Why does a 30 year old game with new skins need a beta?
Oh I don't know... ensure there aren't any graphical flaws, issues with the new resolutions, and other potential issues that may have resulted from redesigning the game as it looks like they're going to fully support mods now. That's my hunch.
What a load of crap.
They've blocked P2P multiplayer where majority of D2 mods reside. RIP mods, actually.
I don't want to sound a down note based on five seconds of a video, but having only just checked the graphics they seem a tad old to me, I must admit I thought the remaster would...remaster more?
It could have been more for sure, but perhaps they felt it better not to go further. They are counting on nostalgia for sales to some degree and they may have felt much more would have negatively impacted on that.
Why does a 30 year old game with new skins need a beta?
It''s not a 30 year old game. It's a new game based on a 30 year old one. Changes were made beyond the aesthetic. It needs beta like any other new game.
Is it really? They didn't even work on improving the 21 years old animations. Watching characters animation in 2021 makes my eyes hurt. Movement/animations/UI/skills/combat/storyline/monsters/locations/classes, everything is exactly the same, with "better" graphics. I say "better" because we are in 2021, and taking into account that they are blizzard, they can do a WAY better job with graphics, they are just too lazy to do it.
I ask again, is it really a new game? Because I don't think so. I'd say is a face-wash of a 21 years old title. I'm not saying it's good or bad, I played a hell lot of D2 back in the days, but sorry, I'm not paying any money for a cheap face-wash. I'd rather play the old one to be honest.
Bought it, as i loved Diablo 2 back in the days. The graphical upgrade is superb.
The mechanics, are old. Inventory management is a chore, as potions doesn’t stack and some items take 8 squares in your inventory.
The charms mechanic is horrible, it takes up even more of your inventory space. They should’ve added a charms inventory with room for 2 large and 2 small charms.
Furthermore, corpse runs..I’m so over those.
I’ll dabble a little when the first Ladder goes live, but don’t figure I’ll stick around for more than the first
What they are doing to Diablo II is sacrilege, that game was perfect when the old studio operated the servers for it.
Could you elaborate? Because I am going through the differences with a fine comb and this is an extremely faithful version as far as I can see. And I have quite the Diablo obsession and history. Or is this purely server related?

I find it all glorious. I am having a ton of fun. One of my favorite ' it's just fun' games of all time brought to modern standards that plays well on my ultrawide monitor. Awesome times.
Yeah, it is definitely glorious, outdated, clumsy mechanics and all. They even used the old audio over the new CGI because the original was that good.
Only actual differences I have noticed is a toggle to auto-loot gold (I have it turned off) and some basic tooltips. That is it, and its all the better for it. Including me trying to zoom in for the thousand time with nothing happening

ZZZzzz...the lawsuit...unionisation...zzzZZZ. For heavens sake no one at Activision sneeze or we will have an item about someone sneezing, plus the obligatory rehash of what you would have to have been hiding under a rock not to have heard about.
Looking forward to the launch, happy to wait until then as I have never played the franchise before and always felt I missed out.
It's just bizarre to me that anyone believes a union would have prevented any of this from happening to these women. Anyone who has ever worked for or known members of a union know that the union would have 100% done everything to cover this up and protect the asses of the senior members, telling these women they need to shut the **** up and play ball "or else".
It performs fairly well but what's the deal with the companion getting lost? You can town portal as a work around but for a game about to release in a few weeks this happens way too often.

I am not sure I recognise that characterisation of a unions, but I do get the idea (perhaps wrongly) from the constant repetition of the unionisation aspect to the story that the gaming media thinks unionisation will wave a magic wand at the problems at Activision and solve everything, that to my mind is being rather naïve.
I am a big fan of D2 and I have to say I totally love this version thereof. I could not resist and am now "twinking" a barbarian doing tomb runs.
Its actually kind of fun exping and gearing this twink like character even if I am to lose it after the beta. So far, I am at level 25, got unique weapon for my defensive mercenary and 2 arctic set pieces on barb.
Blizz has done a great job with this as far as I am concerned. Cant wait for release.
I think they have hit that magical zone where the game looks and plays exactly how you remember it in your fondest memory, not how it actually was. It is Diablo 2, it is phenomenal, and yes, dated as well.

Yes, it is really. While it may appear to be just a better looking version of the old game it isn't underneath. They didn't take the exact same code and simply alter the graphics. They also added features not present in the original.
Play the old one then. It's not like anyone is stopping you. In the process you'll notice some differences between the two right from the start, just as I did when I reinstalled and played the original after playing the new one today.

I do, and it's not as though such is unheard of. Unions are not immune to corruption and some have a great deal of power and influence. They can be problematic for their members as well as helpful.
As for Activision, unions would come with their typical benefits and costs. Workers would likely benefit in compensation negotiations but merit and job security would probably be somewhat disconnected due to seniority-based employment protection.

I was a union member (Ironworkers) for many years as an apprentice all the way up to job steward and foreman. Unions have their place, specifically in dangerous jobs where the site safety changes literally every second. I can say without a doubt that unlike HR, the union is there to protect the workers, not the management.
That isn't to say that unions don't have their problems and drawbacks.
It's difficult to say how a union would have effected this situation since it is in an office environment and there is a lot of overlap between union representation and human recourses. It's also difficult to say how this would have effected the gaming career path as a whole. I can say it's easier to bring grievances to a union rep than it is to HR.
On that note, as a LONG time player of Diablo II, I love everything about D2R. I love the small (some optional) changes they've made and I love what they left alone most of the way the game plays. I do wish they took the Path of Diablo lead and increased bag space and/or added room for charms. Stacking runes and potions would also be nice.
I may catch hell for this but I'm also not opposed to an auto loot distribution option that can be toggled on and off with the traditional FFA loot system, as long as it doesn't effect drop rates.
