to the mixture but we'll see how well the mod project is if they finish it.

D2 is one of my all-time favourites, and I'd gladly pay for a version with 60+ fps and widescreen support. The team making it has great remaster pedigree too. That said, they've also been absorbed into Blizzard. While I don't doubt the game will be quality (unlike WC3 Reforged), the myriad of problems in the last month on top of ActiBlizz just generally getting worse makes it an easy pass for now.

People keep bringing up Reforged. We already know it was awful, there is a video on how bad it really was behind the scenes.

Starcraft Remaster was great though, a wonderfully done modernization of a classic.

So in my eyes Blizzard are 1 for 2. Considering VV is who is working on it anyways, they have a good track record and their most recent remaster Tony Hawk 1+2 saw great success.

Besides, I bought D2:R with WoW tokens. Gotta put that gold I won't touch anymore to use somehow.

You make a good point. One bad or "less than good" offering doesn't mean all offerings are going to be that way.

If it was, most of us might be unemployed the first time we made a whopper of a mistake.

"Well, Aori, hate to say this but you only ordered 100 widgets but needed 1000. there's no way you could possibly learn from this mistake so you're fired. Here's a box for your stuff and a branded paperweight and T-Shir and Boris the Security Guard will show you out."

I'm ok with a company making a mistake and then me waiting to see if there next offering is better.

My third post today which has in one way or another recommend players until after launch, I will certainly be looking at it then. I don't play remasters, they are just studios fleecing players for old rope in my eyes, but I have never played Diablo either 1 or 2 so yes please. :)

It's fine to feel that way but you also have to remember this, boycotts will only hurt the employees, the majority of which had nothing to do with anything.

This is also a company who a few years ago made massive profits, gave their CEO a massive bonus, and then laid off hundreds of employees anyways. I can understand the argument from both sides, but likely little will change anyways until some internal action happens. Until that time, it's easy to not want to give that company money.
